- DirectorJoe JohnstonStarsJake GyllenhaalChris CooperLaura DernThe true story of Homer Hickam, a coal miner's son who was inspired by the first Sputnik launch to take up rocketry against his father's wishes. No movie can beat this as my top choice! I like that this movie has heart-warming feeling and it's about accomplishing your dreams. Along with every scene being a grabber. The ending is a very satisfying one that makes me want to watch it over again.
- DirectorFrank DarabontStarsTim RobbinsMorgan FreemanBob GuntonA banker convicted of uxoricide forms a friendship over a quarter century with a hardened convict, while maintaining his innocence and trying to remain hopeful through simple compassion.I do agree that this is one of the greatest films ever made. This is not a psychological movie, but watching the actors, you can tell almost everyone is reaching a certain point upon trapped in a crooked prison system. It is a very touching movie, I definitely recommend this to watch in your lifetime!
- DirectorGore VerbinskiStarsJohnny DeppArmie HammerWilliam FichtnerNative American warrior Tonto recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid, a man of the law, into a legend of justice.I don't know why most didn't like this film. To me, this is suppose to give the character a new perspective and plot to the original one. The silliness, action, and plot were a good combo.
- DirectorBrad SilberlingStarsJim CarreyJude LawMeryl StreepWhen a massive fire kills their parents, three children are delivered to the custody of cousin and stage actor Count Olaf, who is secretly plotting to steal their parents' vast fortune.I remember how excited I was to watch this when I first heard of the movie. As a fan of the books, I find this movie sticks quite true to the plot. The image, the setting, and style brought it to its grim. I especially love the hurricane scene.
- DirectorJames B. ClarkStarsCelia MiliusLarry DomasinAnn DanielThe story of a Native American girl, abandoned on a tiny island, who is protected by a wild dog.If anyone has earn of the real story of Karana, then u would know why I love this film. Sure this may seem a bit cheesy, and not much action but it's one of those family movies that really touch on hard times. A film about loneliness, forgiveness, and survival, sure is one of the best for all ages.
- DirectorAnthony RussoJoe RussoStarsChris EvansSamuel L. JacksonScarlett JohanssonAs Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world, he teams up with a fellow Avenger and S.H.I.E.L.D agent, Black Widow, to battle a new threat from history: an assassin known as the Winter Soldier.I had my doubts at first, but this was spectacular. I'm pleased that not too much focus was on the fights, but as a mind-solving too. Probably one of the best films Marvel had in a while.
- DirectorBaz LuhrmannStarsLeonardo DiCaprioCarey MulliganJoel EdgertonA writer and wall street trader, Nick Carraway, finds himself drawn to the past and lifestyle of his mysterious millionaire neighbor, Jay Gatsby, amid the riotous parties of the Jazz Age.Upon watching this from the start, I became hooked. Unlike the 70s one, this brought all the life and emotions to the eyes. Although I wish some parts were not shortened for the effects, it was a tragedy to continue without feeling anger or sadness.
- DirectorPeter WebberStarsScarlett JohanssonColin FirthTom WilkinsonA young peasant maid working in the house of painter Johannes Vermeer becomes his talented assistant and the model for one of his most famous works. The colors and style the film took from the book is what made it interesting. Especially since much of Vermeer is left a mystery, this can give an almost-accurate portrayal of his painting. Also, this didn't have much of explicit scenes that Hollywood would always try to add.
- DirectorJeremiah S. ChechikStarsChevy ChaseBeverly D'AngeloJuliette LewisThe Griswold family's plans for a big family Christmas predictably turn into a big disaster.Instant classic here! The crazy family having a tree on fire, squirrel invasion, in-laws, FBI attack, and ultimate blackout! How much crazier can you get with the Griswolds.
- DirectorBlair HayesStarsJake GyllenhaalSwoosie KurtzMarley SheltonBubble Boy's been in a bubble all his life due to no immune system. A cute blonde girl befriends BB. Her boyfriend proposes and BB decides to travel across USA to Niagara Falls to stop the wedding.Call me crazy for bad comedy, but I found this to be entertaining! A naive grown-up goes on a trip across the country to meet across some of the strangest people known to man.
- DirectorMasaaki TezukaKoji HashimotoTakao OkawaraStarsNoboru KanekoMiho YoshiokaMickey KogaMothra and her fairies return to Japan to warn mankind that they must return Kiryu to the sea, for the dead must not be disturbed. However Godzilla has survived to menace Japan leaving Kiryu as the nation's only defense. This triple-threat movie is where it's probably the most polished and peak of the film's special effect. The scores, costumes, and design are all perfect fitting together. My most favorite of the franchise!
- DirectorGary TrousdaleKirk WiseStarsDemi MooreJason AlexanderMary Kay BergmanA deformed bell-ringer must assert his independence from a vicious government minister in order to help his friend, a gypsy dancer.Obviously one of the best Disney movies ever made. Sure it's toned down from the adult situations, but still keeping the darkness of the story. It's one of the films to have killings, betrayal, damnation, and other adult-oriented topics for child-viewing. Always remain in my collection.
