Editors' Picks: Our Favorite Things From the Week of Feb. 252 of 12
Interview of the Week
As a lead-up to the Oscars, Variety published an interview with Barbra Streisand, who talked candidly about the Hollywood boys' club and her directing snubs. But there was a more fascinating reveal: Two of Streisand's Coton de Tulear dogs were cloned from her beloved pet Samantha, pictured, who died in 2017. Even more amusing than this fact, which will surely inspire a few screenplays, was the internet reaction. A few of our favorites:
"Isn't it rich? Aren't we a pair ... Send in the clones." "Roses are red. Flowers are nice. Barbra Streisand cloned her dog twice."
Not everyone was amused. PETA issued an official statement discouraging the cloning of pets, strongly encouraging rescue dogs as the better option. Which makes us wonder: Is this a common thing?
