- DirectorStanley KubrickStarsKeir DulleaGary LockwoodWilliam SylvesterAfter uncovering a mysterious artifact buried beneath the Lunar surface, a spacecraft is sent to Jupiter to find its origins: a spacecraft manned by two men and the supercomputer HAL 9000.There really isn't any question about it. 2001: A Space Odyssey is indeed the best Science fiction film ever made. It's just so unique, with unbelievable visuals. There just isn't anything quite like it.
- DirectorRobert ZemeckisStarsJodie FosterMatthew McConaugheyTom SkerrittDr. Ellie Arroway, after years of searching, finds conclusive radio proof of extraterrestrial intelligence, sending plans for a mysterious machine. This is a very different form of science fiction. The story is basicly about how making Contact with extratterestrial life with affect the world. Jodie Foster stars as the astronomer who first recieves the extratterestrial signal.
- DirectorRidley ScottStarsHarrison FordRutger HauerSean YoungA blade runner must pursue and terminate four replicants who stole a ship in space and have returned to Earth to find their creator. The classic film by Ridley Scott, the brilliant director behind Alien. The film stars Harrison Ford as Rick Deckard, a "Blade Runner", hired to track down and kill "replicants".
- DirectorRidley ScottStarsSigourney WeaverTom SkerrittJohn HurtThe crew of a commercial spacecraft encounters a deadly lifeform after investigating a mysterious transmission of unknown origin.Ridley Scott's masterpiece. This film has a fairly simple plot, the crew of a spaceship find themselves having to deal with an unstoppable and unknown extraterrestrial life-form that's picking them off one by one.
Leading the film is Sigourney Weaver, in her first major film role. Also starring are John Hurt (Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull), Harry Dean Stanton (The Green Mile), Veronica Cartwright (The Right Stuff, The Birds), Yaphet Kotto (The Running Man), Tom Skerrit (Contact, M*A*S*H), and Ian Holm (The Lord of the Rings, Ratatouille). - DirectorJames CameronStarsSam WorthingtonZoe SaldanaSigourney WeaverA paraplegic Marine dispatched to the moon Pandora on a unique mission becomes torn between following his orders and protecting the world he feels is his home.I've heard a lot of people say negative things about this film from James Cameron (Titanic, Terminator, The Abyss, Aliens). Contrary to popular belief, Avatar is actually a pretty creative and brilliant movie.
The film's plot is fairly straightforward, I have heard people call it things like Pocahontas or Dances with Wolves in Space (technically that's not an accurate description, as it does not actually take place "in space", but on an alien planet). It does have some similarities to both stories, and could very well have drawn inspiration from them, but that's what makes the film work so well. - DirectorNeill BlomkampStarsSharlto CopleyDavid JamesJason CopeViolence ensues after an extraterrestrial race forced to live in slum-like conditions on Earth finds a kindred spirit in a government agent exposed to their biotechnology.Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings) is can be said to be a genius. He is indeed one of the best directors along with Ridley Scott and James Cameron. This is a good example of what he is capable of.
District 9 is a dark and very creative film. It is written as a documentary, about a mysterious species of aliens who find themselves stranded on Earth. More specifically, South Africa, where they are forced to live in harsh camps.
The protagonist of the film is a young man who is accidently infected by a mysterious substance that slowly turns him into one of these aliens. Suddenly he's betrayed by humanity, who want to use him to understand the alien weapons.
