This is what I've been waiting for".
Top film and a crazy concept which was disappointingly rehashed in the U.S. film "The Condemned". - DirectorPark Chan-wookStarsChoi Min-sikYoo Ji-taeKang Hye-jeongAfter being kidnapped and imprisoned for fifteen years, Oh Dae-Su is released, only to find that he must track down his captor in five days.Friends had always been telling me to watch this film, but I've only recently been seriously getting into films so I managed to get myself a copy a couple of months ago and was just blown away.
The epic fighting scene in the hallway is without doubt the highlight of this film. - DirectorJames CameronStarsArnold SchwarzeneggerLinda HamiltonEdward FurlongA cyborg, identical to the one who failed to kill Sarah Connor, must now protect her ten year old son John from an even more advanced and powerful cyborg. No description needed really... classic film.
- DirectorAdam ElliotStarsToni CollettePhilip Seymour HoffmanEric BanaIn 1976 Melbourne, a lonely 8-year-old girl strikes up a correspondence with an unlikely pen pal: a severely obese 44-year-old New Yorker with Asperger's syndrome.A truly warm and heartfelt film about two people on the other sides of the world who start off as pen-pals but end as each others best friend.
Suffering with depression myself, this film really moved me and will probably remain one of my all-time favourites. - DirectorMike JudgeStarsRon LivingstonJennifer AnistonDavid HermanThree company workers who hate their jobs decide to rebel against their greedy boss.Jokes. This film taps into what a lot of us may feel about our mundane jobs, with the characters having the balls to rebel.
Always enjoy watching this film. - DirectorDarren AronofskyStarsSean GulletteMark MargolisBen ShenkmanA paranoid mathematician searches for a key number that will unlock the universal patterns found in nature.I watched this last week and was hooked from the start as you witness Maximillian slowly start to lose his mind.
A great ride, sometimes disturbing, but a brilliant film. - DirectorRob ReinerStarsWil WheatonRiver PhoenixCorey FeldmanA writer recounts a childhood journey with his friends to find the body of a missing boy.I've always found the best Stephen King film adaptations have always been his 'non-horror' works?
Great film. - DirectorMichel GondryStarsJim CarreyKate WinsletTom WilkinsonWhen their relationship turns sour, a couple undergoes a medical procedure to have each other erased from their memories forever.Perhaps Michel Gondry should put his pen to paper more often and direct his own stories as this is a top-notch film from a very creative and unique individual.
- DirectorGuillermo del ToroStarsIvana BaqueroAriadna GilSergi LópezIn the Falangist Spain of 1944, the bookish young stepdaughter of a sadistic army officer escapes into an eerie but captivating fantasy world.Even though I've only recently been getting into films, for some reason I've always been a bit obsessed with Guillermo del Toro.
Pan's Labyrinth is probably his finest achievement to date. - DirectorRichard SchenkmanStarsDavid Lee SmithTony ToddJohn BillingsleyAn impromptu goodbye party for Professor John Oldman becomes a mysterious interrogation after the retiring scholar reveals to his colleagues he has a longer and stranger past than they can imagine.A friend recommended this to me and I'm glad that he did.
Even though the whole film takes place in one room, it's extremely captivating and very well written.
As the main character slowly unravels his story piece-by-piece, you find yourself totally engrossed. It's like reading a good book that you just can't put down. - DirectorRobert De NiroStarsRobert De NiroChazz PalminteriLillo BrancatoAn intense drama about a boy torn between his tough, hard-working father and a violent yet charismatic crime boss.Haven't seen this film for a few years, but I remember watching it as a kid falling in love with it.
Can't really remember much about the film, I just remember catching it on TV and absolutely loving it. - DirectorVincenzo NataliStarsNicole de BoerMaurice Dean WintDavid HewlettA group of strangers awaken to find themselves placed in a giant cube. Each one of them is gifted with a special skill and they must work together to escape an endless maze of deadly traps.Rented this a few weeks ago and was not disappointed. A very clever concept and was perhaps the inspiration for the Saw films.
- DirectorGuillermo del ToroStarsFederico LuppiRon PerlmanClaudio BrookA mysterious device designed to provide its owner with eternal life resurfaces after four hundred years, leaving a trail of destruction in its path. This is where my obsession with Guillermo del Toro started and was what kick-started his career in films.
An excellent twist on the vampire legend. - DirectorDanny BoyleStarsCillian MurphyNaomie HarrisChristopher EcclestonFour weeks after a mysterious, incurable virus spreads throughout the UK, a handful of survivors try to find sanctuary.28 Days Later was the first film that genuinely made me jump out of my seat. Sprinting zombies... wtf!
I shat myself numerous times as zombies never really scared me before as I would always say to myself "just run away".
Nowadays running zombies are all the craze, but this is the film that gave birth to that idea. - DirectorClive BarkerStarsAndrew RobinsonClare HigginsAshley LaurenceA woman discovers the newly resurrected, partially formed, body of her brother-in-law and lover. She starts killing for him to revitalize his body and escape the demonic beings that are pursuing him after he escaped their underworld.I watched this when I was about 13, and may explain why I'm such a doughnut today.
