- CreatorEiichiro OdaStarsMayumi TanakaAkemi OkamuraLaurent VerninMonkey D. Luffy sets off on an adventure with his pirate crew in hopes of finding the greatest treasure ever, known as the "One Piece."There is a little too much I want to say about this series. But that would simply make this a huge read. That's why, I'd rather keep it to myself and say only marginal stuff. If you ever wanna discuss one piece, leave a comment and I'll ping you.
One Piece is a legend. Everything I want from anime, is present in this brilliant series. Based on pirates, this anime has unparalleled world-building. The plot is superb and highly intriguing. I could go on all day about this anime, but..........
One Piece manga >>> anime.
It has a ridiculous length(+750 episodes, +890 chapters). So my advice, do not try to jump ahead and see the whole journey in a nutshell. Just go with the flow and feel the journey. One Piece won't disappoint you. - StarsDavid VincentMatthew MercerDaisuke OnoThe story of the Joestar family, who are possessed with intense psychic strength, and the adventures each member encounters throughout their lives. Now this is really a great series. I haven't watched/read all of it though.
Part 1 is 7/10. Part 2 is 8/10. Part 3 is 9.5/10. Part 4 is 10/10. Part 5 is 9/10. Part 6 is 8.5/10. Part 7 is 15/10 for me.
Right now, it has 8 parts. With every passing part, this series gets more and more creative. The powers reach a new level of awesomeness.
The Hero of Part 3 is the most badass character I've encountered. The villain in part 4 is really amazing.
Part 7 --- The best part in the series. Everything here was perfect for me. I loved every bit of it. Its main character was the best JoJo. Its deuteragonist is a legend. Its villains are literally amazing. The main villain is equal or somewhat greater than the part 4 villain. The story, pace and progress was mindblowing.
JoJo is literally a God Tier Anime. - StarsYûsaku YaraRyô HorikawaKatsuji MoriVarious people, especially two rising commanders, cope with a massive continual space conflict between two interstellar nations. Its a brilliant series. Filled with immense warfare and politics, it touched my heart to a very significant level. Throughout its run, it never allowed me to pick sides. In the end, I was the neutral bystander, who witnessed history being forged by these heroes.
This series has a colossal amount of speech. It has less action, more talk. Less fighting, more strategizing. This might not appeal to many viewers and can often seem boring; depends on your tastes. However, I loved it right from the beginning.
It has multiple flaws. If we check minutely, the flaws can often be disturbing. Yet, the series was nigh perfect for me. I wholeheartedly love it. - DirectorKimura HisashiYukihiko TsutsumiStarsToshiaki KarasawaEtsushi ToyokawaTakako TokiwaYears after a schoolboy writes a book of prophecies, a mysterious super-villain uses it as his master-plan of world destruction.I READ THE MANGA. It is Naoki Urasawa's masterpiece.
It is a deep, complicated and gigantic story. It is psychologically draining. A non-linear storytelling, never dragging never rushing. It jumps from place to place, from one hero to another with alacrity. It is not the story of one man, it is a huge story of multiple character but in the grand scheme of themes, it is extremely tight and collected. The story telling is totally of the charts, never maintaining a status quo. It ties itself up so well. At no point does the thrill die, even though the story keeps jumping all over the place. Small mundane events keep influencing big changes and we see how the past shapes the future. And as things make sense after we connect them, the feeling of satisfaction is unmatched. There are a huge amount a loose threads and we see them getting tied so well. By the end of the epilogue, it feels like being rewarded for reading it. And that is why I said it is drains your psyche.
This manga has the capability to actually scare you, not with monsters, but with looming threat and incredible thrill. One simply drawn, dialogue-less panel of this manga can be far more scary than many other horror manga out there. After reading this, I am genuinely scared of 'Ninja Hattori' and I mean that literally.
