Extreme Cheapskates: Kate (2012)
Episode is actually only 20 minutes.
Yeah for some reason the episode length time is over 40 mins but nope, we only get a twenty minute insight into Kate's life. Yeah she has her friend and his girlfriend come visit and idk why she thought it was okay to feed them garbage food without telling them it CAME FROM the garbage, but it happens. I wonder if she's mentally ill. No one challengers her. Her poor friend cares but like hey if Kate is happy then why change what ain't broken. She goes around garbage picking but I wonder what she does with the money. The show doesn't go too in depth about why these people are these way. But I liked the episode.
Girls: All I Ever Wanted (2017)
The final season
Sooo, I guess they didn't want to keep paying Pete from The Office. I liked how season 5 ended with her kinda' happy (Hannah). But nope. They had to take that away.
The fast talking girl (Shoshanna) barely shows up, she's in Japan for work. I think Japan... Adam and Jessa are together.
Hannah has a one night stand but ends up pregnant (with Riz Ahmed). She's actually all successful with her writings and even had some success with her essay on Jessa and Adam.
Meanwhile Jessa and Adam are gonna' direct a movie about Adam and Hannah. It's neat seeing that Jessa just wants to tell a story about a bat-bleep crazy bat but Adam believes it to be more complex than just "she sucked in the relationship." Ray and Marnie are dating post Marnie's divorce but Ray is quickly noticing her disinterest in anything but herself.
The final episode did not feel like a final episode. I think it's supposed to be like Hannah is transitioning into womanhood now that she has her kid but Marnie being overbearing was an odd plot point that felt like it needed more closure.
D for darling girls.
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007)
Blood arcs
This movie is funnnnn for being about such twisted things. Tim Burton directed this nonsense but man it's got perfect Tim Burton moods. It's like creepy enough that it takes itself seriously too. After a while the barbershop starts in full swing and blood flies everywhere. It's so vibrant and sprays in such large arcs. It's lovely.
The songs are quite nice too, just very catchy. Oh! And that part where Alan Rickman is humming but also going bum-bum-bum bum-bum-bum is nice. It's breaking the fourth wall, maybe, but like in a play everyone is singing away non-stop so I guess it's normal. Helena's beach song is nice. That JOAAAANNNA song is very nice.
That magician dude played by Sacha Baron Cohen is very interesting, just getting to know his character, I mean. And I think at this point he was known mainly for Borat so I think people liked that he was trying out a straightforward role.
Yeah it's got good actors, good set-up, ending, it's all twisted and a great time.
A for an amazing haircut.
Zombies (2018)
I don't want to talk about this
I thought it would ~try~ to be a little scary, even campy. But no, it was straight family friendly. Lots of family cheer.
So in this world, a zombie outbreak happened 50 years ago. They cured it.
For the cure, they just have to wear a bracelet. Sounds risky. Cuz the bracelet could malfunction at any time. Which is what happens when someone hacks the equipment. At least I think that happens. I can't be certain. I couldn't pay attention.
The plot is essentially about some cheer competitions.
And about accepting those that are different.
...but-what-happens-if-things-gets-REAL!? What if the bracelet messes up and 28 Weeks Later happens to this beautiful town?
F for false zombies.
Platoon (1986)
Platoon
I remember I was really sick at home. So, okay, I remember loving this movie when I first saw it in my teen times. I was way into Vietnam but nowwwwww...
I see this movie as just a mess. Was there a big mission? Did the soldiers have to overcome anything as a unit or separately? Exaaaactly.
Oliver Stone apparently screamed at actors (i.e. Johnny Depp) for not believing their performances so he would be doing take after take after take. Just to try to get the performance.
Buuut when he's using actual foreigners for the citizens' death scenes, it's obvious he doesn't care about their acting. "Vietnam man/woman fall down? Good, that's all I need."
Willem Dafoe acting his heart out. To die. It's fine.
D cuz just cuz I'm jaded now doesn't mean it's not good. I just... can't figure out anymore why it's good.
Eighth Grade (2018)
The mild spoiler is that there's a pool scene.
Bo Burnham is an absolute genius. His stand-up is jst so flipping clever and his songs are catchy, super quick witted, and best of all, super fun.
So this movie is about a girl during her last week of 8th grade. She's not the most popular girl, yet she makes YouTube videos for <5 followers. She tries to be nice & include everyone but people just don't vibe with her. She has a super sweet dad and we don't see the mom at all but it doesn't matter.
