In the Army Now (1994)
Better than I remember
It's because this movie turned me onto Live (The Dam At Otter Creek) the song that plays while they are roaming through the desert.
I didn't know Paul Mooney had a bit role in this until I watched it again.
If you hate Pauly Shore (who isn't bad in this) you should at least like Lori Petty, Andy Dick, David Alan Grier and Lynn Whitfield.
Atari: Game Over (2014)
Too Acute of a documentary
My earliest memory was Pac-Man in the video arcades. So, even though the 2600 was innovative, true video game addicts knew how bad EVERY game was for the 2600. It wasn't until the 5200 that the console really improved: Pac-Man looked like Pac-Man/Centipede looked identical to the arcade game AND had a track ball accessory to improve it! I never played E.T. and so I don't care to comment on it. I don't understand why they focused so much on this topic without talking about so many other facets of Atari. How did they go down with the success of arcade games and the 5200? Remember, this was the first home console that not only resembled the actual arcade games but had a PAUSE as well! The best feature ever! Plus, it's hard to have empathy for a designer that had so much ego that it blinded the reality of coming out with a hit game, in a fraction of the time it took previously, that would be of any quality. I have to give it a low rating because it spent too much time on this excavation.
The Incredible Burt Wonderstone (2013)
waste a buck and 1/2 & two hours of your life
Everyone is great in this film. There aren't any dick jokes - just a lot satire and sarcasm. Jim Carrey is hilarious once again, but you might not appreciate him if you've never seen Blaine or Angel. This movie is as unrealistic as magic shows. The two kids at the beginning should have had more screen time; they were brilliant. It has a great message for fans and performers. There is a lot of subtle social commentary and criticism. Your life isn't more valuable than the 2 hours this movie could consume ;-) .... Make this review of mine disappear! So now because of the IMDb ridiculous guidelines, I don't have enough lines - - This feels like elementary school guidelines. Very few people will read 10 lines of a review...so here's a quote from the movie ("your skin makes me cry")
The Muppets (2011)
Do the muppets owe taxes and need another movie because of this?
It's bad enough when you watch human actors doing a movie or a sequel that is obviously being done out of an ulterior motive, but with a bunch of F-in muppets?!?! Does the Henson estate owe taxes or are they losing their property? (which is the ridiculous premise of this movie) I really thought Segel would have done something special with this because of all of the attention given to his interests in this field and the fact that he put together a muppet-type play of his own. No! And!, he had someone help him with it as well (Stoller). I was even in a good mood when I rented it, expecting a new revitalized movie from a zealot in this field of entertainment. A random pick out of a lottery ball of kids' scripts would have been better than this, and because of this, my interest in Segel went far down. Cameos and "you sing it, audience!" are sure signs that the artist isn't secure with what is being performed and there are so many cameos that it even outshines the completely apathetic humor. Statler and Waldorf couldn't even trash this movie properly, and it's too bad because all of the resources were there.
Amadeus (1984)
salieri is better than the exorcist
The best parts of this movie are between Salieri and the priest. The priest is more disturbed at the end of this movie than the priest at the end of the exorcist. If you thought the movie was contrary to the reality of Mozart's life, then it is only your fixed sentimentality's that are being offended. Abraham's character is brilliantly disturbed to the point of genius in this role. Whether or not it went down like this is pointless to the dynamics of the acting in this film. The recessional at the end of the film is one of the best endings I have ever seen. Oh IMDb do you really want a long winded review? and you need to update your spell check you dumb knobs.
Black Swan (2010)
The use of the word cliché is becoming a cliché
This is more of a review of the reviews I have read about Black Swan on IMDb.
A cliché is often a vivid depiction of an abstraction that relies upon analogy or exaggeration for effect. One could simply say this whole movie was based on this and then say this about any exaggerated or simple story. Black Swan was a cliché: a very pretty and disturbing one.
I've read a lot of comments that have compared this movie to pornography. There were no scenes of genitalia, erections, penetration or vulgar dialogue and delivery boys. The sex scene between Portman and Kunis was about a minute and was gratuitous (is gratuity a negative thing??) and could have been longer which would have even more gratified my unnecessary and clichéd sense of entertainment. It wasn't unnecessary. Nina's lack of sexual experience and fragile idealism is contradicted by the sexual aggressiveness and perceived debauchery of her mentors and peers and as a result she tries to expand her experiences as much as she can handle. This, in combination with her own ideals and destructive tendencies, leads to her deterioration.
Tchaikovsky wasn't downplayed in this movie. He's dead so anyone that would spend the time to arrange his music, by definition, elevates him or more specifically, his music. I'm educated in music, not in dance but I'll assume the same comment regarding this movie degrading ballet. If you want to uphold the integrity of classical music and ballet then support your local classical and dance ensembles. This isn't a documentary so it is absolutely ridiculous for people to have disdain because the movie didn't show respect towards other forms of entertainment.
I now wish she would have actually turned into a Black Swan at the end and really upset viewers who already hated this movie.
The Ringer (2005)
Why would this movie get a 1 or 2?
Good timing and rhythm and a great cast. Most all of the comedy in this falls well in between cheap shots and sensitive humor. I missed it on the screen and it was well worth renting. um... thats it I have to write 10 lines of text? Am I Leonard Maltin? OK..... I've worked with the Special Olympics It's not an entirely special experience Some DD's don't really want to do it nor do some of the staff..................... ............................ ............................. ..................................... ................................... ...................ridiculous guidelines
Ultraviolet (2006)
Comic Sands
Yes, two points.
1 for William Fichtner who is always great in whatever role he takes
2 for Milla and her midrange which shows throughout the entire film
I don't read the comic books that these movies are based on so I can't judge the movie from this, but....
Gad, what a weak film. The dialogue is lame and the whole flow is choppy and the action sequences weren't compelling at all, like playing a video game in invincibility mode.
Milla was so good in the Fifth Element but was terrible in this and I really think it was the script because she has been good in many roles.
Vampires??, maybe reading the comic would explain this better but in the movie it just looked as if half the cast decided to put in Vampire Teeth as a classroom joke.
Oh Milla, I still love your belly hole even though it could kill me. love ya, purple biotch, call me! Michael Covel (555-1234)