Though it is primarily psychological, it taps into comedy, slice of life, school, drama and a few other genres. One thing that particularly impressed me, was the parallel comparison of a man and his childhood self. We get to see these naive children with big, lofty dream get hardened with time and struggle to earn their place in life, while fighting their own battles.
Then comes the villain. One of the scariest, weirdest and most dangerous type I've seen. I can't really get into details here because saying more will be a gigantic spoiler.
Artwork is incredible. On first look, it seems mundane and simplistic but as we read it, we realise how fiercely it compliments the story, thereby being the perfect match.
I am so glad I invested my time in this. Took me a long time to read and I am so glad, so satisfied. - StarsJeran UgokweJack StansburyMasato HagiwaraA young japanese man finds himself in a strange game to recover from his debts. You see, there are bad animes and then, there are good animes. Above these good animes, there is 10 feet of awesomeness. Then there is kaiji. The legendary anime that nobody watched. Based on gambling, it literally had me biting my nails on nearly every episode. For some reason, the gambling genre is appeals to me way too much.
Most people are thrown off by the fact that the artstyle of this series is weird and not an eyecandy like most anime. However, the artstyle matches the plot perfectly. The harsh plot which had many realities of life needed an angular and sharp artstyle in order to portray the different characters of different people.
Its pace is slow at points, but its really a nailbiter.
Kaiji is a survivor. It shows the truths of life, it shows the true nature of man. it shows how the rich can exploit the poor and it shows true despair. This is a series that'll grapple you by the neck and make you withstand cruel truths. - StarsYûto UemuraMike HaimotoShin'ya TakahashiFollowing a tragedy, Thorfinn embarks on a journey with the man responsible for it to take his life in a duel as a true and honorable warrior to pay homage.First of all, I read the manga. Its one of those rare experiences that you cherish more than you imagined. The plot is amazing, it captivated me right to the core. After its tone shift, I was sucked it even more. Now, every month, I wait for each chapter to release. It is deep; very deep. It shows society from an eerie angle, it makes us experience war on a different, scary way. It teaches us about life.
The protagonist is one of the best characters ever. I highly recommend this manga. Its pure brilliance.
I watched the anime as well!!! It is a fantastic adaptation and the ANIME OF THE YEAR for 2019. - CreatorNaoki UrasawaStarsHidenobu KiuchiLiam O'BrienMamiko NotoTenma, a brilliant neurosurgeon with a promising future, risks his career to save the life of a critically wounded young boy. The boy, now a charismatic young man, reappears 9 years later in the midst of a string of unusual serial murders. The first time I watched it, I was just a 16yo boy experiencing his first seinen. Even though I understood and liked it, I failed to truly appreciate its greatness.
Im 19 now. I've matured, somewhat. And I finally got the chance to read the manga. I am truly enthralled. The story that unfurled before me, was nothing short of a masterpiece. The plot alone, is one of the best I've ever came across. What shocks me, is how intricately detailed it is, both storywise and characterwise. These two intertwined, striking a perfect balance.
The way the flashbacks are fused with the linear story, the way it builds up the tension, the mystery, the fear, is truly unmatched. We get to see some horrifying truth; and since every action has a consequence, enter the story of monster. From children's stories, to brainwashing kids, to genetic manipulation and right until forgiveness and redemption, monster shows it all.
Moving on to the characters, boy do they shine as bright as the sun. We have the perfect villain, a beautiful young man with superior genes, devoid of emotion, and a growing monster inside of him. He is a master manipulator, the dictator of death. In some ways, he is the second coming of Hitler. The we have the protagonist, a person blessed with innate goodness. His compassion, his love, his sense of responsibility, his courage and so, it all leads to a deeply lovable person. Due to his somewhat passive, non-violent nature, he is extremely underappreciated. He gets overshadowed by the villain and a certain side character. But if someone truly looks at him, they will see how humane he is, how incredible he is. He is undoubtedly one of the characters I love the most.
If I move on the appreciate the multiple side characters now (who are far too well written), this will be way too long, so I will end it here.
