Oppenheimer (I) (2023)

Great idea with disappointing execution
1 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The first hour and a half felt like a fast paced movie trailer, not the actual movie. I kept waiting for the intense music and the fast scenes changing to stop, but it just didn't. It was very chaotic and made it rather hard to remember characters and get a deeper understanding of interpersonal relationships. For example, we were shown that Oppenheimer had a complicated romantic relationship with a communist woman but as an audience we never got to experience it with them, and thus, it just felt flat. I guess, the fast pacing was supposed to represent the countdown to the detonation but it was just extremely annoying to follow.

Then, we have the biggest letdown of the movie - the atomic bomb, which definitely needed CGI, and I even wondered if that was THE THING that was so widely advertised. I was waiting for the movie to show Heroshima or Nagasaki and hoped that maybe there we will see the THE THING. But no. There wasn't a spectacular bomb detonation.

The movie after that becomes just extremely slow paced.

Another big letdown is the IMAX experience. It was so widely advertised that we HAVE to see it on the biggest screen possible but the truth is, the IMAX screen doesn't add anything to the movie. It can be just as easily watched on a smaller screen and it would feel the exact same way.

The idea is great, the moral undertones are what is expected from a movie about the atom bomb, but the execution is just... disappointing. It sparks good conversations but the movie experience is just not enjoyable.

Makes you think
30 July 2023
The movie is great. Everyone says it's very preachy but I actually think the societal expose is done in a very tasteful manner. It makes you think about the world we live in and points out ridiculous things that have always been there but we never paid attention to - for example, why most cash has famous men on them, and not one woman (with some exceptions around the world, of course). It also presents Ken the way women have been portrayed in movies since the beginning of the movie industry - clingy, confused, a bit inadequate, annoying, etc.

It's smart, it's very funny, it's interesting and it deserves the hype.

I'm so confused... did we all watch the same movie?
22 August 2022
What is all this hype about? The movie is full of clichés and banal lines. It is exactly the script you would expect from a movie called "top gun"... it is about guns... on planes. It's predictable. The soundtrack of this movie sounds like the Spotify today's top hits playlist. And the woman love interest. How is she always there? Why is she there? Just so cliché.

I am positively surprised by Tom Cruise though. His acting is great in this movie.

Infinity War after a Few Drinks
18 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
There are some very great things about the movie. We get to learn more about characters that were kind of in the background before - the flash and the cyborg. Also, the colors of the movie were amazing. This movie extended the DCEU and was 100% better than the last one. But was it good? Well, here we can argue.

First of all, there were so many things happening that didn't need to happen and so many things that were left unexplained. For example, why did Bruce decide to assemble a team without a treat? I have titled this review "infinity war after a few drinks" because there were so many similarities between this movie and the last two Marvel Avengers movies. For instance, the time travel thing that was a little bit unexplained here. The ancient power that needed its pieces to be reunited so that the bad guy can do his thing. The big bad guy that kind of looked like Thanos first sending his minions (the big one being with an axe) to do his job. Cyborg who for some reason was made to act a lot like Vision. The scenes and places constantly changing but chaotically. The movie ending with a speech prerecorded by a dead father. Next villain being teased as someone who is angry at the rich guy with the tech (basically half of Marvel villains just have a problem with Tony Stark) and then uniting with the hero to save the timeline (here I refer to Deadpool). The similarities were so many. And yes, I understand the scenes were shot before Endgame and Infinity war came out, but with a little editing I don't believe the resemblance would have been so uncanny.

In addition, Arthur and Diana were there but also - not really helping that much. Especially Arthur. Which is sad considering he has become the DC movie fans favorite superhero. And... Superman... what exactly did he do? Why did they need him when Barry was the one who saved the day with the help of the Cyborg.

Also, I don't know how I feel about Amber Heard appearing in the movie. And the music was kind of weird at times.

