- DirectorJohn WatersStarsJohnny DeppRicki LakeAmy LocaneIn 1950s Baltimore, a bad boy with a heart of gold wins the love of a good girl, whose boyfriend sets out for revenge. There's nothing the matter with my face. I got character!
I wanted to see this movie because of Johnny Depp, but when I realized it was made by the author of the unwatchable "Pink Flamingos" I almost gave up. Fortunately, these two movies have nothing else in common. "Cry-Baby" is comedy musical that parodies movies about juvenile delinquency and teens in the fifties, like "Grease" or "Rebel Without a Cause". It has an entertaining story, great music, and choreography, and well-developed characters, played by charismatic actors, among which are Johnny Depp, Iggy Pop, Tracy Lords, and Willem Dafoe. A film that will never get old.
10/10 - DirectorTim BurtonStarsJohnny DeppWinona RyderDianne WiestThe solitary life of an artificial man - who was incompletely constructed and has scissors for hands - is upended when he is taken in by a suburban family.Gentle lovechild of Frankenstein's monster and Freddy Krueger
"Edward Scissorhands" is a romantic drama about a lonely young man with scissors instead of fingers, who leaves the isolation of the Gothic castle in which he spent his whole life and comes into town among people. The story of isolation, socialization, human hypocrisy, stupidity and fear of everything that is different, but also about sincere friendship, love, and sacrifice. Edward is obviously inspired by Frankenstein's monster, with which he has a lot in common, although this is not a horror, but a warm and sad fairytale, and therefore Edward is also much milder "monster". Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder have excellent chemistry, which is understandable considering they were a couple during the shooting of this movie. Besides their love, on the set of this movie the friendship between Depp and Burton was born, and Depp has become a frequent occurrence in Barton's films. Burton rotates the same handful of actors through all his movies, but why would he change a winning combination. Barton's signature is obvious in both the story and the visuals - the film is magical, surreal and a feast for eyes. If you're even remotely sympathetic to Barton's style, "Edward Scissorhands" will keep your attention from the beginning to the end and leave you overwhelmed with emotions.
8/10 - DirectorJeremiah S. ChechikStarsJohnny DeppMary Stuart MastersonAidan QuinnA mentally ill young woman finds her love in an eccentric man who models himself after Buster Keaton.Beautiful story
Mary Stuart Masterson plays a mentally ill girl who lives with her brother. His life is reduced to work and taking care of the ill sister, without any privacy or dedication to himself and his own life and future. And then in their lives enter Johnny Depp in the role of a weird semi-literate boy, a fan of Chaplin and Keaton, and Oscar-winning Julianne Moore in the role of a local waitress. Nothing pretentious, pretty much predictable, but sincere, strong, romantic and most of all fun.

