- CreatorDavid BenioffD.B. WeissStarsEmilia ClarkePeter DinklageKit HaringtonNine noble families fight for control over the lands of Westeros, while an ancient enemy returns after being dormant for millennia.I was quite afraid after they seemingly ran out of material last year. Season 6 showed that they still had some stuff remaining from previous books, and that they've clearly seen what GRRM is working on because holy *beep* it was gooooooood.
It's like heads rolled in every episode, and sometimes, it was for characters who've been around since season 1. Also, *beep* yeah Lyanna Mormont!!! <3 - CreatorMatthew WeinerStarsJon HammElisabeth MossVincent KartheiserA drama about one of New York's most prestigious ad agencies at the beginning of the 1960s, focusing on one of the firm's most mysterious but extremely talented ad executives, Donald Draper.I'd be hard-pressed to explain why or how, but at some point, Mad Men becomes great. In the first few seasons, it was only good with glimmers of greatness sprinkled here and there. This year, I've watched seasons 4, 5 and 6, and most of it was nothing short of brilliant. Even though the characters are still an unlikable bunch, you're just rooting for them constantly (yes, even Peter Campbell).
- CreatorMark FrostDavid LynchStarsKyle MacLachlanMichael OntkeanMädchen AmickAn idiosyncratic FBI agent investigates the murder of a young woman in the even more idiosyncratic town of Twin Peaks. The entirety of the show was watched (except the three first episodes) this year. I loved loved loved some parts of it, and I hated some parts with a fiery passion. I don't know why they made up boring storylines in the second half, and I didn't even like the new bad guy. The quirkiness of it all, though, the characters that feel so familiar, the dialogues, the music, the weird scenes that happen because why the *beep* not, the setting, everything is gold in Twin Peaks, and that show was so close to being perfect. I still love the *beep* out it, and the sequel is coming in a few months now so I'm dying to get back there to marvel at... *those trees*...
- CreatorDavid SimonStarsDominic WestLance ReddickSonja SohnThe Baltimore drug scene, as seen through the eyes of drug dealers and law enforcement. We watched season 5 this time around, and the press angle was fantastic. It brought closure to many arcs and characters, but man, this show makes me so sad about American society (and French society too, in a way, although not nearly as much). I can't wait to see other David Simon shows, I'm 100% sold on this guy.
- CreatorFrank DarabontStarsAndrew LincolnNorman ReedusMelissa McBrideSheriff Deputy Rick Grimes wakes up from a coma to learn the world is in ruins and must lead a group of survivors to stay alive.IT. DID. NOT. DISAPPOINT. Season 6 clearly was the best season so far. And season 7 started with a heart-wrenching gut punch. After that, it's more story building than action, but Negan is such an awesome bad guy you could cut the tension with a knife every scene the guy is in. Yay.
- CreatorVince GilliganPeter GouldStarsBob OdenkirkRhea SeehornJonathan BanksThe trials and tribulations of criminal lawyer Jimmy McGill in the years leading up to and into his fateful run-in with Walter White and Jesse Pinkman.Season 2 wasn't as heartbeaking as season 1, but it's so good. It's like Breaking Bad is still alive, in a way. And I'm very happy about that. :)
- CreatorSam EsmailStarsRami MalekChristian SlaterCarly ChaikinElliot, a brilliant but unstable cyber-security engineer and vigilante hacker, becomes a key figure in a complex game of global chaos when he and his shadowy allies try to take down the corrupt corporation his company is paid to protect.I thought season 1 was quite overrated. I thought the beginning of season 2 was so slow it was gonna be a trainwreck. And slowly, episode by episode, it picked itself up. Great long scenes, great new characters, weird stuff (we all know what I'm referring to here) and cool music. And then the final episodes. Sam Esmail did it again.
Oh and it took entire episodes of tedious prep and engineering to "hack the FBI", it looked and sounded realistic while still being gripping, not like what happens on other shows that feature tech (see Scorpion, MacGyver, Hawaii Five-0, etc.). - CreatorBeau WillimonStarsKevin SpaceyMichel GillRobin WrightA Congressman works with his equally conniving wife to exact revenge on the people who betrayed him.I've watched season 3 and 4 this year, so yeah, I'm at last up to date! Whoop-dee-doo! Unfortunately, nothing beats the best moments in the first seasons. They finally got rid of that stupid arc in season 3, and season 4 is going in places you wouldn't believe. But Frank is just so intense. Yeah right, Claire's not bad either. I'm quite anxious to see what the hell they're gonna make up next.