The anime has somewhat of a slow pace, but the manga doesn't have the problem. The major arcs, with the occasional subplots to handle abstract themes, are so well placed and beautifully paced. The animation is good, given its era and the artwork is amazing, even to this day. - CreatorYoshihiro TogashiStarsIssei FutamataMegumi HanCristina ValenzuelaGon Freecss aspires to become a Hunter, an exceptional being capable of greatness. With his friends and his potential, he seeks out his father, who left him when he was younger.Damn I loved this one !!! A brilliantly written series with nearly no flaws. It shows adventure, so the probability of someone getting bored is zero. Loads and loads of fun coupled with fantastic characters and innovative powers. It touches your heart like naruto and appeals to the brain, just like death note.
- StarsMasakazu MoritaJun FukuyamaRie KugimiyaIn ancient China, a young boy dreams of becoming the greatest general of the Qin Kingdom. The Kingdom Manga !!! Oh what a read ! A wonderful story of warfare, filled with charge, and rage and a hunger for more. We get to see a wide range of fantastic characters, each more daunting than the next.
It has politics, it has bloodshed, it has unending warfare --- instinctual and tactical. The main character is immensely developed along with quality support characters.
Currently, the manga is ongoing. Do check it out. - StarsMamoru MiyanoAsami ImaiKana HanazawaAfter discovering time travel, a university student and his colleagues must use their knowledge of it to stop an evil organization and their diabolical plans. The best SciFi anime on my list. A phenomenal anime. It might be tough to grasp for some viewer, but if anyone manages to understand whatever the hell is going on, then they'll see the brilliance of the show. Within 5 episodes, I was hooked into this. The premise is one of the most interesting ones ever --- Time travel.
It has mild action, some romantic parts, lots of comedy, a complicated but mindblowing plot. The main and support characters, they're all top-notch.
Right now, I don't think there is a sci-fi as good as this. - StarsMamoru MiyanoBrad SwaileVincent TongAn intelligent high school student goes on a secret crusade to eliminate criminals from the world after discovering a notebook capable of killing anyone whose name is written into it.This is the anime that introduced me properly to the anime world and made me look into more of them.
It is definitely one of the best anime series of all time, for it presents a deeply unique and compelling story. I can truly say it is one of the best as until now, I haven't found any series that comes even close to its level of psychological prowess.
It is extremely fast paced with two of the best characters I've ever encountered. It is a clash of beliefs, of individuals, of demi-gods with mere humans, of deathgods with humans and so much more.
The first part of this series is probably the best anime I've watched. However, due to certain stuff in the later part, I couldn't like it as much and thus put it here.
It is a must watch. Anyone who hasn't seen it has missed an integral part of anime. - DirectorToshiki MasudaStarsAkinori AndôNobunori AramakiSaya HikitaOYASUMI PUNPUN. OYASUMI PUNPUN. OYASUMI PUNPUN. NO. I'm talking about a fantastic manga called Oyasumi Punpun. It has no anime, so this is how I put it into IMDB.
It is one of the best manga I've read. Melancholic, dark and very, very depressing, its highly realistic. The plot is perfect, the characters are perfect and the artwork is phenomenal.

DO NOT WATCH THE ANIME.
So I read the manga. It is without doubt, a masterpiece. A long but very well written manga with stunning artwork. The amount of detail it puts on the eyes is really good; as if the eyes speak more than the tongue.
The best thing about it are the characters. It has a big cast with lovely characters; each one have properly developed, fleshed out characters. We see their beliefs, ambitions, emotions and their way of life. Nearly everyone has a proper background that led them to their present morals and ideals.
Then, the emotions. The whole manga is overflowing with emotions. You see, it portrays immense number of fights and every fight has its own significance. The clash of swords as well as the clash of morals and ambitions. Everyone's thoughts and feeling are properly shown which makes the manga extremely touching.