"It's sort of embarrassing to admit it took me ten years to see this film. I'm not really a big fan of Tim Burton, and while I never had anything against him, I've only recently started to enjoy Johnny Depp's work. Given the subject matter, this just wasn't a movie I was interested in for a long time. But sometimes good things really are worth the wait.
Ed Wood, of course, chronicles the Hollywood career of its eponymous subject, truly one screwed up individual; a cross-dresser with a fetish for angora, Wood churned out one horrifically bad film after another, culminating with Plan Nine From Outer Space, before descending into crappy porn films toward the end of his life. It isn't necessarily a happy story, and Burton wisely only tells a small sliver of it, from Ed's first movie, Glen or Glenda, through the premiere of Plan Nine.
But the love that Burton has for Wood and his movies shines through in every frame. Though I find Burton needlessly artsy as a director, here that tendency serves him frightfully well, as he manages to do the near-impossible; make a film about someone that plays like one of their films (the abysmal Dragon is a shining example of how NOT to do this). Shot entirely in black and white, we see all of Wood's weirdoes not as they were, but rather as Ed probably saw them, through the bizarre filter he must have viewed life with.
Depp is simply brilliant here, probably even better than he was in Pirates of the Caribbean. He captures Wood's enthusiasm and slanted viewpoint, but he does so in a loving, positive way. Wood accepts, as we must, that he was a screwed-up hack, but it never drags him down; in fact, Depp has him reveling in it, and it is that very passion that buoys up the movie. It doesn't hurt that nearly everyone else is very strong too, from Jeffrey Jones' crank 'psychic' Criswell to Bill Murray's Bunny Breckenridge, who often talks about having a sex change but never goes through with it. George 'The Animal' Steele captures Tor Johnson perfectly, and even Lisa Marie is excellent as Vampira. But the true great performance of the film, outshining even Depp, is Martin Landau as Bela Lugosi. He won the Oscar for this, and deservedly so; he presents Lugosi at the end of his life, a washed-up has been, a shell of a man who was once a great star but is now no more than an addict. Landau virtually disappears in the role, and all you get is Lugosi, every tragic inch of him. Again, we see him not only as he was, but how Wood and even Burton see him, and the effect is masterful. One speech in particular, where Lugosi repeats a speech that Wood wrote for him about once being the master of the world but now on the verge of coming back is particularly haunting, and Landau is simply riveting.
Ed Wood is a rare beast – it's a Tim Burton film that doesn't go overboard, it's a movie about Hollywood (sort of) that isn't self-indulgent, it's a nostalgia trip that manages not to be sappy but is still very warm and caring, and overall it's just a strikingly well-done film. I was impressed on many levels, most particularly with Depp and Landau, but really with the whole movie, that such a truly screwed-up human being could be shown in such a positive, indeed, loving way. Ed Wood is nothing less than a tribute to its subject, and in that, as in many other ways, it succeeds marvelously. If somehow you've missed this film, as I had until recently, you owe it to yourself to see it. It's simply a wonderful piece of film-making that should not be missed." - oshram - DirectorJeremy LevenStarsJohnny DeppMarlon BrandoFaye DunawayA psychiatrist must cure a young patient who presents himself as Don Juan, the world's greatest lover. Why not...
If I do not count when parents was taking me as a child, this film is my first going to the movies, my first encounter with Johnny Depp and forever one of my favorites. The main character is based on Lord Byron's Don Juan, the movie is produced by Francis Ford Coppola, Michael Kamen was in charge of music, the main track is one of the most beautiful love songs I've ever heard, and when you add to it that the main roles are interpreted by geniuses, such as Johnny Depp, Faye Dunaway and, one of the greatest actors of all time, Marlon Brando, you get the ultimate love movie. In my opinion, the essence of this film, and also the essence of life itself, is contained in one of the last sentences: "Why not..."
9/10
The most beautiful quotes:- There are only four questions of value in life, Don Octavio. What is sacred? Of what is the spirit made? What is worth living for, and what is worth dying for? The answer to each is the same: only love.