- CreatorLisa JoyJonathan NolanStarsEvan Rachel WoodJeffrey WrightEd HarrisAt the intersection of the near future and the reimagined past, waits a world in which every human appetite can be indulged without consequence.Only three episodes were seen that year, so it's not much more than a sneakpeek. The ambition of that series is oozing in every shot. The soundtrack is nothing short of pure joy, the costumes, the sets, the actors, wow man I really gotta hurry up and finish this.
- CreatorDan GoorMichael SchurStarsAndy SambergStephanie BeatrizTerry CrewsComedy series following the exploits of Det. Jake Peralta and his diverse, lovable colleagues as they police the NYPD's 99th Precinct. This show doesn't get old. There's still trying new stuff (weird crossover anyone?), inventing stupid things every episode (Adrian Pimento? Like, really?), and being all-around hilarious morons. I've got two words for you: NINE NINE!!
- CreatorJohn AltschulerMike JudgeDave KrinskyStarsThomas MiddleditchT.J. MillerJosh BrenerFollows the struggle of Richard Hendricks, a Silicon Valley engineer trying to build his own company called Pied Piper.I love to see the Pied Piper guys growing as a company. I can't get enough of them. Plus, Erlich Bachmann is so *beep* insane.
- CreatorJenji KohanStarsTaylor SchillingDanielle BrooksTaryn ManningConvicted of a decade-old crime of transporting drug money, ordinarily law-abiding Piper Chapman is sentenced to 18 months behind bars and quickly discovers the realities of life-changing prison time.Only the second half of season 2 was seen this year, so I can't really say that I've seen a lot of it these days... it was really good, and it feels like the show is finding its groove. We're gonna have to catch up quickly or we'll be soon three seasons behind...
- CreatorAlex GansaHoward GordonStarsClaire DanesMandy PatinkinDamian LewisA bipolar CIA operative becomes convinced a prisoner of war has been turned by al-Qaeda and is planning to carry out a terrorist attack on American soil.We finally caught up and watched Season 5. It's impressive to watch it a year too late, because some of the stuff the characters speculate about has actually happened in the real world since. It's a fresh start for the series, completely dropping the Afghanistan/Lebanon/Iran storylines to focus on US surveillance, bombings in Europe and Russian/US spy relations. It mostly pays off, but wasn't as enticing as season 4 for me. The new characters are pretty convincing, especially Mirando Otto, which I love to hate.
- CreatorGeorge LucasStarsTom KaneDee Bradley BakerMatt LanterJedi Knights lead the Grand Army of the Republic against the droid army of the Separatists. Finally! I *finally* mustered up the courage to pick it up! And I'm glad I did, because it (season 5) *finally* answered a question I've had since they announced the series back in 2006 or 2007: what the *beep* are they gonna do with Ahsoka??? The arcs were pretty much hit or miss (the droid arc, anyone?), but some stuff was reaaaally good.
- CreatorLinwood BoomerMichael GloubermanGary MurphyStarsFrankie MunizBryan CranstonJustin BerfieldA gifted young teen tries to survive life with his dimwitted, dysfunctional family.I watched only Season 4 this time around, that's the Francis-is-working-in-a-ranch season. It wasn't great, but nothing sucked really, it was more than fine (quite impressive for a 13-year-old sitcom season), there was some good jokes, and the family reunion episode really took the cake.
- CreatorSimon KinbergCarrie BeckDave FiloniStarsDave FiloniTaylor GrayFreddie Prinze Jr.The crew of the spaceship Ghost defends those who cannot fight for themselves against the Empire, providing the spark for a rebellion. We watched season 2 and a few episodes of season 3 this year. It's quite good, and a bit too episodic for me, but they're very keen on making a lot of Star Wars references, especially to the old Expanded Universe, and it's quite sweet. I love how some of the stuff they did ended up in Rogue One. :)
- StarsOrelsanGringeJonathan CohenBloqués is a French YouTube Series. Gringe and Orelsan are two adults that like to lie on their couch and think about life. Bloqué is about their fear of work and their fear of comitement.Last year, I only watched a dozen of episodes or so, but I finished everything this time around. Some episodes were very inventive, and while quite a few felt like fillers, it's so short you can't get bored. Oh and OMG Serge le mytho. <3
- CreatorWill ForteStarsWill ForteJanuary JonesCleopatra ColemanAlmost two years after a virus wiped out most of the human race, Phil Miller only wishes for some company, but soon gets more than he bargained for when that company shows up in the form of other survivors.Ohh noooo... it feels like it's slowly getting less interesting... which is weird, because they're changing locations, bringing new characters and removing several others, but it's not clicking like it used to. Come on, get your act together!
