- DirectorChristopher NolanStarsGuy PearceCarrie-Anne MossJoe PantolianoA man with short-term memory loss attempts to track down his wife's murderer.Who would have thought a film in which the entire plot works backwards could work so well. This is indeed an unusual movie.
The plot of the film has a very unusual structure, in that much of it actually works backwards, with black-and-white segments in between. The black-and-white segments are shown chronologically, while the scenes in colour are actually shown backwards. The film literally begins where the plot ends, and ends where the story begins.
Of course my description may be confusing you somewhat. This is one of those films you really have to see to believe, once you see it, everything I have said about it will make sense. - DirectorStanley KubrickStarsKeir DulleaGary LockwoodWilliam SylvesterAfter uncovering a mysterious artifact buried beneath the Lunar surface, a spacecraft is sent to Jupiter to find its origins: a spacecraft manned by two men and the supercomputer HAL 9000.Technically, a number of Stanley Kubrick's films could qualify for this list, but for the sake of simplicity, I decided to use this one. 2001: A Space Odyssey remains one of the most brilliant, and unusual science fiction films ever made. It has such a unique style to it, and even by today's standards, contains impossibly brilliant visuals.
The visuals, the music, the lack of dialogue, and its strange and interpretive plot, were incredible when it was released and are still impressive today.
There is just nothing like it, and to this day, this film remains one of the greatest movies ever made. - DirectorTerry GilliamStarsJohn NevilleEric IdleSarah PolleyAn account of Baron Munchausen's supposed travels and fantastical experiences across late 18th-century Europe with his band of misfits.Again, Terry Gilliam is another good example of a director who specializes in unusual films. The Adventures of Baron Munchausen is a good example of this.
The film is inspired by a German folk hero named Baron Munchausen. The plot involves the baron, played by John Neville, who arrives in a small town being invaded by the Turkish army, where he inturrupts a play about his adventures. He then tells them one of his stories before the town falls under siege.
The Baron's solution? Ride a cannonball of course!!! The Baron then flies to the moon in a hot-air baloon made of dirty underwear and a stage prop, and with assistance from a young girl named Sally Salt, proceeds to do a number of other impossible things as he attempts to get together his friends who also have impossible skills.
This is a film that really questions reality, especially at the end. It is a very strange film, and I love it. This is definitely one I'd reccommend. - DirectorJames CameronStarsSam WorthingtonZoe SaldanaSigourney WeaverA paraplegic Marine dispatched to the moon Pandora on a unique mission becomes torn between following his orders and protecting the world he feels is his home.I know a lot of people have said otherwise, but James Cameron's Avatar is actually a pretty unusual film. Who would have thought taking the basic idea of Dances with Wolves, and setting it on an alien planet would be the set-up for a brilliant movie.
The film is best known for its CGI, but it actually does have a well-written story to it. The characters are fairly well developed, and it provides an interesting blend of science and spirituality.
