- DirectorOxide Chun PangStarsRace WongRosanne WongAnson LeungJiney, an artist, witnesses a car crash. She photographs the victim, becoming obsessed with death. She receives a snuff video. Her friend Jas realizes it's real. Jiney gets another disturbing tape, leaving her terrified.A very disturbing film, and not just because of her growing obsession with death and death photography, but by the sheer brutality of the deaths themselves. Death by beating is not a pretty way to die. Is the detail of having all the flashes going off in your eyes while you are being beaten a metaphor for the harassment by the paparazzi? Who knows. It was a great effect and kept the victim disoriented.
Disturbing film in a good way. - DirectorPark Chan-wookStarsChoi Min-sikYoo Ji-taeKang Hye-jeongAfter being kidnapped and imprisoned for fifteen years, Oh Dae-Su is released, only to find that he must track down his captor in five days. One of the most unrelenting revenge movies I have ever seen. Every time you think it's gotten as bad as it can get a new aspect to the revenge plan is revealed.
You can totally relate to the one who had been wronged, but his revenge goes so far that you end up feeling more sorry for the one who wronged him. And given the ending, perhaps the "avenger" felt that way too. - DirectorStan WinstonStarsLance HenriksenJeff EastJohn D'AquinoAfter a tragic accident, a man conjures up a towering, vengeful demon called Pumpkinhead to destroy a group of unsuspecting teenagers. One of my very favorite horror films. On the surface it's a simple monster movie, perhaps even something of an "Aliens" knock-off. However, what makes all the difference is the characters and the way they react to the situation. You can feel pity for the teenagers since what happened truly was an accident, and you can understand why they run.
On the flip-side you can understand the father's (masterfully played as always by the great Lance Hendricksen) anger, rage, and despair.
So they are, to some degree, likable, or at least understandable, which gives us something to be emotionally vested in when the monster starts hunting. And these kids don't "split up", or run into the woods to have sex like in so many teen movies, they run, and try to keep running since they have a monster on their trail.
The monster itself, blissfully free of CGI, is well-done. If it feels a bit "puppety" at times, I can tell you truly I still would not want that thing chasing me.
Finally, the "twist ending", if it can even be called that, is both interesting, and sums up the whole theme of the movie which is about vengeance taken too far.
"God damn you!"
"He already has, Ed Harley, he already has."
That's dialogue, my friend! - DirectorEquan ChoiStarsNa Eun-kyeongJeon Ji-aeSeo Ji-hyeWhile training after hours in her high-school, the aspiring singer Park Young-Eon is mysteriously killed and her body vanishes. After the suicide of their music teacher Sun-min, aided by her mate Cho-Ah, they discover another student, Hyo-Jung, died in the same elevator trunk some time ago. Meanwhile Young-Eon recalls details of her life, disclosing why she died.

Then Nana and her friend Kanae start to come across various bizarre phenomena, including red fingerprints and a female spirit who 'lives' on the station platform. One day, Nana's younger sister is lost, and the only possibility seems to be that she had been taken by these spirits. The missing tracks. The predictions that a mysterious woman makes.

- DirectorSion SonoStarsRyo IshibashiMasatoshi NagaseMai HoshoA detective is trying to find the cause of a string of suicides.
- DirectorKyu-dong MinKim Tae-yongStarsKim Gyu-riPark YejinLee Yeong-jinIn this second installment of the Whispering Corridors series, a young girl finds a strange diary, capable of arousing hallucinations, kept by two of her senior fellow-students who seem to have an unusually close bond.I really like this movie. Of all the "Whispering Corridors" films, this one is the least like a straight horror and the most like a drama/tragedy. Basically the story is about the relationship between the smart, "artsy-but-weird" girl and the "jock", athletic, but more accepted girl. They are both well played by Young-jin Lee and Yeh-jin Park, who have wonderful chemistry on screen.
The film explores both the dark side of Korean boarding schools, where the students are abused (to a greater or lesser degree) both physically and psychologically by both teachers and other students. In addition, lesbian relationships are apparently very taboo in Korea, making the main characters' relationship that much more dangerous.
In fact, the Korean version of the film evidently included some more physical scenes of their love, as opposed to the version released in the US which, with the exception of one kiss, simply implies more.
The "horror" aspect only truly comes in at the end, leading some reviewers to feel it was just "tacked on". I disagree, feeling that the ghost story flows from the tragic events earlier on. Either way, however, the story is character-driven, even when it enters the realm of the supernatural. - DirectorKôji ShiraishiStarsJin MurakiRio KannoTomono KugaA documentary filmmaker explores seemingly unrelated paranormal incidents connected by the legend of an ancient demon called the "kagutaba."One of my all time favorite Asian horror films, and possible one of the of the top horror films ever. And all recorded low-budget with handhelds. The characters, the mystery, and cast made this a joy to watch. Which doesn't mean there are no shocking parts (The part in "graveyard" at the end? Brrrrrrrr.)
Possibly only Marebito passes this one as my favorite, but then this has a more coherent plot, so depends what your in the mood for. - DirectorTakashi ShimizuStarsNoriko SakaiChiharu NiiyamaKei HorieAs their curse spreads on, the ghosts find their chance to live once again through the pregnancy of a cursed woman.

- DirectorDanny PangOxide Chun PangStarsAngelica LeeChutcha RujinanonLawrence ChouA blind girl gets a cornea transplant so that she will be able to see again. She gets more than she bargained for upon realizing she can also see ghosts.
- DirectorJae-yeon YunStarsSong Ji-hyoPark Han-byeolJo AnA staircase leading to the dormitory of a remote boarding school usually has 28 stairs, but every so often there appears to be 29. When someone steps on the mysterious extra stair, the horror begins. In all the Whispering Corridor films there is a true tragedy, i.e., something that never should have been an issue in the first place. In this edition it's that the not as pretty or talented dancer is constantly overshadowed by her beautiful talented friend. To rub salt in the wound, her friend doesn't seem to hold her ballet abilities as all that important.
The tragedy comes when the lesser-talented dancer wishes to win. But to do that the competition must be eliminated. It's summed up in the line that the agonized girl utters towards the very end, in a tearful voice, "I just wanted to win something, just once".
