The Oscar Nominations We Want to See5 of 14
Best Original Score: 'Annihilation'
If it were up to me, Annihilation would be nominated for everything (at the very least, director Alex Garland, cinematographer Rob Hardy, and the VFX team deserve some kudos). But instead, I'll focus on the one category where the film actually has a shot: Best Original Score. Ben Salisbury and Geoff Barrow's soundtrack has already been shortlisted, and it's just as haunting as anything in the film itself; a knotty, nightmarish squall of synths that slowly snakes its way around your neck and suffocates you. When you have people freaking out over a single musical cue, you know you've done something great. — James M
