- Forrest Bedford is a Southern lawyer in the late 1950s, generally content with his privileged life.
- This hour-long dramatic comedy featured American medical students undergoing their training on a tropical island.
- Lilly Taylor returns to her hometown for the first time in thirty years, where she remembers the dramatic events that led to her leaving, and learns what became of the Bedford family she used to work for.

- The police interrogate Paul Slocum about Parkie's alleged rape. He turns to Forrest for legal advice. Lilly throws a birthday party for Lewis that turns into a political debate when his nephew Oscar clashes with her and Christina is pressured by her mother Beth to date other men.
- Nathan takes his driver's license exam. Lily questions the motives of Mimi, a civil rights protester, touring the area in a "Freedom Bus". Meanwhile, Forrest visits Washington, D.C., where he meets up with Christina.
- The townspeople decide to teach Forrest a lesson, while Nathan wants to know the reason behind Forrest and Lake's falling-out.
- Forrest's affair with Christina is causing friction and he realizes he may have to end it just as he is preparing to take the job of U.S. Attorney. Cool Papa returns one last time for Lilly but ends up going to New York without her.
- Forrest finally gets his grand jury indictment against the murders of Colonel Landers with the testimony of shopkeeper Curtis Barnett. Meanwhile, Forrest and Christina go away for the weekend but it doesn't work out too well and Lily protests outside a racist shopkeepers store.
- Forrest tells Christina that Gwen is coming home from hospital. Francie asks Forrest if she can throw a party and invite boys from her class. Next day at school Donnie Shackleford tells her that he didn't go to her party because he didn't want to be matched up with her friend Miranda and that he likes her instead. Meanwhile, the FBI question Lily about Forrest as he prepares to become US Attorney and a black army officer, Colonel Landers, is shot dead whilst traveling in his car by three trouble-making white men.
- Lily's ex husband Walter Harper comes back to town with his fiancée Rose in tow. Francis' undercover mission into the Ku Klux clan yields information on the 3 murderers of Colonel Landers but puts Francis in extreme danger. Meanwhile, Christina struggles to defend Paul against his rape charge.
- John Morgan shows his jealous side to Lilly's lover Joe Clay. Nathan is arrested on a wrongful drug charge and Forrest wins his murder case of Colonel Landers' wrongful death by two Ku Klux Klansmen.
- Jerry Blount confesses to the murder of Colonel Landers which enables Forrest to release Francis from jail. Elsewhere, Lilly falls for a train porter named Joe Clay.
- Parker tells Slocum's parents that she's pregnant and Slocum's not pleased. His girlfriend Cookie tells him to deal with it and stop embarrassing her. Lewis takes Adlaine to a Shriners meeting without Lilly's consent. Meanwhile, after Gwen's funeral Forrest allows Lake Stevens to console the children and the love affair between Forrest and Christina looks like being renewed.

- Joel has to talk a park ranger out of a fire tower. Maurice plans a fireworks show, but has objections from Adam. Ed gets struck by lightning.
- Michelle decides to put on the play, Bus Stop, but is running into problems: Ron bribes her to cast Erick in a role; Holling gets drunk during rehearsals; Chris cannot kiss Maggie and Shelly is jealous of not getting the lead female role.
- The law catches up with Chris when the authorities begin setting up an extraction to have him turned in to the West Virginia police for violating parole.
- Chris tries to get a pilot license. Ed discovers an old diary and learns an disturbing fact. Marilyn acts as a sleuth.
- In an alternate reality, Fleishman is married to Shelly, Maggie is his nanny, Ruth Ann is a prominent physician whom he seeks partnership with, Chris tries to jump off a building and Maurice walks into their dinner party gun in hand.
- A semi-retired KGB agent arrives in Cicely and reveals to Maurice that he once divulged some classified information. Holling finds a great nuisance in a health-care inspector who gives him some instructions to clean The Brick.
- Ed's spirit guide returns claiming to have found the identity of Ed's father. Maggie and Mike grow closer. An itinerant, blind piano tuner shows up at the Brick.
- Maggie regrets her auction donation and attempts to buy the item back from Chris, Shelly wakes up in Miranda's doll house to find Ruth Ann portraying the original owner, and Ed, turned P.I., films Hayden committing insurance fraud.
- Marilyn's family (Whirlwind) totem is unveiled and causes a feud. Shelley has hallucinations of dancers. Joel grows jealous over Mike and Maggie.
- Cicely begins to winterize as the first snow comes. One of Joel's patients tells him she's going to die. Shelley tells a terrible lie.
- Joel hooks a legendary fish. Ruth Anne runs off on Chris's motorcycle and runs with a motorcycle gang. Holling has an artistic crisis.
- Maurice mentors his young visiting cousin also named Maurice; Dr Fleischman & Maggie get stuck on a grounded, smoking plane to Russia and Chris becomes absorbed in electricity science projects.
- Maurice sponsors a wheel chair race. Ed takes on a case as a shaman. Marilyn's boyfriend Ted takes a job and becomes obsessed with money and success, which causes a rift.

- A rock musician (played by Adam Ant) accidentally arrives in Cicely, creating quite a stir-up among the locals. While Ed makes a documentary about the visit, Chris has trouble deciding how to put an old friend to his final rest.
- Shelley decides to redecorate. Mike is cured and decides to leave Maggie and Cicely to work for Greenpeace.
- Dr. Capra fights Maurice over an additive in his Cicely water which is making women lustful & aggressive and causing men to act like women. Joel, officially freed from his AK contract fights Shelly for his tapes that she has usurped.
- Ron and Eric plan their wedding, Holling is hired to cater, Maggie begins to experience earthquakes and Joel peeks inside Marilyn's diary.
- Strange winds from the east blow in some strange behavior. Maggie attacks Joel. Chris saves Maurice's life. Maurice figures out he can't live with it.
