10 Questions We Want Answered in 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi'2 of 10
What is Rey's last name?
Rey's (Daisy Ridley) lineage, shrouded in mystery in The Force Awakens, is the biggest reveal Star Wars fans are looking forward to in The Last Jedi. Explained director Rian Johnson, "It's something that's absolutely going to be addressed in the movie. It's tough because this is another element of the secrecy of it all. The other part of it is there's lots of surprises in this movie, and there's lots of twists and turns."
Conventional wisdom suggests that Rey is related to Luke: Her life on Jakku mirrors that of Luke's on Tatooine; when Kylo Ren interrogates her, she's discovered to have dreamt of Ahch-To, the island where Luke is hiding; and of course, Luke's lightsaber calls to her in the basement of Maz Kanata's castle.
But there are, of course, competing theories: Rey could be a Kenobi -- which might explain her British accent, her clothing, and why Obi-Wan's voice surfaces in Rey's vision. Another, probably more unlikely, scenario is that Rey is Leia's daughter and therefore Kylo (Ben's) sibling, creating some symmetry between Luke and Leia. But then again, Leia and Han probably would have mentioned something about this. And for canon diehards, Rey could possibly be related to characters from the "Star Wars Rebels" universe, namely Kanan.
Of course, given Rian Johnson's comments, Rey's parentage could turn out to be something different altogether. Perhaps she's actually not related to anyone we know at the moment. Or maybe it's been right in front of us the whole time.