- By seeing beyond what is visible to the eye. Now there are those, of course, who do not share my perceptions, it's true. When I say that all my woman are dazzling beauties, they object. The nose of this one is too large; the hips of another, they are too wide; perhaps the breasts of a third, they are too small. But I see these women for how they truly are... glorious, radiant, spectacular, and perfect, because, I am not limited by my eyesight. Women react to me the way that they do, Don Octavio, because they sense that I search out the beauty that dwells within until it overwhelms everything else. And then they cannot avoid their desire, to release that beauty and envelope me in it.
- Have you never met a woman who inspires you to love? Until your every sense is filled with her? You inhale her. You taste her. You see your unborn children in her eyes and know that your heart has at last found a home. Your life begins with her, and without her it must surely end.
- You want Don Juan DeMarco, the world's greatest lover, to talk to you? What do you know of great love? Have you ever loved a woman until milk leaked from her as though she had just given birth to love itself, and now must feed it or burst? Have you ever tasted a woman until she believed that she could be satisfied only by consuming the tongue that had devoured her? Have you ever loved a woman so completely that the sound of your voice in her ear could cause her body to shudder and explode with such intense pleasure that only weeping could bring her full release?
- Every true lover knows that the moment of greatest satisfaction comes when ecstasy is long over and he beholds before him the flower which has blossomed beneath his touch.
- Every woman is a mystery to be solved.
- Doña Ana: Very well, my love. I will accept that I'm not the first if you will tell me, with the same... honesty, how many others there have been. Don Juan: [voice-over: This would have been a very good time for me to lie. But truth is a terrible habit.] Including you... there have been... exactly... one... thousand, five hundred and two.
- Sadly, I must report that the last patient I ever treated, the great lover Don Juan DeMarco, suffered from a romanticism which was completely incurable, and even worse, highly contagious.
- DirectorJohn BadhamStarsJohnny DeppChristopher WalkenCourtney ChaseAn unimpressive, everyday man is forced into a situation where he is told to kill a politician to save his kidnapped daughter.Since there are Depp and Walken in leading roles I must say that I expected more from this movie. But it's ok. Slightly above mediocre.
7/10 - DirectorJim JarmuschStarsJohnny DeppGary FarmerCrispin GloverOn the run after murdering a man, accountant William Blake encounters a strange Native American man named Nobody who prepares him for his journey into the spiritual world.Hypnotizing dream
Fantastic choice of actors, led by Johnny Depp, perfectly portraying a man who slowly crosses to the other side and blends with the nature on his last journey, and Gary Farmer, who brings some colour into this black and white masterpiece. Jarmusch overcame himself in this movie. Beautiful black and white cadres followed by Neil Young's hypnotizing guitar make us slip into a trance and drag us in another world, where we peacefully flow towards the end. The story is deep and sad, violent and romantic, at the same time full of death and full of life. The best performances of both Jarmusch and Young mixed together in one of the best movies of all time. It simply has no flaws at all.
10/10 - DirectorJohnny DeppStarsJohnny DeppMarlon BrandoMarshall BellA down-on-his-luck American Indian recently released from jail is offered the chance to "star" as the victim of a snuff film, the resulting pay of which could greatly help his poverty stricken family.Johnny Depp's Masterpiece
IMDb rating for this movie is shameful and tells more about the superficial taste of today's audience than the quality of the movie itself. This is one of the most beautiful and at the same time most dreadful movies I ever saw. The screenplay, directing and lead actor - Johnny Depp, music - Iggy Pop, and the fact that Marlon Brando agreed to participate says enough. The story itself could be told in just a few sentences, so do not expect much of action. The movie is slow, rough and crushing and it is more about evoking a psychological atmosphere than telling a story. The cast is great, music too, and the way Depp pulled off the role and directing, in my opinion, makes this movie his lifetime achievement.
10/10 - DirectorTerry GilliamStarsJohnny DeppBenicio Del ToroTobey MaguireAn oddball journalist and his psychopathic lawyer travel to Las Vegas for a series of psychedelic escapades.Too weird to live, and too rare to die
I tried to watch this movie several times since it was released and I had to give up on it every time till now. It took me almost 20 years to force myself to see it trough. I love both Depp and Benicio, and I saw almost every movie each of them made, but this one I simply hate. This is one of the most boring pieces of crap I have ever seen in my life. If there was anyone else in leading roles but these two I would rate it 0/10, but because of these two geniuses I have to rate it

