- DirectorGenndy TartakovskyStarsAdam SandlerKevin JamesAndy SambergDracula, who operates a high-end resort away from the human world, goes into overprotective mode when a boy discovers the resort and falls for the count's teenaged daughter.1/2/17 ASCPL/Blueray
Laughed aloud often. Better than anticipated, which was a pleasant bonus. - DirectorCecil B. DeMilleStarsJames StewartCharlton HestonBetty HuttonThe dramatic lives of trapeze artists, a clown, and an elephant trainer are told against a background of circus spectacle.1/3/17-1/4/17 TCM/DVR
Long movie that I intentionally split into two viewings. Enjoyed the real Ringling Circus bits more than the actual storyline. Found Betty Hutton (the female lead) decidedly unglamorous which is contrary to my idea of a center-ring circus performer. - DirectorGeorge ShermanStarsYvonne De CarloDan DuryeaRod CameronDuring the 1850s, crooked lumber syndicate man Beauvais tries to take over the local mill while Sequin, the sensual owner of a gambling riverboat, tries to control the heart of Mississippi lumberjack Dan Corrigan.1/6/17 ASCPL/DVD
Watched this one solely for Yvonne DeCarlo. Never knew she could sing! The movie itself is totally forgettable. - DirectorUbaldo RagonaSidney SalkowStarsVincent PriceFranca BettoiaEmma DanieliWhen a disease turns all of humanity into the living dead, the last man on earth becomes a reluctant vampire hunter.1/23/17 ASCPL/DVD
A bit cheesy but I've read the Richard Matheson story and it's got Vincent Price, so I couldn't say no. - DirectorWilfred JacksonStarsDorothy ComptonMarcellite GarnerBeatrice HagenBig race. Hare, fast and in lead, stops to loaf and show off to girl bunnies. Tortoise, plodding along at steady, slow pace, wins, although hare tries a last minute burst of speed.1/23/17 TCM/DVR
Silly Symphony short film. Early Disney style. Some of the gags featuring Toby Tortoise are still amusing. Max Hare is thoroughly obnoxious. According to Leonard Maltin, he may have influenced Warner Brothers animators in the creation of Bugs Bunny. - DirectorJack CuttingClyde GeronimiHamilton LuskeStarsClarence NashAmanda CewelTom CotryA baby duckling is shunned by his family because he is different. He is also rejected by all of the other birds and animals. Finally a mother swan adopts him as one of her brood.1/23/17 TCM/DVR
Silly Symphony short film. More realistic Disney animation style. The quacking/talking of the ducks makes the dialogue nearly comprehensible. The emotions of the title character are convincingly conveyed. A great interpretation of the Hans Christian Anderson classic. - DirectorJon BurtonStarsClancy BrownTroy BakerChristopher Corey SmithWhen the Joker and Lex Luthor form an alliance, Batman must team up with the Justice League in order to stop them.1/28/17 ASCPL/DVD
Truly awful. Not funny, not entertaining, not well-written, not worthwhile. - DirectorMorton DaCostaStarsRosalind RussellForrest TuckerCoral BrowneAn orphan goes to live with his free-spirited aunt. Conflict ensues when the executor of his father's estate objects to the aunt's lifestyle.2/11-2/13/17 AMC/DVR
The story is a bit dated but still contains a sprinkling of clever lines. Rosalind Russell is spectacular! - DirectorJudd ApatowStarsAmy SchumerBill HaderBrie LarsonHaving thought that monogamy was never possible, a commitment-phobic career woman may have to face her fears when she meets a good guy.2/11/17 ASCPL/DVD
The only humorous parts in this movie are the short cameos by sports celebrities. The rest is truly unfunny. And I can buy Amy Schumer as a slut but never Bill Hader as a love interest. Never. - DirectorTom HooperStarsHugh JackmanRussell CroweAnne HathawayIn 19th-century France, Jean Valjean, who for decades has been hunted by the ruthless policeman Javert after breaking parole, agrees to care for a factory worker's daughter. The scenes with Will Geer and Robert Redford are charming. - DirectorPete DocterRonnie Del CarmenStarsAmy PoehlerBill HaderLewis BlackAfter young Riley is uprooted from her Midwest life and moved to San Francisco, her emotions - Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust and Sadness - conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house, and school.3/2/17 ASCPL/BluRay
Liked parts but overall was disappointed that it was not closer to the source material in Reason and Emotion. CooperErnest B. SchoedsackStarsFay WrayRobert ArmstrongBruce CabotA film crew goes to a tropical island for a location shoot, where they capture a colossal ape who takes a shine to their blonde starlet, and bring him back to New York City.3/24/17 TCM/DVR
Holds up fairly well. The special effects are crude by current standards but amazing when considering the era of their creation. - DirectorBill CondonStarsEmma WatsonDan StevensLuke EvansA selfish Prince is cursed to become a monster for the rest of his life, unless he learns to fall in love with a beautiful young woman he keeps prisoner.4/1/17 Cinemark Theater
Thoroughly enjoyable live-action adaptation. Filled some plot holes in the animated version and added some new musical numbers. Occasionally had a old-time HUGE musical production Buzby Burkely feel, which was awesome. - DirectorMelville ShavelsonStarsLucille BallHenry FondaVan JohnsonA widower with ten children falls for a widow with eight, and they must decide about forming a huge, unconventional family.4/2/17 TCM/DVR
