Horror Remake of the Week
You want a slasher flick? Go see Halloween. You want a remake that completely reinvents a '70s horror classic? Check out Suspiria. Dario Argento's original is a highly regarded and vibrant Grand Guignol mess, so director Luca Guadagnino (Call Me by Your Name) wisely switched gears and went pure arthouse. It's sure to polarize audiences, but there is plenty to appreciate here, including some great performances, meticulously crafted sound design, and amazing dance sequences that feel raw, dangerous, and empowering. Suspiria is in limited release now and opens in the U.S. on Nov. 2.