In the beginning, it reminded me of "The Devil's Advocate", then "Rosemary's Baby" and Alien". It's a shame that mixing those cult movies resulted in unpresentable and mediocre SF drama. Even Johnny Depp could not save this failure.

This is a story about a man who opened the door to America for Pablo Escobar. Rise and fall of the first American king of cocaine. Johnny Depp nailed it as usual. Penélope Cruz is ugly as usual and she won the award for the worst Spanish actress. Deserved.

Of the 11 mutilated victims, police with certainty attributed 5 to the same perpetrator, who became known as "Leather Apron" and achieved worldwide fame under the name Jack the Ripper. The police had over 300 suspects, but in the end they could not prove anything. Theories were arriving from all sides for decades, and some new ones appear even today. A story about Sir J.M. Barry and creation of Peter Pan. Although Depp was nominated for Academy Award, in my opinion, this is one of his weakest performances. In female leading role is Kate Winslet whom I can not stand. But in spite of that, this is one of the most beautiful and emotional stories I ever saw and it blows me away every time.

17 August 2016
This is the story of John Wilmot, the Earl of Rochester, playwright and poet of the 17th century, the man who led a bohemian life to the extreme and drove himself to an early grave at 33. This role brought Johnny Depp award for the most offensive male role (Women Film Critics Circle Awards), and there are also fantastic John Malkovich, funny Richard Coyle, and beautiful Rosamund Pike. Sex, drugs and rock and roll in the 17th-century style.

Terribly underrated movie. Of course, it is not on top of world cinematography, but in own genre, it's a true masterpiece. In my opinion, one of Barton's finest achievements. Fairy-tale for children and all of us who still feel that way.
8/10 - DirectorTim BurtonMike JohnsonStarsJohnny DeppHelena Bonham CarterEmily WatsonWhen a shy groom practices his wedding vows in the inadvertent presence of a deceased young woman, she rises from the grave assuming he has married her. What a story it is. A tragic tale of romance, passion, and murder most foul.