The fights are very good. There are so many different styles and patterns of fighting, each character having specific skillsets and unique traits. The plot is nigh perfect. We get to see so many mysteries and ALL of them are solved by the end. The story is really very good with proper comic reliefs after the intense battles.
This should be enough, if you wanna know more, come find me............
A manga that MUST BE READ. - CreatorKentaro MiuraStarsMarc DiraisonNobutoshi CannaCarrie KeranenGuts, a wandering mercenary, joins the Band of the Hawk after being defeated in a duel by Griffith, the group's leader and founder. Together, they dominate every battle, but something menacing lurks in the shadows. There are multiple adaptations of Berserk. Movies trilogy, 1900s anime, 2016 3D anime and of course, the Manga.
Out of these, the manga is undoubtedly the best form of berserk. Extremely brutal with lots of nudity [As brutal as Game of thrones. More nudity than Game of thrones]. Set in lot older times, the quality of art and the storytelling is simply genius. The best thing about berserk manga is its artwork. One of the best manga out there, berserk is definitely a must read.
Its best if you are above 16-17. Berserk is a treat, a legend. - StarsJessie James GrelleBryce PapenbrookTrina NishimuraAfter his hometown is destroyed and get traumatized, young Eren Jaeger vows to cleanse the earth of the giant humanoid Titans that have brought humanity to the brink of extinction. This series has been a real roller coaster. The first season was mankind's struggle for survival. The next season made us question our memories and starts its mindfuck game. It is followed by a lot of political battles and we reach a proper foothold. The latest season, which is by far, the best season, gives us new hope as well as new despair. It introduces us to tremendous rage, fear, awe. It shows us epic battles; it shows us the first glimpse of the cruel world; it hints us on what lies ahead..........we reach the ocean, something we always wanted to see but the joy doesn't stay because on the other side, enemies await.
The manga too, is pure brilliance. The plot is true mindfuck and 100% seinen. It is a damn cruel world and from a moral standpoint, it drives us crazy.
The main character has become one of my favorites; Eren Jaeger, the man who went from 2D to 4D. His character development is a major portion of this manga's brilliance. I can probably spend an hour talking about him and him alone. And then there are the side characters, the ones who once outshined Eren but then, were shadowed in his brilliance.
Animation is crisp, breathtaking and beautiful. Wit studio outdid themselves, especially in S3P2. The artwork is sinister and perfectly grasps the world. Soundtracks boil your blood.
P.S -- AoT went from my top 10s to top 20s to top 50s and then jumped back up to top 15s. xD - CreatorHideaki AnnoStarsMegumi OgataMegumi HayashibaraKotono MitsuishiA teenage boy finds himself recruited as a member of an elite team of pilots by his father.I've always had a dislike for the mecha genre. But boy was I wrong about this one. This goes far beyond mecha, it is far deeper, much more complex.
We start with the theme of humanity fighting an impending apocalypse with advance robot technology. But as the show goes on, we find that it was just the surface; reality is far too cruel, far too darker. It is the evolution of humanity and various plots for and against it. It has a deeply sinister feel to it and even though it felt somewhat infodumped near the end, it is written very skillfully.
A major portion of the show is dedicated to character development. More or less all our main characters are mentally challenged. No they're not crazy, per se, but each of them has their own share of issues --- guy with father issues fighting loneliness by being a pussy?!! , a girl who is basically a bot but develops character over time, a girl fighting her inner demons and her need to be loved by being way too alpha and biting more than she can chew, a girl who fucks and talks non stop to forget her childhood trauma, a guy being the worst human being possible and having genocidal thoughts because he fears relations and wants to meet his wife respectively (boy thts a lot of crap !?!)
One might hate the show because the main character is a giant wuss. But if they do hold on, they will realise tht he grows more manlier after every fight. His self loathing nature is solely because of his parents being bad at parenting. He grows a lot better, then he becomes trash, then he redeems himself, then he falls back again and he finally wins over his issues!!! What a roller coaster tht was. So, while he's not a likable character(actually I hated him for the first 3/4 episodes, he's so pathetic), he is a very developed one. We literally get to see him develop in front of us through a pseudo-therapy session.
