10 Questions We Want Answered in 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi'9 of 10
What can we expect from General Leia Organa?
Even before Carrie Fisher's shocking passing this past winter, there was much speculation about what role Leia would play in this second installment of the trilogy. Last we saw her in The Force Awakens, Leia had caught up with Han Solo, after a clear period of separation between the two, and had shared a conspicuously mysterious embrace with Rey upon her return from Starkiller Base. These events, it seemed at the time, were perfect precursors to the on-screen meeting yet to come: a family reunion of twins Leia and Luke.
Plenty of reports across the internet suggest that this story element is in the plans, but Fisher's death may have impacted how quickly this meeting happens in the larger story arc. Nevertheless, we're excited to see just exactly how the Luke-Leia reunion plays out -- whether they meet in person or communicate through the Force, as they did in The Empire Strikes Back.
As it's been confirmed that Fisher will, in fact, not appear in Episode IX, expect to see plenty of Leia in this upcoming movie, in many scenes of consequence. Said Lucasfilm chief Kathleen Kennedy at the recent Star Wars Celebration in Orlando: "We will see a lot of Carrie in VIII. Carrie is remarkable in the movie. What [director] Rian [Johnson] wrote and the performance she ends up giving, is an amazing tribute to her talent."
