- A New Understanding explores the treatment of end-of-life anxiety in terminally ill cancer patients using psilocybin, a psychoactive compound found in some mushrooms, to facilitate deeply spiritual experiences. The documentary explores the confluence of science and spirituality in the first psychedelic research studies since the 1970s with terminally ill patients. As a society we devote a great deal of attention to treating cancer, but very little to treating the human being who is dying of cancer. The recent resurgence of psychedelic research is once again revealing the power of compounds like psilocybin to profoundly alter our understanding of both life and death. Through the eyes of patients, their loved ones, therapists, and researchers, A New Understanding examines the use of psilocybin in a controlled setting to reduce psychospiritual anxiety, depression, and physical pain. The treatment aims to help the patient understand that a 'good' death is possible, and to help the patient's family deal well with the dying process. A New Understanding shows patients and their families coming to terms with dying through the skillful treatment of the whole human being. If we can learn to work more skillfully with dying, we will also learn to take better care of life.

- DirectorDave DavidsonStarsMarshall CrenshawSuzzy RocheStewart LermanAt age 50, musician and poet, Rob Morsberger was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer - and it came at the high point in his career. After 25 years in the music business, critics were starting to compare his songwriting to Randy Newman, Tom Waits and even Stephen Foster. Finally, it was all starting to come together. Rather than succumb to the shockingly grim news that he had 18 to 20 months to live, Rob used it as fuel to launch into the most prolific period of his songwriting career - determined to utilize whatever remained of this physical and spiritual resources to explore through words and music the nature of life, the inevitability of death and the infinite magic in the detail of a single moment. This musical legacy was for all to hear but it was especially for his 8 year old son so he could know and remember his father. - DirectorBrandon VedderPersonal storytelling allows one to pour out their story in their own unique voice, making crucial connections otherwise buried in a lifetime of details. The ears lucky enough to hear these stories have the opportunity to see the storyteller in their most complex and naked truth, with context, tone, and all those tells that makes the storyteller a whole person. 'Never This Close' is a short form documentary, which serves as a portrait of a sage like 93-year old man who has been that set of ears thousands of times. Wilber "Wil" Alexander has sat at the bedside of the sick and the dying for the last 40 years, inviting the wounded to tell their stories, walking alongside them and aiding in their search for meaning. The film follows Wil as he uniquely cares for sick, wounded and terminal patients without the modern technology or procedures that define most healthcare practice. We will watch, as what sounds like an unrelated and even dangerous distraction from treatment, becomes one of the most powerful tools in restoration. The healing rounds take on a greater complexity as Wil's own health wains in a way that puts him face to face with his own mortality. This factor propels the medical professionals around him to work tirelessly to find a way to capture and codify his methods in a way that can be taught and replicated by young physicians, nurses and caretakers before its too late to pass on his life's work.

Some say they're playing with trains. Others say they're staying engaged and staying alive. Either way, there's more to model railroading than meets the eye. Too many people grow up and grow out of what they loved as kids. Model railroaders are different. They're doing exactly what they want to do--and they don't need to explain themselves.