It never really scared me, but I was fascinated with the gore and just how twisted it all was.
A classic horror film. - DirectorKathryn BigelowStarsAdrian PasdarJenny WrightLance HenriksenA small-town farmer's son reluctantly joins a traveling group of vampires after he is bitten by a beautiful drifter. One of the earliest vampire films that I've seen and for some reason the idea of a vampire family drew me in.
Bad ass film with a bad ass Lance Henriksen. - DirectorErnest R. DickersonStarsBilly ZaneWilliam SadlerJada Pinkett SmithHigh-level demons collect low-level demons as warriors in attempt to obtain a key containing the blood of Christ. The key is guarded by immortal warriors called Demon Knights.I've got a thing for tongue-in-cheek horror, and this is probably my favourite of all the Tales from the Crypt films.
Not really scary, but a *beep* load of fun. - DirectorGeorge A. RomeroStarsDavid EmgeKen ForeeScott H. ReinigerDuring an escalating zombie epidemic, two Philadelphia SWAT team members, a traffic reporter and his TV executive girlfriend seek refuge in a secluded shopping mall.I love both versions of this film, but the original just edges is for me.
Although the 2004 remake in my opinion was scarier, the original was a lot more atmospheric and you actually gave a *beep* about what happened to the characters.
"When there's no more room in hell, the dead will walk the earth" - DirectorAlex ProyasStarsRufus SewellKiefer SutherlandJennifer ConnellyA man struggles with memories of his past, which include a wife he cannot remember and a nightmarish world no one else ever seems to wake up from.Insane sci-fi film and is probably the film that sparked my love for sci-fi.
- DirectorLuc BessonStarsBruce WillisMilla JovovichGary OldmanIn the colorful future, a cab driver unwittingly becomes the central figure in the search for a legendary cosmic weapon to keep Evil and Mr. Zorg at bay.Another gem from the mind of Luc Besson. This time an action-packed sci-fi extravaganza, very colourful and stylish.
Once again, Gary Oldman steals the show. - DirectorJoe WrightStarsSaoirse RonanCate BlanchettEric BanaA sixteen-year-old girl who was raised by her father to be the perfect assassin is dispatched on a mission across Europe, tracked by a ruthless intelligence agent and her operatives. An interesting take on the thriller/assassin theme with young 16 year old girl raised to be an assassin in order to track down her mothers killer.
To be honest, this film is partly on this list because I'm madly in love with Cate Blanchett.
Still a top film. - DirectorLuc BessonStarsJean RenoGary OldmanNatalie Portman12-year-old Mathilda is reluctantly taken in by Léon, a professional assassin, after her family is murdered. An unusual relationship forms as she becomes his protégée and learns the assassin's trade.Wow. A classic here from Luc Besson. This film takes you on a real roller-coaster and was Natalie Portman's breakthrough performance.
Once again, Gary Oldman steals the show... again. - DirectorChristopher NolanStarsGuy PearceCarrie-Anne MossJoe PantolianoA man with short-term memory loss attempts to track down his wife's murderer.Confused the hell out of me the first time I saw it, but that's probably because I'm a little slow.
The second viewing opened my eyes to how brilliant this film is... great story, great direction and great acting. - DirectorJean-Jacques AnnaudStarsJude LawEd HarrisJoseph FiennesA Russian and a German sniper play a game of cat-and-mouse during the Battle of Stalingrad.I know a lot of people don't really rate this film, but I enjoyed the cat and mouse aspect of it all, with the two snipers constantly trying to get the upper hand.
- DirectorJim JarmuschStarsJohnny DeppGary FarmerCrispin GloverOn the run after murdering a man, accountant William Blake encounters a strange Native American man named Nobody who prepares him for his journey into the spiritual world.I had to watch this film for my media studies course, and to be honest I wasn't really expecting much.
I've never been a huge fan of Johnny Depp, but this is probably his best performance to date.
A fascinating and spiritual western from the mind of Jim Jarmusch... I'd highly recommend it. - DirectorClint EastwoodStarsClint EastwoodGene HackmanMorgan FreemanRetired Old West gunslinger William Munny reluctantly takes on one last job, with the help of his old partner Ned Logan and a young man, The "Schofield Kid."Clint Eastwood. Morgan Freeman. Gene Hackman. Richard Harris.
With these four legends in one film, it had better be good! Not only was it good, but it was great. I loved this film, partly because I'm a big Richard Harris fan, but mainly because of Gene Hackman's performance.
Not your bog-standard western, but instead follows two-old timers who are well past their prime reuniting for one last job. - DirectorSergio LeoneStarsClint EastwoodGian Maria VolontèMarianne KochA wandering gunfighter plays two rival families against each other in a town torn apart by greed, pride, and revenge.Again I watched this for my course at college and just absolutely loved it.
An awesome and stylish western that doesn't bother with any of the Cowboys vs Indians crap that always used to put me off watching westerns. - DirectorFrank DarabontStarsThomas JaneMarcia Gay HardenLaurie HoldenA freak storm unleashes a species of bloodthirsty creatures on a small town, where a small band of citizens hole up in a supermarket and fight for their lives.