- CreatorShin'ichirô WatanabeStarsKôichi YamaderaUnshô IshizukaMegumi HayashibaraThe futuristic misadventures and tragedies of an easygoing bounty hunter and his partners.I just didn't get it. I'm sure I'll watch it again down the line and it will light my world, but it didn't do something for me for the first viewing. It was either too episodic (WTF the fridge episode) or I didn't like the main storyline (booooring). The animation, the mood, the music, and THAT OPENING, though, did make up for it quite a bit.
- CreatorMatthew MillerStarsDamon WayansKeesha SharpKevin RahmA slightly unhinged ex-Navy SEAL Martin Riggs moves to California and starts working at the LAPD. He is paired with a veteran Detective Roger Murtaugh and together, they fight some of the most dangerous criminals in the city.I thought it was gonna be terrible. Lo and behold: it's not. It's actually fairly entertaining. I can't stand Murtaugh's wife, but the two main actors are really likeable. It's far from enough to top high-budget cable drama, but hey, it's very watchable.
- CreatorAaron KorshStarsGabriel MachtPatrick J. AdamsMeghan MarkleOn the run from a drug deal gone bad, brilliant college dropout Mike Ross finds himself working with Harvey Specter, one of New York City's best lawyers.I don't care about Suits anymore. It makes me sad to say this. I'll give them mad props for finally doing what had to happen this season, and it really made for fresh entertainment, but it quickly lapsed back to its old habits. Same stuff, different environment. The final episodes were surprisingly bold though.
- CreatorTrey ParkerMatt StoneBrian GradenStarsTrey ParkerMatt StoneIsaac HayesFollows the misadventures of four irreverent grade-schoolers in the quiet, dysfunctional town of South Park, Colorado.Much to the chagrin of some of my friends, I've started South Park with season 20 (the latest one). The beginning was quite original, and the mumbleberries gag was awesome ('member Chewbacca? 'member? Oooh I 'member!), but then it stretched arcs to their limit and became quite convoluted. It was nice, but not much more.
- CreatorPeter M. LenkovAlex KurtzmanLeonard FreemanStarsAlex O'LoughlinScott CaanTaylor WilyWhen former United States Navy officer, Steve McGarrett, returns home to Oahu to find his father's killer, the Governor offers him the chance to run his own special task force: Five-0.At some point in recent episodes, they have to stop a real life Iron Man. In another, they go around the globe to stop a terrorist with a nuclear weapon. Recently, they went rogue in Mexico to solve a kidnapping. It's like, H50 writers, are you even trying to be realistic and are you off your meds again? It's supposed to be about hardcore policemen in Oahu, not a cheap James Bond gone *beep* crazy ripoff. I still like it, but man, I used to enjoy the *beep* out of this show.
- CreatorChuck LorreBill PradyStarsJohnny GaleckiJim ParsonsKaley CuocoAspiring film actress Penny moves into a Pasadena apartment across the hall from brilliant, but socially awkward, physicists Sheldon Cooper and Leonard Hofstadter and shows them how little they know about life outside of the lab. They've clearly realized they were dying and are trying to make up for years of not moving things forward. So pretty much every character is going through sudden changes in his/her life (well almost). That's great and all, but it doesn't make an aging sitcom that's overstayed its welcome funny again.
- CreatorJeff DavisStarsTyler PoseyHolland RodenDylan O'BrienAn average high school student and his best friend get caught up in some trouble causing him to receive a werewolf bite. As a result they find themselves in the middle of all sorts of dramas in Beacon Hills. This half-season (because I'm late, I'm referring to the second half of season 5 here) is a tad better than the previous one. I can even remember what is what about, and as it brings closure to the previous half-season, it seems a bit more controlled. It's still very blurry, with people constantly referring to previous events and things like the audience was supposed to care for this series as much as it does for better shows like GoT. Oh and bonus points for bringing back a fav character in a weird arc.