Animation is delightful. It is flashy, it is colorful, it is fluid. Given tht it was made in 1995, it is splendid. In the words of a friend, it has an appropriate amount of grit. The OP and ED are delightful, especially the OP(a cruel angel's thesis; give it time, it WILL grow on you).

I cared about every bit of this anime. Each and every character, each and every development, the music, the blatant comedy, everything. And the ending was so perfect. Real by Inoue. Without a dount, Takehiko Inoue is now my second favorite mangaka, after Naoki Urasawa. The man is a genius. He has 3 major series under him - Slam Dunk, Vagabond and Real. Each one is a revolutionary gem.
Real is a manga that hit me in places I couldn't even imagine. It is so good that I actually had to take a break from it. It was consuming me, I lay awake in bed, thinking about what I just read.
Its mainly a drama, tangled with basketball.
I wouldn't really call it sports but then again, without the sports aspect, it loses most of its charm.
So real is now my second favorite sports series.
Note that I haven't spoken about the content at all - that's because I can't - every time I talk of it, I feel empty. - StarsTeruhiko AoiShunsuke ShimaAkira ShimadaJoe, a teenage orphan living in the slums of the Doya streets, meets Danpei, a homeless alcoholic and former boxing trainer. Danpei, seeing Joe's talent for boxing, decides to train him.The manga is one of the OG must read ones. Its a timeless classic.
However, its more of a life manga than a boxing manga; joe might have been a swimmer or a wrestler, the plot won't differ much. If you want a proper boxing manga, hajime no ippo is the one.
That said, the plot of this manga is fabulous. It is dark, it is good and something about it just clicks in the mind. Once you get sweeped into it, you would find it impossible to drop it.
The characters the just as good as the manga. Joe, the MC, is literally one of the best. He's a beast, he's a fighter. He's arrogant and headstrong. I can spend a whole day looking at his antics. A man trying to thrive in the world amidst harsh conditions. Then comes his trainer, the kids, the WOMAN and ofc, the opponents; each more thrilling than the next.
The art is actually dull, compared to today's top tiers but in no way is it bad. The intense scenes are made properly, the facial expressions are very good when they need to matter. Something about Joe's eyes just brings in the feels - melancholic, emotional, hungry......
The anime is not good, going by today's level.
Now, the fault that irritated me enough to not give this a 10/10, and a position in my top 15. That fault is the disrespect to boxing. I'm a boxing fan, who has watched 100s of matches. The kicking, biting, hitting the referee and disregarding of rules showed in this manga ticked me off. Sure, they were meant to show the characters and their zeal but no. Boxing is a sport; boxers are athletes, not wild beasts. Play the game in the spirit of the game!!!
With all this done, AnJ is more or less an actual masterpiece. - CreatorHiromu ArakawaStarsKent WilliamsIemasa KayumiMatthew LeonhartTwo brothers search for a Philosopher's Stone after an attempt to revive their deceased mother goes awry and leaves them in damaged physical forms.First time I watched it, I was 16; the second time, 19. In the first time, I belonged to the target audience and the series deeply resonated with me. The second time, it didn't give me the previous feeling but this time, I could analyze it somewhat objectively.
This series has nearly flawless writing. The pacing is incredible. You never feel it is getting dragged on and it is never too fast. When needed, it does a lot of things within no time and then again, it slows down to a point of stillness, when the story entails it. Every part of the plot is properly detailed and the way it all ties up in the end is just incredible. The ending is incredibly satisfying.
The power system must be mentioned. The law of equivalent exchange is the basis of alchemy and the way it is used is just so perfect. It is adequately detailed, giving proper explanations to all the events and processes thereby giving us a deeper understanding of the plot.
