I Am Legend (2007)
5/10
Did I liked it or not?
1 February 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Alright, the movie is both, good and bad. The scenario of a cure spreading is realistic, the scenes of empty NYC are great, Will Smith is, well, good. Also, the explanations come at the right time (10% of worlds population surviving, of which only around 12 millions were immune, while the other 98% of the survivors turned into monsters)

However, here its starts to become strange. You'll feel more strange at the end of the movie than at the start, as just a lot of things will feel not logical.

Why can dogs get infected but lions can't? If there would be lions, I would at least think cats would be immune as well. Where are they?

Why the hell did the survivors not took a island somewhere? Like Hawaii. I read/watched much more logical stories. This is just highly unrealistic. Also, an evacuation based on apparently not-save-running "scanners"? Hell, yes!

Enough of the complaining about how unrealistic the movie was. Another thing which just went on my nerves was the reaction when the noticed the not-anymore-zombie-girl. Why did they not tried to show her to the zombie "boss"? It's like they hided here... also, did they just hide in the oven? How did they get out, with more zombies around? Just very strange scene in the lab...

The village in the end is also a bit strange. In such a situation, there would be massive re-population events, so every woman should be pregnant, and tons of young kids should be around.

Despite all the complaining, I liked the movie. An hour longer, more realism in the story, and it might have been really good. So it stays special but average.

Excellent movie, shows both side of history
17 April 2006
The year is 1859, the warfare has emerged from old large-scale battles to smaller fights, but the treatment of the wounded hasn't been improved.

Henry Dunant, who is not a doctor but more like a 19th century "Indiana Jones", sees the cruelty of war and decides to fight it.

Most people probably know the base rules of the red cross. This movie shows the difficulties how it got founded, and how the life of his founder was.

The movie had a quite large budget for an historical-TV-production, and I loved to see it. Maybe more interesting if you're interested in history or/and are swiss, because most parts of the movie plays in Geneva, but it will be definitely a good buy.

Both thumbs up, I will recommend it everyone and especially people who thinks that the movie might be historic crap might be positively surprised.

Zulu (1964)
10/10
Best war movie about the 19th century warfare in Africa

Warning: Spoilers
I bought the movie recently in a small DVD store where I never expected to find such a jewel. The interesting cover and the extremely cheap price (around 1€ - couldn't believe it) made me buying it.

The movie starts with a very nice scene showing Zulu capital city, you get an impressing view of the countryside, and a very good start into the whole situation, even if you were sleeping in history at school.

The DVD I got also offers some specials, which are also worth it. Still, in case the show this movie on TV, make a copy of it, because getting it on DVD could be either difficult or expensive, when ordering online. Try better in smaller stores which sometimes have those jewels on discount.

Enough of the starting, lets talk about the movie. Lovely talking with the best accents of the actors. Welsh regiments are lovely, and the swiss soldier who fight the Zulu even when seriously wounded, is amazing. Also, the movie offers you some comedy as well as very serious situations, for example with the drunken Swedish church guy.

The movie is truly a masterpiece of history, and should be remembered better. I couldn't find anything that was not lovely about this movie.

Of course, special effects are not as kinky as in a 21th century movie, nor is the colour of the movie that perfect, but the DVD version succeed in giving you a good re-done version of a truly masterpiece.

If you are not afraid of seeing some serious battle scenes, get this movie into your collection! Highly recommended

Flightplan (2005)

Too much mistakes, too less story..
24 December 2005
Warning: Spoilers
I was watching this movie together with my wife, where she was keen on watching, while I was more interested in somehow spending my time.

Because I'm German based and she is not, the starting of the movie promised quite an interesting movie for me, since they used real German sentences in it, even Jodie Foster spoke her few words quite well.

The starting pictures are really well, but as soon as they go on the airplane the movie gets boring. And when I say boring, I mean so. I was searching a logical storyline, or even a storyline to speak of. Sorry, no success in finding one. The plane might be interesting as a technical design, but all those flaws... WHY will the flight marshal get her daughter alive? Why not just kill her in the plane where he left her? Besides that, a whole plan just on the matter that no-one will remember her daughter, even when there are many other people in the plane? How did he got her away, anyway? I'm a frequent flyer, and I can tell that usually there won't be that many people sleeping in the first 2 hours of a intercontinental flight, most basically just wait for food. And in a brand-new airplane, there will be a lot of people anyway who try out all the new games/movies they find at their seats...

Another question, why does she travel Economy Class? Or is the comfort in Business that worse in her new airplane? If she is really having a decent job, why in Jesus name is she not flying business? Too many mistakes in the story, not to talk about that it can't be true that no person even noticed when the guy got the girl somewhere down in the airplane.. either this plane has some secret elevator which can be used comfortably, or it's just plain huge holes in the whole story.

Anyway, the basic idea is nice, the plane looks well inside (give you a guess how it could be in the new airbus, as soon it's ready for regular flights) and some parts are seen for itself quite well, so I'm still giving it a 3 out of 10.

Worth having a look on TV or if you get the DVD for cheap, but not a movie you should go for theater or get on DVD when it's fresh out.