Overall, it was a movie I enjoyed watching although at times I couldn't understand why some scenes needed to be THAT long. Definitely an upgrade and a much needed movie in this pandemic. We miss superheroes, but maybe not these ones.

it is not as bad as people tell you it is
21 December 2020
Honestly, I get that people are angry that this movie feeds into the fear narrative of our current situation but I actually think it is not supposed to scare you but show you that things can be waaayyy worse. I liked the fact that they focus on several people's lives and thus, several aspects of this apocalyptic word. This gives an overview of what the creators of the movie imagined the world could look like. I agree that some parts of the script are kinda dumb, but overall I believe it deserves more than its imdb score and most of the reviews here.

It is as relatable as Riverdale
14 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The show is really good and its amazing how the writers made sure that every character has good and bad traits, so they seem like normal people. I like the fact that there are many situations that the viewer can relate to like fighting for grades and falling in love with the wrong person. It is impoartant to acknowledge the amont of recognition that different society groups receive. Especially the muslim community, which is rarely a thing in modern day TV. With that being said, there are so many other situations that are so unbelievable and forced. Also, they reused the idea of Polo's relationship with two other people in two seasons. And as any other young adult show, teenagers are unbelievably powerful, brave, have connections with drug cartels, and are absolutely capable of running companies and fooling the police. Like that's how it is in the real world! I mean, don't get me wrong, the show is good, but I also believe that a lot of its fame comes from the fact that it's in Spanish. Imagine it being an American TV show - not so many people would watch it. Still, I would definitely recommend it.

I expected more
8 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The movie was cute but that's basically it. It doesn't really have breathtaking plot twists, an amazing plot or anything. It's just a cute story that is delievered by two good actors. Although we really need to acknowledge the fact that the mom was curvy and the female bull with the wings had a very empowering journey... It was cute.

It's actually not that bad
29 March 2020
I don't even like the Star Wars franchise and I completely agree that the last few movies have been kinda dumb, but this one was actually good. The beginning was weak, but after the first hour it gets interesting. I guess it wasn't as glorious as one would expect this movie to be, but I liked the idea of emphasizing more on the feelings of the characters. I don't understand though why people say it's the last one - didn't Star Wars hire Kevin Feige to develop the franchise? So, I guess the fans can expect something better to come out soon.

That '70s Show (1998–2006)

Literally THE BEST SITCOM EVER
14 March 2020
I can't tell you how much joy this TV show has brought me. Besides having amazing characters and capturing the 70s atmosphere, it's just honestly funny. It doesn't just make fun of the situations, in which the characters are, but of life in general and of things that we can all relate to. What I like best is the fact the plot develops and almost no episode is unrelated to the previous ones or is not developed in the next ones. It's like a normal TV series, but funny. Thus, I believe it's so much better than other sitcoms like Friends, where the plot develops in like 4 episodes a season. It's just so cool.

The most overrated show I have ever watched
13 March 2020
I have never watched something so unfunny, fake and weird. I wanted to see what the hype was about and didn't stop watching it even when I thought that it can't get any worse. I saw all the seasons because everyone kept saying that it will get better. Well, it didn't. The characters are so fake (especially Joey). For the longest time I believed that I just didn't like sitcoms before I found some other shows that were actually interesting and in which the story was developing not only during the first two and the last two episodes of the season. Honestly, I don't get it. I sincerely do not understand why this show is so popular even today when we truly have some really good series and sitcoms.

Don't confuse great performance with a great movie
19 October 2019
I rarely write reviews but I felt the need to write one for this movie just to tell everyone that it doesn't even nearly live up to its hype. Yes, the actor's performance is undoubtedly amazing and he deserves an Oscar, but the movie itself was kind of boring. The whole time you know what is going to happen, there is nothing, and I mean nothing, that is unexpected about the plot. It is a movie charged with so much negative energy that you end up leaving the theater being emotionally drained. It has a good message though but so do many other movies as well. The only reason why I gave the movie 7/10 and not 5 or 6 is because the actor truly did a good job. After this movie, I can only hope that Robert Pattinson's Batman will contain not only good acting but good writing.