The characters are one of the best parts of this show. We got two male leads with different personalities, each complimenting the other. Despite having a lot of screentime, they do not overshadow the huge supporting cast. We have got a good female lead, an incredible deuteragonist, strong male as well as female supports, a great anti-hero, minor villains to set the scene, major villains behind every problem and a boss villain at the end. These were just the forerunners; inspite of the short, 64 episode run, the series has this amazing ability to provide small but significant developments to the side characters.
The animation is very decent and the series has great OP/ED.
Imo, it is a crime to rate this series lower than 9. - StarsMayo SuzukazeDorothy Elias-FahnRichard CansinoThe adventures of a young wandering swordsman who stumbles upon a struggling martial arts school in Meiji era Japan.Definitely a good anime. Everything that I love about sports anime, is available in this one. It made it take a liking towards volleyball, it gave me laughter, the moments of pure sadness, the moments of extreme hype. There were lovely characters and the plot is fairly good. Definitely a must watch for all sports fans.
With time, this series has only gone uphill. The first 3 seasons were incredibly good, putting this in my top 10 sports series.
Then comes Season 4, the time for training. At the time, I had no idea how incredibly important this arc is and how much it will impact the future arcs.
I read the Nationals arc from manga and it was pure fire. The game is riveting and completely unpredictable. It was a phenomenal arc and the following arcs are nearly as good. Currently, we are near the end of the manga and this is without a doubt, a phenomenal series. It is more or less impossible to watch this and come out with dislike for it.
Impact is something which deeply affects my experience of the sports series. Haikyuu delivers perfectly on that account.
Finally, a perfect ending. This has been an amazing journey and I'm grateful to have experienced it. - StarsMasato HagiwaraTsutomu IsobeKappei YamaguchiHiromichi Kojima, the star batter of the Lycaons, heads to the southern Japanese island of Okinawa to train and find a new pitcher for the team. At Kojima's urging, Tokuchi signs up with the Lycaons under an unusual contract: he gets 5,000,000 yen for every out he pitches, but loses 50,000,000 yen for every point he gives up. A high-level psychological game of baseball, gambling and logic is about to begin..Its a baseball anime. But then again, its not; its a psychological thriller. Its a short series with not much character development and side character focus. OK, I hope this is abundantly clear...........I'm talking about Historie manga, based on the life of the talented general of Alexander the Great, Eumenes. The manga shows how even the most simplistic of artstyles can depict the most meaning. Just looking at the simple character designs is enough to feel their soul. Their eyes and their expressions speak so much. Ofc our hero is totally different, he's kinda stoic and its hard to see through him. Sets him apart from the rest. We explore a very exciting story, where a man, who's intelligence and actions border on both genius and eccentric, keeps showing us how our actions and efforts contribute in determining our fate. Eumenes builds his own life with his own two hands.
There are a lot of side characters who have tried their best to be as interesting as Eumenes himself. There is a simple slave who bought his freedom and went on to become an accomplished leader, the simple girl who falls in love but learns to accept her fate, the future legend in making, i.e, Alexander, the crafty and slutty queen and the extremely insightful King.
Historie is a different level of genius. One of the best manga I've ever read. I guess I have a thing for politics and dialogue heavy series. This series captured me from a very early point. The premise is extremely intriguing and interesting. The steps to completely reform of a nation. God was I hooked.
The storytelling is incredible. The 2 main characters form kind of a yin-yang. A Guy with a bright, attractive personality, leading the darker parts of the nation and the Guy with a darker, more serious and scary personality, leading the bright face of a nation. The Yakuza(Mafia) and The Government reformed together to form a Sanctuary of a nation. The story is flooded with plenty of side characters and most of them are worthy of having their own spinoffs.
There are a few flaws with it too but I guess that's because of difference in opinion. I found the ending kinda underwhelming and the 'calm before the storm' to be slightly monotonous. Plus the portrayal of the society wasn't completely accurate.
Nevertheless, this was an incredible read. ONLY for Mature readers.
