10 Questions We Want Answered in 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi'6 of 10
Why has Luke given up on the Jedi and how will he react to what's happened?
The Force Awakens taught us a few things about the fate of the Jedi: Luke Skywalker had tried to create a new generation of Jedi and restore the Jedi Order, and Kylo Ren was pivotal in their destruction. Afterward, Luke went into exile, blaming himself for their demise. But why now does he believe the Jedi must end?
Perhaps the risk of developing Jedi who may succumb to the draw of the Dark Side of the Force is just too great. He’s already lived through the consequences of that possibility (carried out by one so close to him). So, we understand why he would still be incredibly wary.
We assume with his Force ability that Luke is aware of the state of events, the death of Han Solo, and where the First Order and the Resistance stand. But what, if any, of his awareness will he reveal to Rey? Will it solidify his stance on why he has taken himself off the board? Or will it compel him to finally end his exile? It could go either way, but we’re hoping that the fact that he does train Rey in some capacity means he’s leaning toward an eventual return.