Corpse wakes up, pronounces that fateful "I do" and takes Victor to the underworld. He is trying to escape and get back to the girl he loves. One of Barton's best movies. Plot, emotion, acting, music... beautiful.
9/10 - DirectorGore VerbinskiStarsJohnny DeppOrlando BloomKeira KnightleyJack Sparrow races to recover the heart of Davy Jones to avoid enslaving his soul to Jones' service, as other friends and foes seek the heart for their own agenda as well.Good plot, great acting and directing, and fantastic visual effects. It lacks some of the "soul" first one had, but it's still a sequel and it's bound to repeat itself and lose some soul on lack of originality. But whatever it loses on originality, it is more than covered by quality in every aspect.
When I was watching the first one, unfortunately, I did not pay attention to music. This time music hypnotized me. It is so good that I even watched complete ending credits not being able to interrupt music that follows it. The movie sounds fantastic.
And of course, Johnny Depp, the only man who could possibly pull off Jack Sparrow, one of the best actors of our time.

- You're mad. - Thank goodness. If I wasn't this would probably never work.
- Do you think he plans it all out or just makes it up as he goes along ?!
For me, this one was the best so far. A bit too long for my taste, but so are the previous two so I can't complain about that. Well designed adventure, with bit less characterization than before, but those are the same characters we already got to know well, so it should not bother anyone. Acting is good, story shifts between drama, fast action, and emotional parts in tempo that prevents you to get bored during three hours of this awesome adventure. I could even go as far as to compare it to the "Lord of the Rings" movie. It's not that good, but in its genre, for me, it holds honorable second place right after "The Return of the King".
My favorite parts... The opening scene is one of the best I ever saw. I had goosebumps when they started to sing. And during the reception in Singapore, when Keira disarms herself, her body talk and facial expressions irresistibly remind of Jack Sparrow. The man who rips off his toe, ocean mirroring night sky, and on top of everything, the bunch of Jacks on stranded Pearl.
10/10 - DirectorMichael MannStarsChristian BaleJohnny DeppChristian StolteThe Feds try to take down notorious American gangsters John Dillinger, Baby Face Nelson, and Pretty Boy Floyd during a booming crime wave in the 1930s.Soulless
Chicago, thirties of the last century. John Dillinger and the crew rob banks and with high-speed cars flee across state borders, escaping the police. The FBI is in its infancy and Hoover wants to build a reputation by catching Dillinger, a state enemy number one. The story is realistic, almost like a documentary. Action scenes are well shot and from a technical standpoint film has no flaws. But, although it definitely isn't boring, it failed to pull me in. I was not tied to the characters, I wasn't rooting for either side, nor did I care about their fates. Johnny Depp, Christian Bale, Marion Cotillard, Jason Clarke, Stephen Graham, and many other big names guarantee that trouble certainly doesn't lie in acting, but screenplay didn't leave room for characterization. Characters are one-dimensional. The criminal is just a criminal, the cop is just a cop, there's no background stories, no diverting from the main course of the movie, no inner struggles, no emotions or depth. Just black and white and straight forward, like TV news. Though, here and there they inserted a couple of emotional moments, I guess in an attempt to breathe some soul into the movie, but they only achieved needless pathetic that simply doesn't fit with the rest of it. Technically excellent film, but not essentially powerful.
7/10 - DirectorRob MarshallStarsJohnny DeppPenélope CruzIan McShaneJack Sparrow and Barbossa embark on a quest to find the elusive fountain of youth, only to discover that Blackbeard and his daughter are after it too.Weakest link, but still great
The fourth movie in the Pirates franchise is a bit below the level of its prequels, but that does not mean it's bad, it's just a bit less great. The story is linear this time, there are less plot and twists than before, and Penelope does not fit into this world so good, in my opinion. But Jack Sparrow is Jack Sparrow, the movie is visually beautiful and followed by music that crawls under my skin deeper and deeper with every sequel, becoming closer to be my favorite soundtrack ever. I can't wait for the 5th that is announced for 2017.
7,5/10 - DirectorGore VerbinskiStarsJohnny DeppArmie HammerWilliam FichtnerNative American warrior Tonto recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid, a man of the law, into a legend of justice.Western "Pirates of the Caribbean"
This is one of those movies that critics destroyed without a good reason. I read bad reviews and I cross myself with left, right and my feet. It got some bad reviews from critics so a bunch of smart-asses decided to lubricate it with their own spit. To be clear, I do not have respect for the majority of professional critics. I especially don't pay attention to negative reviews. On the contrary, they often make me want to see the movie even more. If I skipped everything critics tried to destroy I would miss a bunch of excellent movies.
They say it's not accurate. Accurate to what?! It is not a historical movie and it's not a remake. The old one was a Western classic and this one is an adventure/comedy. They criticize the quality of the screenplay and acting. Sure, no one could get an Oscar for it, but it was not the intention of this movie. This is Disney adventure with the goal to entertain, not to be Nobel prize level literature or Oscar contestant. But what shocked me the most was an argument that appeared in several negative reviews. They said this movie is essentially a Western version of "Pirates of the Caribbean" as if it were a bad thing!!! For God's sake, in what universe this could be shortcoming?! If you did not like "Pirates" why the hell did you even try to watch this? Being a Western version of "Pirates" is probably the main reason I wanted to see this and it is definitely the main reason I loved it.
I had many things to say about this movie, but, after I discovered this phrase, everything else I could possibly say becomes redundant. Those five words are absolutely perfect to describe this movie completely:
Western "Pirates of the Caribbean" equals must watch!!!
8,5/10 - DirectorMegan GriffithsStarsToni ColletteThomas Haden ChurchNina AriandaA rock journalist is assigned to track down her ex-boyfriend.Lovely
This movie was on my watch-list only because Johnny Depp was in it. It turned out that his character, although the whole story rotates about him, shows up for just a few minutes, but instead I was pleasantly surprised with the excellent cast. I never saw Toni Collette before, but she was awesome carrying her role and basically the whole movie. And if I knew that Ryan Eggold is one of the main actors this movie would be on my watch-list even if there was no Johnny Depp.
This is slow and easy emotional drama about rock reporter whose career withers away and who gets the assignment to write an article about the popular musician who went missing decade ago, leaving behind his career and her, his long-term girlfriend. While it was generally accepted that he committed suicide, his body was never found and she has several reasons to believe he is still somewhere out there. Accompanied by another ex-boyfriend, who wants to shot a documentary about the whole thing, she begins the quest to find him. While searching for answers for her article, in the process she explores her own past, her emotions and meaning of own life. At the end she finds not exactly what she was searching for, but what she needed to take back control over her own life and future. This is not a cinematographic masterpiece, but it is a warm human story in which we can all find parts of ourselves, cause every one of us, at least once in our lives, had some part of our past dragged along for too long.

