The Fall Guy (2024)
Chemistry
I went in expecting chemistry between Emily Blunt and Ryan Gosling. The movie delivered. What I didnt expect was a fantastic action/romance/dramedy set in, of all places, Sydney. One of the most beautiful cities in the world.
The movie has depth of story, humor, romance, comedy and drama.
I wish Id seen more of Blunt and Gosling together than the movie delivers. Blunt jas that Debra Kerr whispery voice that melts my heart and when she uses that voice with Gosling it brings tears to eyes.
Several of the "funny lines" we've seen in previews are not in the movie, but who needs them?
This is one of the best non super hero movies I've seen in a while.
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023)
Fun, original and sentimental
Its jam packed with Indiana Jones action and throwback scenes that blur the lines of the movie your watching now vs the original in 1981. I would have enjoyed it just for the fun action that it is.
But.
I loved what i considered to be back-to- back twists involving the dial. The twist is so original that id have never thought if it and even though it is a twist on scifi paradoxes weve all heard of before, it struck me as original in thought and presentation.
Its nice to see the original gang from 1981 one last time in a great fi that didnt depend on Nazi's alone, but instead, Romans?!
Yes. That kind of twist.
The Marvels (2023)
It was a good movie
I'm giving this a 7 because it was simply good.. It wasn't outstanding or awe inspiring, but if you take a step back and realize that not every movie is the Godfather or Endgame, you realize this was a comic book movie that did a good job at superhero's and villains.
Kamal Khan was the standout as far as the primary three characters goes. She was a perfect excited starry-eyed girl who is meeting her idol for the first time. And, come on, if you didn't think the Flerkin babies was funny, your not being honest with yourself. "Dont be afraid, let the Flerkins eat you!" might be as funny as the Godfathers serious line of "I'll make him an offer he can't refuse."
I'm not sure I cared too much for the villain in this movie. I'm also not sure I understand how Marvel can create Captain Marvel, the most powerful superhero there is, and let her not A. Kill Thanos outright, and B. Have a bracelet suck her power and make her incapable of defeating an average bad guy (girl) in this movie. She either is, or is not ridiculously powerful. You cant have it both ways.
The length of the movie was good too. No time to get bored or wonder why the drug it out too long.
If it were up to me, and its not, I'd have made a Captain Marvel 2, instead of "The Marvels" which is really just and excuse to increase the size of the MCU.
But still, I enjoyed the movie as a standalone movie.
Secret Invasion (2023)
I loved it for what it is, not what its a part of
I went into this show not knowing where it was going to go. But, right off the bat, I got the feeling that this was going to be like a spy movie. James Bond or Missions Impossible.
The difference is aliens! And the over-arching themes of the MCU.
This "slowed down" pace of storytelling was refreshing to me. Some of the episodes in the middle may have been realllyy slow, but the did add to the overall experience of the show.
I LOVED the finally, and was caught off guard by the creation (possibly) of a character that may be stronger than Captain Marvel! I'd like to see where this goes in the future.
I do agree that Marvel has been really pushing the content. Maybe too much!
Going to the theater and hearing the Marvel theme at the start signaled something HUGE was going to happen. But now.. Well now these are tv shows coming on weekly.. How much excitement is that overall?
I liked the show and simultaneously think Marvel should slow down the pace of new stuff.
Oppenheimer (2023)
This defines cinema
The movie begins (literally) with a bang, and ends the same. In between I watched with amazement as the first 70mm IMAX movie I've seen blowing me away with visuals and sounds and emotions I've never quite felt in a theater before. This movie is an experience unlike all others I've seen in my life.
I'm not a critic. I'm not here to break down the themes of science or morality. I'm here to tell you to watch this movie on the biggest, best screen you can and let yourself be absorbed by it.
The one thing I can assure you is you need to see this at the theater. There is no way this is going to have the same visual effect at home. Do yourself a favor see it now.
Numb3rs (2005)
Positive
This is just a positive opinion of the show from a non-math major Since the first show I caught.. I've been hooked on this show. For those that stumble somehow onto the "Numb3rs" page here at IMDb.com, let met encourage you to go out of your way to watch a few of these episodes.
The show may be called numbers, may have as its premise that complex problems can be solved by mathematical calculations, but it is not a lecture at your local college. It is FICTION... People who complain about it not being real enough I'm guessing have a problem with action movies like "Armageddon," "King Kong," and "Top Gun" to name a few. They probably don't get fiction but instead, prefer lectures of fact at their local university.
The shows biggest appeal is the cast. Main and periphery characters all working well, no ONE character taking MOST of the on screen time.. Its a great blend of different personalities on screen.
Why am I bothering to write this? Not because I do this often.. This, is my first time. I'm doing because the more people that watch numbers.. The more of a chance they will make more. THAT says a lot about how much I personally like this show..
