I'm Alan Partridge (1997)
Right away, it had me by the jaffas
I work in Curry's, and was going to write my review in Latin, but decided most of you won't be able to understand it.
I watched this in 6th form in the late 90s, and could quote a lot of it word for word .... as you do back then, at that age. Now at 34, I still meet up with mates and I don't think I have had a night where I didn't slip in a quote here or there, could be something as small as "lovely stuff" .... or aqua, it's french for water. There are hundreds of varying quality, but you never run dry!
Then there are just outrageous, where did the thought process come from lines like; "I know lying is wrong, but if the elephant man came in now in a blouse with some make up on, and said "how do I look?" Would you say, bearing in mind he's depressed and has respiratory problems, would you say "go and take that blusher off you mis-shapened elephant tranny"? No. You'd say 'You look nice... John'"
The genius of Bohemiam Rhapsody is that you listen to it and think this is so out there, so unusual, where did it come from, what was the thought process, and that's what I think about Partridge. Some of it is just incredible genius, simple, but brilliant. I wrote a review for curb your enthusiasm, which the Americans hold up as comedy, I can see parallels between that and Partidge, but it's nowhere near as funny!
Curb Your Enthusiasm (2000)
It's OK. It's massively over-rated, but it's OK
Like Alan Partridge, which is a show from the UK (which pre-dates this) which is a similarly cynical grumpy older guy, but far far far less funny. At points it's superb, but overall it's only OK. Very watchable, but not brilliant.
I would say American comedies aren't that great. They're put together by a team of 30+ people, whereas great British comedies, which are far superior are usually written in a closer knit team of 2-3. Case in point American office vs The Office, and this vs Alan Partridge.
I've watched maybe two dozen episodes of this, so feel although I haven't seen them all, I have seen enough to comment. 4/10, watchable, but highly over-rated.
Rush (2013)
Top 10 movie of all time
I didn't grow up in this era of motor racing, when cars were operated b the driver more than a team of scientists in a hanger like now. Modern F1 is over-hyped, dull and boring compared to back then. Anyway, it was nice not knowing which way this one would turn out. Kept me in suspense, and surprised. I thought that acting was very very good, and this is one of my favourite movies now. I'd recommend anyone, fan of the sport or not, to watch this. My girlfriend felt the same ...

Movie 43 (2013)
The worst film I have ever seen.
It's sad that you can give 10 on a scale of 0 to 10 but not 0. I would give this zero. I saw a review from someone saying it's sad everyone seems to have lost their sense of humour. Believe me, I love dumb comedy, like dumb and dumber, something about Mary, airplane movies etc ... this, I was excited about watching it. I don't like to give bad reviews, if I devote any of my time to anything I want to enjoy it. I hated every second of this ordeal. I would rather spend a day in prison being abused by the sisters all day than go through watching this again. Avoid avoid avoid. No idea how it's registered such a high score, 4+/10 anyone not giving this a 1 needs their head examined.
Inglourious Basterds (2009)
One of the best 10 movies of my life
This was superb. I loved it so much, I've since told a lot of people to go and see it, and sat through it again a week after the first time with my missus.
Some of the scenes are a bit gory for my taste, but generally speaking the plot was fantastic, and the acting by the main German guy (forgotten his name - won an Oscar for it) was fully deserving of an Oscar win.
I'd advise anyone to see this. I now have to fill up some space on the review, as it's a 10 line minimum. 10 lines seems like an awful lot. I don't know why you need that much!!