I love Kevin Smith and I saw all of his movies, those he wrote, directed or acted in. Johnny Depp is possibly my favorite actor. I saw all of his too; even those in which he had just cameo appearances. A movie with Johnny in it, written and directed by Kevin Smith, for me is definite must watch. I thought I knew exactly what to expect from those two, but I was so wrong. This has no similarity with anything any of them ever did. IMDb says comedy, drama, horror, and although it has elements of each, I can not agree with that classification. True, there's humor, but if you are in for a comedy, you're in for an extremely unpleasant surprise. Although it has elements of eighties B horror, this movie is not scary. It won't frighten you or keep you tense, but most of it is both psychologically and visually unpleasant. And whether you will characterize it as a drama, I think it depends on your subjective experience. It's surreal, awkward, nasty and sick. Whether you like it or not, it's certain you won't easily forget it.

Honestly, I decided to see this movie only because of Johnny Depp and what I got is ... Johnny Depp and close to nothing else. The movie has terrible reviews but, because of my experience with Depp's movies, I refused to believe. Anyway, I most often love movies that are widely bashed on the internet. This time, unfortunately, that was not a case. The film is based on the true story of the famous Boston mobster who spent decades at the FBI's Most Wanted List. Classic cliché crime drama about the mafia, the likes of which we've seen many times in the past, and which does not bring anything new to this outworn genre. Not a trace of originality. Observed individually, this movie is pretty much nicely done, but in the context of the genre, it is shallow and dull. Acting is good and it's practically everything that this movie has to offer.
6/10 - DirectorTim BurtonStarsMia WasikowskaJohnny DeppHelena Bonham CarterNineteen-year-old Alice returns to the magical world from her childhood adventure, where she reunites with her old friends and learns of her true destiny: to end the Red Queen's reign of terror.Disappointment
"Alice in Wonderland" by Lewis Carroll, directed by Tim Burton (whom I love), starring celebrities like Johnny Depp (whom I adore), Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway, Crispin Glover, Stephen Fry, Alan Rickman and legendary Christopher Lee, with technical capabilities of year 2010 and a $ 200 million budget ... You can not blame me for having high expectations. And when you see this wonder of wasted potential you won't blame me for being disappointed either.
The film is visually impressive and I really have no complaints, but everything else is lousy. Tim Burton didn't really fail, but we all know that he can do it much much better. Mad Hatter is one of Depp's weakest roles, Mia Wasikowska is sweet and she played Alice quite decent, and only Helena Bonham Carter really made an impression on me. The story is cute but lousy, it's not boring, but it doesn't engage you as much as such adventure should. You will not have the urge to turn off the movie, but you will not be upset if you need to leave it in half. However, I'm not sure how much is that the fault of unimaginative screenwriter and director (it certainly isn't Carroll's fault), and how much is this actually result of this being Disney movie primarily intended for children, which imposes many limitations. But the fact that the film is intended for children is just an explanation, and not an excuse for a naive, shallow and too simple story. A quality movie for children should be multilayered, on the first glance simple enough to entertain children, but with a certain depth that will intrigue adults. This movie doesn't have that. If you are out of elementary school you're too old for this.

If you glue this movie directly to the end of the previous one from 2010, you probably wouldn't even notice that it's two films. So, everything I wrote about "Alice in Wonderland" stands for this one too. However, this one is perhaps slightly more entertaining.

While the first "A Nightmare on Elm Street" was one of the best horror films of all time, sequels were increasingly injecting elements of comedy, until the last, which can hardly be classified into the horror genre. This movie fills the holes in the story and brings enough explanations to decently round and close the franchise. If viewed as a serious horror (though I really do not see why would anyone in their right mind even consider that), this movie is a complete failure, but if viewed as an over-the-top horror-comedy, which I honestly believe the authors intended, the film is awesome. This is convincingly the most imaginative, audio-visually impressive and the most entertaining part of the "Elm Street" franchise. I was hypnotized.

When I first watched this masterpiece of the genre, I was not at all a fan of horror. What's more, I did not watch horror at all, and I decided to see this film solely because of Johnny Depp. I saw all of his films and Johnny's film debut was the only one left. I was avoiding it for a long time because it was a horror, but in the end, I could not resist. When I finally saw it, I had to see the second one, then the third... and I was hooked. Love was born to the horrors of the eighties, and then to the genre in general.
Many mistakenly believe that the greatest human fear is the fear of death. The fear of death is just one aspect of the really greatest human fear - fear of the unknown. Dreams are still a mystery to us. We do not understand them and we have no control over them, so the horror based on dreams is a very effective idea. Horrors based on impossible premises, no matter how well designed, have no effect on me. But when there is even a trace of suspicion that the premise could be possible (of course, not exactly in this form), combined with masterful skills of Wes Craven and the credible cast, led by Robert Englund, as one of the most awesome film villains of all time, we get a movie that maintains tension from the beginning to the end, and you will be at least a bit uncomfortable the next couple of nights while you are about to fall asleep. And if you are still a child, get ready for a few months of nightmares.

I do not like documentaries and I do not like "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas", but this is really worth a look.

The fifth film of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise is in every way "the same" as its predecessors. With minor exceptions, where it fails or shines for a moment, the whole franchise leaves an impression of one big movie. In terms of the story and in terms of directing, editing, camera, effects, sound, and acting, all five movies are more or less at the same level, therefore I have nothing to say about this movie that I have not said before about previous four. I just want to mention the end, which simply screams "Disney" and "Hollywood". Very emotional happy-end, with no humor and without any cliffhanger or at least an indication of the temporality of happiness, somehow does not fit into the tone of this franchise, but although it is typically Hollywood pathetic, or as Captain Jack Sparrow said: "What a truly revolting sight", I admit that it has achieved its purpose and I ended up with a few tears in my eyes.

Great story and even better cast. Really strong movie.