When she's invited in to the pool party, we are shown an amazing view into the life of an unpopular girl entering a cool party. Actually, even the first scene, an honest and raw vlog, is so good - - complete with her 'um's and unsureness. Furthermore about the pool scene, what an awesome time to use a slow motion scene. It draws the scene out but in a really good way because it makes you feel the panic & terror that she's going through entering the party.
There's a nice Lebron James vine reference in here. Also a nice Dab reference. IDK why i capitalized a dab.
This girl does such a good job playing the slouchy sad girl and, who knows, maybe she is sad like that, but in interviews she presents as well spoken and confident, so I'm gonna' say she is a good actress. Yeah, cuz that shyness does go away.
Her meeting that boy at that pool party is great, and so is their date with the whole chicken nuggets scenario.
A+ for ascending to high school.
Blade: Trinity (2004)
Classy.
I reeeeally liked this movie at first. I guess I was a lot younger. It's like they were trying to pass the torch to the next generation, being Ryan Reynolds and Jessica Biel. Biel is Whistler's daughter. Reynolds was a vampire cured? Or...he's an ex-vampire. I JUST watched it & I can't remember what his vamp deal was. But that's their deal. Blade & Jessica just try to out-Blade one another; stoic glances, minimal emotions on their sleeve. Ryan is just doing a typical Ryan Reynolds approach, so much so that the movie even OPENS with Ryan Reynolds voiceover! Like, what is this? Deadpool 2?? Detective Pikachu?!? like really, why the voice over!!!??? Triple H & Parker Posey are the bad vampires and they suuuck. I can always tell how her teeth are getting in the way of her speech. HHH says lines like, "They (effing) (b)-(r)'d us.!" Classy. I think it's called Trinity because it's the 3rd movie in the series and there are 3 main heroes. Right. So. But, okay though, but why "Trinity"???? So weird. Patton Oswalt says like 3 lines, no trinity pun intended, and only one line is half funny. Dominic something plays Drake who's Dracula. It's THE main vampire and he's very underwhelming. He has a big plan, kills Patton, Natasha Lyonne, and more and then our heroes who were never meant to die make it out and defeat him. Some jokes are made, they mostly fall flat. The lawyer from Arrested Development shows up as a lawyer for vampires. Yeah man, it's lame. D for Drakeula.
Ghost Adventures: Linda Vista Hospital (2009)
Perfect Cringe
This episode is fantastic because of what happens during the pre-investigation. In the cold open they show Nick getting startled by something and if you missed it then don't worry because you'll be seeing it a dozen times during the episode. These guys are giant scaredy cats in every episode but the way nick squealed and flailed about was extra scaredy cat. He apparently sees a figure and, hey, I'm sure I would scream like a woman too but I'm not a ghost adventurer.
As the guys are doing their pre-lockdown walkthrough with staff and eyewitnesses, Zack comes across a hospital glove that supposedly has been there since the hospital was open. Not sure why but Zack thinks it'd be funny to, well, throw the glove right at his cameraman, Aaron's, face. They don't talk about it again. Zack says, "Payback is a bi**h," but he doesn't do anything about it within the episode. I'm sure if my boss threw an unsanitary glove right at my face I would take it like a pleeb as well.
And to add to that, Zack reaches right into a cremation oven before the glove incident and he acts like Mr. Monk looking for hand sanitizer or soap.
They then talk to a young woman who has been scratched in the hospital and Zack "turns on" the charm. He mentions how it would be a good first date question to ask if they've been scratched by ghosts and awkwardly/jokingly/totally not jokingly asks her if she wants to get dinner later. It's chaos cringe incarnate complete with her mentioning that she's not like other girls because she is a 5'3'' southerner who is gonna out climb the G.A.C. as they descended the stairs during their tour of the grounds.
Hoarders: Beverly/Megan (2011)
Just a little boring
I love this show but this episode didn't do it for me. Something just wasn't excited. The drama seemed underwhelming and even the clean-up was bland. The family living in the hotel seemed nice enough but essentially just laziness took over their lives. The other family was a bland case of hoarding. I know that's weird to say because the disease itself is such an ordeal but just imagine the blandest case. Hoarders more like boarders.
Empires: The Greeks - Crucible of Civilization (2000)
Liam
Liam Neeson has such a wonderful voice. What a grand man he is.
I'm sure this documentary is good for some people but I'm not the audience for this movie. Series. Whatever it is. They reuse a LOT of footage that they shot; like, actors in their costumes. It just loses its flair after the 4th time I've seen that man in that costume point over there four times.
