Rinne (2005)
There is no peace in Reincarnation
Take a spiritual concept and really make it gruesome. Reincarnation was a reminiscent of The Shining with the whole haunted hotel and spooky kids thing going on.
Reincarnation was less horror and more a supernatural thriller packed with suspense and intelligence. The film start off with a basic horror movie feel, and for the first part Reincarnation feels like an average movie this unfolds and takes on a different pace as the movie carries on, ending with a very unexpected conclusion. Wow, I didn't know sublety can knock me on the head that way. Though not as scary as previous films, Reincarnation is original.
Benny & Joon (1993)
A sweet love story.
A very sweet love story, about two people who never thought they would meet their match. June is a bit slow and lives with her older brother who helps take care of her. Benny is an eccentric man, misunderstood by many, funny, and playing his way through life. When the two have a chance encounter, they become intrigued by the other. Benny makes June laugh, and together the two teach each other about life. All the odds are against them and June's brother tries to stop their relationship. Sometimes love cannot be stopped and they overcome all the obstacles around them. A tear jerker, will make one laugh and cry. Johnny Depp is as always brilliant in his character work...and their is much truth in this story.
An American Haunting (2005)
Best psychological thriller is ages!
An American Haunting was one of the best psychological thrillers I have seen in years. I love seeing a movie that makes me think, creates discussion following the film, makes me want to research more about the story, and I must say this film did all of the above for me. I would even compare this to the classics like The Exorcist, and The Shining. This poor family was haunted for four years...night after night and each night the spirit or ghost would come to Betsy Bell. The really frightening moments were when she was dragged across the floor by an invisible force, hair yanked, and suspension in mid-air. The acting was brilliant, story line superb, and direction amazing. The scene in the woods where John Bell was hunting was very chilling, loved the special effects. One of my favorite actresses of all time is Sissy Spacek and I thought she once again made the movie. I will see this again and again....its one for the collection. I also want to add that Donald Sutherland is wonderful and gives so much reality to this story.
How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (2003)
Perfect date movie
How To Lose a Guy in Ten Days Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey have amazing chemistry....well we are talking Goldie's daughter and The Sexiest man alive...we want them to be together. This is a feel good romantic comedy that fully goes over the top with the classic..."Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus". Kate's character does everything possible to lose this man.....from showing up at his job, decorating his apt. with dollies and stuffed animals, photo shopping their faces to create a "future family album".....all laugh out loud material. But Matt's character has a bet to win...to make this woman fall in love with him....so he must keep putting up with the insanity of this chick. Its amazing what some writers will go through just for a good story......but then again why did Sex and the City become so popular? Oh course at the end we have the fall in love scene...because in any great love story the lovers never get together until the very end, and it usually involves an airport scene...or some chasing down of a bus. But never the less....I rate this an 8 out of 10 for romantic comedies...and entertaining factors. Plus a good date movie!!
