Das Signal (2024)
Das missing good screenwriter
I really liked the earlier German series, and since sci-fi is my favourite genre, I thought this would be good. But this is not even close to the sci-fi series Dark, a feeble attempt that had potential. But it seems that for this series, they couldn't find a screenwriter who could write decent, believable dialogue and plot, and who was at least somewhat familiar with the basics of space exploration. When a billionaire-funded experiment takes place on the International Space Station, the chosen people do not travel there as if they were getting on a bus, but are subjected to strict requirements. The astronaut must not be under psychological treatment, nor must he have had such a problem before - you must not spoil a story with something so stupid. Space travel is not a field for unpredictable people - the stress is very high, which does not allow such a thing. Obviously, this stress can cause psychological problems in a healthy person, but let's not put someone into space who is already unstable. This is just the first blunder in the story - and there are countless others, but I won't even list them. Please, someone find a decent script, because it's just awful what Netflix is spending all this money on.
The Son (2022)
great drama that takes its cues from life.
Depression is a very insidious disease, anyone who has not had it or has not had a family member, especially a child, who has suffered from it, will find it difficult to understand what was (or would have been) the most difficult decision to make in this film. The story is so realistic that many of us can relate to our own fate from it. This process is exactly the same in life, there is no difference; there are parents who don't notice things and there are parents who, thank goodness, do. The important thing is always that if someone asks for help, they get it, they get it from a professional. I think it's a great drama that takes its cues from life.
True Detective: Night Country: Part 1 (2024)
Full of cliches and predictable moves
I was so looking forward to this series because when I heard Jody Foster's name I thought the legendary series was saved! And no. It's a pretty mediocre start, full of clichés, every move is predictable. And at times it gets boring, and Foster couldn't save it. I watched it again to see if I could find what I was missing, but there was nothing in it, just over-expectations. I don't think resurrecting such an iconic series is easy - what the predecessors have put down is hard to balance. But I'll give it a chance, if the director takes a different style for the second part... the chances are there, though I suppose not that much.
Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire (2023)
Good that he did not do the Star Wars episode :)
This is ridiculous. So odd dialogues, so bad writing, so many Star Wars element ( but so badly made), and sooooo boring. Everything is predictable, and it is like from other movies ( dirty dozen- when they gathering the solders, end even the wwII type nazi costumes)... only positive part is the fighting scenes with reasonably good choreography.
I don't wait for the part 2 at all, although I am a big sf fan watching every sf movies coming to the theaters or streaming.
Something seriously went wrong with this movie: it is lacking soul, it is like an empty rag doll without the stuffing, trying to walk but all the time loosing the balance...
The Mandalorian: Chapter 18: The Mines of Mandalore (2023)
This is the way - the screenwriter should continue
This is the way the writer should use his pen, because this episode was full of nice memories bringing back the old Star Wars feelings, although I still wants to emphasize that the writer must do more logical screenwriting, and don't make stupid mistakes.
As mando descends to the planet he mentions that due to the strong magnetic fields and the use of that type of bombs there won't be chance to contact with the reinforcement ( clear, so they are on their own, no help). Then when they started to descend into the deep he also says from there they are alone, they can only count on themselves. Yeah, previously he said the same when he landed.
When grogu goes back to the fighter having a help, he faces with a huge anthropomorphic creature ( much larger than him) at the opening of the cave - he simply kills the gig wit a force. But when he comes back with Bo-Katan he stops at the cave when he sees a small lizard ( certainly a bit bigger than him). He is frightened- he must have amnesia that he killed that other double door sized monster...
C'mon screenwriter you can do better. There is a way.
The Mandalorian: Chapter 17: The Apostate (2023)
Where is the screenwriter of the first series?
What an average start... we did not use to this, c'mon. Several story telling glitches, it almost like a complete beginner made that episode.
The mandalorians having a nice ritual with the newest mando in a lake, when a huge crocodile comes out of the water, the boy standing in the water in knee deep if I remember, so if a huge croc like that comes to the shore it certainly will be visible. If not, the water should be very deep right behind the boy, that nobody noticed it is coming.
Then when it is finally there, all mandos start to shoot on that creature, but these effort looks so harmless. Then what do they do? They use their harpoons... I guess they did not see Tarzan, when the croc starts its death turns... it was so predictable.
So all these efforts were useless, they actually had no weapons against it. And what they should do from the beginning? Use the jet pack, save the boy and others in the water...
I know it should create a tension and so on... but on that seen all mandalorians were as capable to fight as the storm troopers.
One and only hope was the star fighter fights among the asteroids...
The Watcher (2022)
The real story much more exciting
The first few episodes was good but after it became so predictable and ridiculously intricate - a total waste of time. As I watched it seemed like an Agatha Christie novel with very schematic ideas. After the 5th episode it really gone mad with the useless twist and it was not exciting at all - became ridiculous. Why do they need to adopt a real story and make something which is far from that?
Read the real story which is way more exciting than this. The real story is much more frightening - a good screenwriter could do better than this. Few years ago when I read I expected that there will be a documentary series about that - but I hoped a better solution.
The Lie (2018)
Good twist and turns
A typical psychological drama about how the parents would react and protect the child- but good twist and turns.
I'm Your Woman (2020)
Very good gangster movie
Good atmosphere, good story, loved it. I missed something from the seventeenth, so it was a right on time for me.
The Sinner: Part VIII (2020)
Good start, good acting - the script was badly developed
I think the a writers should feel when they should do something when they loose the attention... it just happened 3 episode before the end. Simply too long, and boring.
I loved the the first and the second but this was really less then average. Just suffer through till the end.
