Boston: "Fringe"
This series started out as a supernatural procedural with a "monster of the week" approach, then ramped it up until we got to parallel universes, alternate timelines and observes from the future. Although I loved the fantastical, mind bending and often disturbing elements, the through-line that kept the series grounded was the growing relationship between a scrappy FBI agent (Olivia Dunham), mad scientist (Dr. Walter Bishop), his caretaker (Agent Astrid Farnsworth), and his semi-estranged son (Peter). — Vanessa
