- DirectorAnthony RussoJoe RussoStarsChris EvansRobert Downey Jr.Scarlett JohanssonPolitical involvement in the Avengers' affairs causes a rift between Captain America and Iron Man.The one kicking off the summer looks like it will be kicking off my list too. While I think the Marvel films tend to be overhyped and honestly, are pretty much the same movie almost everytime, (Ant-Man felt a lot like the original Iron Man to me) I did really enjoy Captain America: The Winter Soldier. With this installment from the same directors, an excellent cast coming, and our first look at Spider-Man in the MCU, you can count on me being in the theater opening night for this one.
- DirectorDavid AyerStarsWill SmithJared LetoMargot RobbieA secret government agency recruits some of the most dangerous incarcerated super-villains to form a defensive task force. Their first mission: save the world from the apocalypse.Much further into the Summer, DC will be in its third inning with their own 'Cinematic Universe' and will be releasing Suicide Squad. I loved David Ayer's directing in Fury, and the trailers have so far been great. I think Robbie will steal the show as Harley Quinn, who is one of my favorite DC villains, and the rest of the cast looks to be very good as their respective characters. Hopefully this won't be another Batman v Superman for DC, and won't be a bunch of wasted potential throughout. Still, this is another one for opening night.
- DirectorJames WanStarsVera FarmigaPatrick WilsonMadison WolfeEd and Lorraine Warren travel to North London to help a single mother raising four children alone in a house plagued by a supernatural spirit. As someone who doesn't get scared often, it should be no surprise I don't enjoy the horror genre very much. I really hated Insidious, and find the original Poltergeist to be overrated. Still, I enjoyed the original Conjuring film, with its solid acting, decent scares, and some great production design, though I did find to be a little close to Insidious in terms of plot. Since James Wan is coming back I think I might still get an Insidious vibe from these movies but I'll just hope they mix it up a little in round 2. I'll definitely see this one, but reviews might break or make how soon I see it.
- DirectorYorgos LanthimosStarsColin FarrellRachel WeiszJessica BardenIn a dystopian near future, according to the laws of The City, single people are taken to The Hotel, where they are obliged to find a romantic partner in 45 days or they're transformed into beasts and sent off into The Woods. Finally releasing in the United States in limited release this May, I anticipate this one. If I'm honest, I do not know what it is about, but the raving reviews make me want to see this one, and I will do so as soon as it comes to my area.
- DirectorRoland EmmerichStarsLiam HemsworthJeff GoldblumBill PullmanTwo decades after the first Independence Day invasion, Earth is faced with a new extra-Solar threat. But will mankind's new space defenses be enough?I did not enjoy the original Independence Day too much. I didn't find myself having too much fun with it as I probably should of, and found the movie to be dull despite flashy visuals. So why is this on my list? Well the trailer was pretty damn good. Is that a dumb reason? Eh, probably. The visuals do indeed look excellent this time around, and I feel a sequel to this movie could give it a lot of routes. I didn't like the original Cloverfield, but hey, I loved 10 Cloverfield Lane, and maybe, just maybe, this movie could surprise me in that regard. Even if it sucks, it should be decent enough with the visuals and soundtrack to be deserving to see in the theaters. This one should be worth a 3D matinee at least, unless of course the reviews tell it is a disaster, in which I will surely avoid.
