- DirectorAleksandr SokurovStarsSergey DreydenMariya KuznetsovaLeonid MozgovoyA 19th century French aristocrat, notorious for his scathing memoirs about life in Russia, travels through the Russian State Hermitage Museum and encounters historical figures from the last 200+ years.Watched at home on DVD on 21 January.
I honest to god WISH I could give this a 7.5/10.
As in, the half rating. Literally halfway between 7 and 8.
Because that is the frustration I get in rating this in my mind, at the least... and from the film itself.
This feels like one of the times that you really do fundamentally lose the strength of the movie by watching it on a TV screen, the world around you never fully pushed out in any way, though I suppose it still is an achievement regardless that it held my attention through and through for the entire movie and it does speak to its strength in that regard.
Frustration still abounds regardless..... - DirectorKenneth LonerganStarsCasey AffleckMichelle WilliamsKyle ChandlerA depressed uncle is asked to take care of his teenage nephew after the boy's father dies.Watched at Suntec City GV on 22 February.
Kind of similar feelings to Russian Ark, though to be fair this was a lot more... well, it felt less held together as a movie visually than Russian Ark... and maybe that's the point.
The movie itself feels interesting enough, albeit slow and thus sapping my energy during the screening because I was also really *beep* tired. - DirectorEdgar WrightStarsMichael CeraMary Elizabeth WinsteadKieran CulkinIn a magically realistic version of Toronto, a young man must defeat his new girlfriend's seven evil exes one by one in order to win her heart.Watched at home on DVD on 2 March.
- DirectorAnthony SchattemanStarsEzra FieremansTim BogaertsMarijke PinoyThe son of a schlager singer wants to sing the song his own way.Watched on YouTube on 21 March... at about 12:30 am.
I'm watching a past work by another director, of Jackpot fame in my mind, and.... it's a thing.
(Which I'm adding the addendum here now to say that no, that's not the guy, I am a sodding idiot) - DirectorDavid O'ReillyStarsJulian BarrattPearl BrilmyerAdam BuxtonIn a funny looking yet very bleak world, a boy learns to play piano while a cat and various other animal characters encounter all sorts of drugs, sex, violence and profanity, with numerous references to pop culture phenomena.Watched it on Vimeo on 11 April.

- DirectorMark N. HopkinsStarsChris BrasherDavinder GillChiara LeporaIn the war-zones of Liberia and Congo, four volunteers with Doctors Without Borders struggle to provide emergency medical care under extreme conditions.Watched it at The Projector on 10 June.
Kedi wasn't available because the projector broke, thus leaving this movie being shown as part of the Doctors Without Borders Film Festival.
I think it's generally an effective and well made movie, at least in dealing with the themes related to it. (A sense of humanising for both the locals and the doctors under MSF, the frustration those interactions entail, the extent and scale of both the situation causing the health crisis and the health crisis itself) - DirectorCeyda TorunStarsYaman BarlasSariArzu GölA profile of an ancient city and its unique people, seen through the eyes of the most mysterious and beloved animal humans have ever known, the Cat.Watched it at The Projector on 11 June.
And finally, I watched the movie I originally wanted to.
The actual rating's probably more a break between 8 and 9, at least right now, so... 8.5. Yesterday's movie probably has the same status of the "actual" rating feeling more of a 7.5.
At this point I think that these ratings feel too out there in terms of my attachment to them, so I will just say that, in general, I adored both the movie as a movie (A large part of how the visual part of the medium is handled, if not all of it) and the movie as its subject matter and the relationship between the inhabitants of Istanbul involved in it (feline or human) - DirectorKyle BaldaPierre CoffinEric GuillonStarsSteve CarellKristen WiigTrey ParkerGru meets his long-lost, charming, cheerful, and more successful twin brother Dru, who wants to team up with him for one last criminal heist.Watched it at The Cathay on 1 July as a part of a company event (From one of my parents)
It's a thing... blargh. - DirectorTim HautekietSammy PaulStarsSteven DoddAlice Ann StaceyAfter trying and failing to end it all, Peter Wright now has to face the awkward repercussions.Watched it at home on YouTube on 2 July.
If nothing else, I think the thought of the last half of the movie, or perhaps even the whole movie, having her friend be more of a metaphorical than literal presence is something that I think is at least interesting, though perhaps also the whole monologue itself is too, even if it is very simple in message ultimately. - DirectorJames WanStarsPatrick WilsonRose ByrneBarbara HersheyThe Lamberts believe that they have defeated the spirits that have haunted their family, but they soon discover that evil is not beaten so easily.Watched it at school as a part of a movie night on 28 July.
It's... a thing. I mean, it's fine, kind of, but everything's all... reeeeeally inconsistent everywhere. - DirectorEsteban BravoBeth DavidStarsNick AinsworthKelly DonohueA boy has a crush on another boy and he is too shy to confess, but his heart is not so reticent.Watched it at home on YouTube on technically 7 August because I watched it at beyond midnight.
Almost unbearably cute and I think that's probably it's strongest aspect, alongside its visuals. - DirectorChristopher NolanStarsFionn WhiteheadBarry KeoghanMark RylanceAllied soldiers from Belgium, the British Commonwealth and Empire, and France are surrounded by the German Army and evacuated during a fierce battle in World War II.Watched at Shaw Lido on 24 August 2017.
Actual rating probably lies somewhere in 8.5/10, but it's still a great viewing experience nonetheless. - DirectorEdgar WrightStarsAnsel ElgortJon BernthalJon HammDoc forces Baby, a former getaway driver, to partake in a heist, threatening to hurt his girlfriend if he refuses. But the plan goes awry when their arms dealers turn out to be undercover officers.Watched at Vivo City GV on 25 August.
I'm noticing that my love for this movie and my love for In a Heartbeat is at least connected by visual flow, if nothing else. - DirectorOscar SharpStarsThomas MiddleditchHumphrey KerElisabeth GrayA computer generated the screenplay for this short science fiction film.Watched this at home on 3 September on YouTube because... yeah.
Kind of a surreal experience, I guess I can safely rate on its production or something... not the script though, given the context. - 19641h 35mPG8.3 (525K)97MetascoreDirectorStanley KubrickStarsPeter SellersGeorge C.