- DirectorJohn Kent HarrisonStarsKatie StuartDavid DorfmanGregory SmithA young girl and her genius kid brother are aided by three curious witches in their search for their missing scientist father, captive of an omnipotent otherworldly villain simply called 'It' whose evil is slowly infecting the universe. Not the best adaption of the book, but I disagree. It kept the morals, plot, and characters near the similarity to the originals. The special effects were not cheaply done and the acting is quite moderate. I loved this for its own uniqueness to the story.
- DirectorIshirô HondaStarsAkira TakaradaYuriko HoshiHiroshi KoizumiWhen opportunistic tycoons refuse to return Mothra's egg to Infant Island, its people must decide if they are willing to answer Japan's own pleas for help when Godzilla arises near Nagoya.Absolutely the best of the Showa era, and the first movie I ever watched of Godzilla!
- DirectorHenry SelickStarsDakota FanningTeri HatcherJohn HodgmanWandering her rambling old house in her boring new town, an 11-year-old Coraline discovers a hidden door to a strangely idealized version of her life. In order to stay in the fantasy, she must make a frighteningly real sacrifice.Coraline has a sense where younger-oriented movies still have a nick to be the best. Filled with ghosts, dimensions, and a creepy shapeshifter! One of the few claymation that's promising
- DirectorRoland EmmerichStarsDennis QuaidJake GyllenhaalEmmy RossumJack Hall, paleoclimatologist, must make a daring trek from Washington, D.C. to New York City to reach his son, trapped in the cross-hairs of a sudden international storm which plunges the planet into a new Ice Age.I liked this because of the supposed "end of life" events that occur in this movie. Plus, it shows the effect of global warming, though not accurately, I couldn't help but watch how these people survive disasters that surely would've killed them within days. The fight for survival and trust is another factor.
- StarsBen KingsleyHannah Taylor GordonLili TaylorThe life of Anne Frank and her family from 1939 to 1945: pre-war fears, invasion of Netherlands by German troops, hiding in Amsterdam, deportation to the camps, return of Anne's father.Probably the best out of all films about her, the whole thing almost made me cry to watch. You not only see her life in the attic but as a kid in war and in the death camps. Truly it's a masterpiece not to be missed.
- DirectorPhillip BorsosStarsJesse BradfordMimi RogersBruce DavisonAngus McCormick adopts a stray dog and names him Yellow. Several days later, while traveling along the coast of British Columbia with his father, John, he and Yellow become stranded when turbulent waters capsize their boat. John and his wife, Katherine, relentlessly badger rescue teams. Angus, schooled by John in wilderness survival skills, and assisted by intelligent Yellow, tries to attract rescuers.I almost forgot about this one. This was one of the better dog films I've seen. Survival of two friends alone in an unknown place. It's wasn't all that bad to say.
- DirectorRyûhei KitamuraKoji HashimotoShûsuke KanekoStarsMasahiro MatsuokaRei KikukawaDon FryeGodzilla's fiftieth Anniversary project, in which Godzilla travels around the world to fight his old foes and his allies plus a new, mysterious monster named Monster X.The final installment of the Toho production, filled in all full action which is quite enjoyable!
- DirectorDavid SilvermanStarsDan CastellanetaJulie KavnerNancy CartwrightAfter Homer pollutes the town's water supply, Springfield is encased in a gigantic dome by the EPA and the Simpsons are declared fugitives. When you watch the Simpsons, you know something stupid or crazy happens to everyone of Springfield. Here, the whole plot started with a pig and squirrel. Especially worth seeing the twon going crazy on them and acting like an ant farm.
- DirectorBrett RatnerStarsEddie MurphyBen StillerCasey AffleckWhen a group of hard-working guys find out they've fallen victim to their wealthy employer's Ponzi scheme, they conspire to rob his high-rise residence.Just so funny to see Ben Stiller, Eddie Murphy, Matthew Broderick, and Alan Alda into a crazy crime scheme.
- DirectorJohn HowleyStarsEdward AsnerIrene CaraCarol ChanningSnow White and her new friends must rescue the Prince when he is captured by the Wicked Queen's vengeful brother.Okay this is not Disney, I don't mind. While it's not perfect by all means, but it is more action-driven than Disney's. I also do love the darker nature in the second half of the film, dark-theme kids movie are my type. Don't expect too much when watching, but don't compare it to Disney either, it's own cult classic.
- StarsPaul TelferElizabeth PerkinsSean AstinA chronicle of the life of the Greek hero who after killing his three sons must perform five labors to repent.I heard this movie's plot was sticking a bit closer to the real mythology with some twists. While the effects may look cheap, it is refreshing to see a new story of Hercules brought to the public. I also thought Paul Telfer was perfect for the role of Hercules.
- DirectorHatsuki TsujiStarsDan GreenEric StuartAmy BirnbaumUnderneath the sands of Egypt, Anubis, an ancient evil spirit, has awakened. It's up to Yugi, who defeated Anubis centuries ago, to use his skill and determination to rid the world of evil once again. The first movie I ever saw of this series, and it was good. Real card depictions, new rare cards, and a rather unexpected final battle in the ending.