I saw it in the theater yesterday, and although it was not what I expected it to be, it was a very pleasant surprise. "Harry Potter" without Harry Potter is great.
While "Harry Potter" franchise is focused on children in Britain's magical community and adults and the magic in the rest of the world are mentioned only in passing, "Beasts" takes us to America where things are set differently. Something terrorize the city and slightly clumsy magical beasts lover, fired Auror, and muggle who was incidentally involved in all the mess are trying to solve the mystery and prevent the magical world being exposed. And in the focus of the story there is a magical suitcase that's bigger from the inside, as if it originated from Doctor Who's Tardis and Terry Pratchett's Luggage combined.
The movie is fast, resourceful, very witty and entertaining. The cast is excellent (Johnny Depp shows up only for a brief moment, but I hope they'll give him more space in sequels), CGI is great and there's lots of it, and magical beasts are truly fantastic. You'll fall in love with them for sure. The story doesn't have that epic feeling like "Harry Potter" had, but it is epic fun for all ages.
8,5/10 - DirectorGyörgy PálfiStarsIsabelle AdjaniAnouk AiméeWoody AllenA simple yet timeless love story between a man and a woman, told using scenes edited together from hundreds of other films."Umro je drug Tito"
One of the most original films I've ever seen is composed entirely of scenes stolen from other films. Hungarian director György Pálfi has made a universal romantic drama, skillfully and humorously combining clips from several hundred films, so black and white and color scenes, different genres and shooting techniques, actors, locations and epochs, rapidly alternate before our eyes, all followed by nicely blended music, also borrowed from other films and series. Clips were reportedly downloaded from torrent sites and, in order to avoid copyright lawsuits, the film was published as educational material by the Hungarian University of Film and Theater. It may seem confusing and even unwatchable at first, but do not let it deter you, because you will get used to it very quickly and after a few minutes you will no longer need extra concentration. The idea is ingenious, a realization hypnotizing, and I am afraid to even speculate how extensive his knowledge of world cinema is, as well as how much time and patience it took to assemble and edit this madness. Even if we disregard all the other qualities, the effort itself deserves a maximum rating. Bravo!

After centuries of captivity, Barnabas Collins, a vampire, returns home to Collinsport to regain his cursed family's glory. The film is based on the series of the same name from the 1960s, replacing the more serious and darker tone of the original with typically Barton's humor and fairy-tale atmosphere. Vampires, werewolves, witches, and ghosts are never outdated, especially not when played by Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, Helena Bonham Carter, Eva Green, Jackie Earle Haley, and Chloë Grace Moretz, with cameo appearances by Christopher Lee and Alice Cooper.

My arm is complete again."
Tim Barton's "Sweeney Todd" is a horror musical set in Victorian London, the story of a barber who returns home after years of exile to take revenge on a man who broke up his family and ruined his life. Although extremely dark and foul, the film is visually beautifully done. It possesses typically Barton's mesmerizing atmosphere and a phenomenal cast, also typically Barton's. Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Alan Rickman, Timothy Spall, Sacha Baron Cohen, Ed Sanders, all fit perfectly into their roles and perform their own music tracks. The film is an adaptation of the famous Broadway musical by Stephen Sondheim, and the only adaptation of any of his works that this composer has approved and supported. However, for me, music is the only reason why I will not give this film the highest rate. Although the lyrics of the songs perfectly guide us through this story and the mental states of its characters, the compositions themselves do not fit into this film in any way. The music was too intrusive and not dark enough and all the time it was diluting otherwise magical atmosphere.

A shrewd examination of the brutality of war and the duality of man in conflict. We've been kicking other people's asses for so long, I figure it's time we got ours kicked
I am aware of the size and significance of this film and I am able to see its technical and essential qualities. I am especially impressed with the cast it brings together. Still, I didn't like it at all, nor did I enjoy it in any way. The same was the case with "Apocalypse Now". It seems that I just don't like war movies, especially those about Vietnam. Even the most objective critics cannot completely remove the influence of their own taste and experience, so I, as a complete amateur, will not even try. The film was somewhat boring to me, but not so much boring as extremely strenuous. For me, "Platoon" is the film equivalent of hard physical work that I am capable of, but which exhausts me to the last atom of energy, and brings me nothing in return. If it didn't have the reputation of one of the best of all time, which is why I see it as a must-see and a part of general culture, I probably wouldn't endure more than half an hour.
