Satya (1998)
A cult
Watching this movie in 2022 and still felt so raw and dark and intense.. This is a testimony to the fact that a good story with good writing will always work, no matter the audience and the year the audience watches it.. RGV is brilliant in giving this movie the treatment it deserved!! Manoj Bajpayee plays the angry headed gangster with a soul but his character is a bit rash and doesn't end up taking the right decision at the right time. And he has NAILED it!! This is a pure masterclass of acting!!! The way he changes his expressions from rage to emotions, from stubbornness to friendliness is a treat to watch.. JD Chakravarty and Urmila played their part superbly as well but nothing can match upto BHIKU MATRE is this cult classic!
Jab Harry Met Sejal (2017)
Not as bad as I thought. Not at all!
Had been skipping this movie since its release going by the reviews. But finally after having watched a clip of one of its songs on YouTube, I decided to give it a shot and i was pleasantly surprised that this wasn't as bad as I thought. Yes, it's not one of the best films of Imtiaz Ali or srk, but it was a fun one time watch..
Home Shanti (2022)
Superb!!
If you want something refreshing, go for it. Absolutely loved the entire show right from the very first frame. It's a simple but very well executed family drama that doesn't give you any dull moment. Filled with light hearted, humorous and meaningful moments which are so relatable. These kinda shows deserve all the credit in the world. And when you have 2 veterans in Supriya Pathak and Manoj Pahwa, its surely gonna give you something worth your time. The 2 actors who played their kids too portrayed their roles pretty nicely. Overall a brilliant show that you can watch with the entire family..
Kaun Pravin Tambe? (2022)
Respect!
These kinda movies made on real life stories are nothing short of a spectacle. Was simply moved. India is indeed a land of simple and stubborn people. People who stay grounded, focussed and stubborn towards achieving their own dreams. Hats off to the man himself, Praveen Tambe!!
Coming to the movie, Shreyas is fabulous. Simply brilliant. He is unmatched here.. He's owned this character..
Tamasha (2015)
A movie for the ages
We all feel strangled in our daily lives. Liberation is the only objective for any living being. Be it a bird inside a pinjra or a tiger inside a zoo or a human soul from its 2nd fiddle. Once you liberate urself, that's when the real life starts..
And Tamasha is all about the feeling of liberation. The story works beautifully well.. Mental health is an issue no evryone is comfortable opening about. And it is potryed in a very clever way.
Special mention to the song Agar tum Saath Ho. By Alka Yagnik and Arijit Singh.
One word for the film. Masterclass!
Jigarthanda (2014)
Revival of the gangster drama genre
A cult classic. Bobby Simha stole the show with his stellar performance. Thoroughly enjoyable movie. Its a package. Background score compliments the scenes beautifully throughout.
Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011)
Never uninspiring
I had watched this movie in a theatre when it had released. Those were my college days. It was fun. Watched it again in 2022 and the impact is the same. An Inspiring tale not worth missing.
Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui (2021)
Easily an eye opener for us
Forget Ayushman khurana, forget commercial movies, this movie belongs to Vaani Kapoor and the intent it has for opening the eyes of the society.. Its never too late to learn and I'm sure people after watching this movie would learn a few things.. Acceptance is one such thing.. Evryone needs some sort of acceptance in life.. One person is enough to make u feel accepted and its really a special feeling.. A society like ours which is menataly paralyzed needs to understand these things.. These taboo subjects are very sensitive to the ones who have to deal with them all their lives.. And it was beautifully presented..
In Bollywood its not possible to please the audience without the masala quotient. And it lives upto evrything.. The script is very presentable and pleasing.. Ayushman is effortless as always in these flicks.. But Vaani Kapoor has to be the soul of this film. The kinda performance she has portrayed without going even a bit over the top is so satisfying to our eyes and she's surely the star in the making. Undoubtedly her best performance till date.. This goes on to show that if given a chance, one can go beyond his/her potential. Kudos to her.. Great film overall.
Decoupled (2021)
A refreshing tale
Fresh piece of content that's humorous all throughout.. The concept is pretty unique and so was the screenplay and the opening credits before each episode.. Its plain and simple. Nothing heroic or grand. Maddy once again showed that he can easily slip into the shoes of any character and Surveen chawla was actually at par with madhavan all the way.. Few scenes were absolutely rib tickling.. Thoroughly enjoyable.. Great for Binge watchers.
Table No.21 (2013)
Small and important message conveyed in a terrific way!
A movie that can easily match upto Hollywood standards. Don't miss this thriller.. One of the most underrated movies ever made in Bollywood.. Paresh Rawal nailed his part.. So has rajeev khandelwal.
Most Eligible Bachelor (2021)
One for the lovey dovey couples..
Go for it if you are a romcom lover.. Its a great watch.. The background score is terrific and fresh.. Only thing that could have been better is the timing of the songs..
Bandish Bandits (2020)
Can I go beyond 10 here??
Nothing short of an audio and visual spectacle... I can sum up the whole experience in just 3 letters.. WOW!! That's how brilliant this whole series is.. Though it's a Bollywood Origin, it doesn have Bollywood written anywhere in it.. A must watch.. If abusives were avoided then it could have been a family watch cuz it's very much intended to target the 50+ generation but with the *** words, it would not be a great idea to sit and watch it along with them😃 Nevertheless, it's outstanding.. It has evrything that will make up for the time that u r investing in it.. it's filled with classical music but not for a second does it feel dragged or unconvincing or choking... Superbly written and executed.. Screenplay, BGM and the musical tracks need a special mention here... Beautifully shot locals and very efficient potrayal of Rajasthan.. It din quite seem this appealing when I had watched the trailer, but boy oh boy, the whole series turned out to b the best I've watched in a long long time.. If only India produces such masterfully crafted shows in the future, will the audience be interested in watching them!! As far as the lead pair is concerned, it din seem like they r making their debut.. they were flawless.. actually Evryone.. I repeat each and every single character played their part so nicely that they will make u connect with them over the 10 episodes. I repeat again, each and every single character.. Last but not the least, when a veteran actor like Naseruddin Shah embraces any character, the whole show is bound to be amazing... Hopefully the 2nd season is out soon...
Avrodh: The Siege Within (2020)
Deserves nothing short of a 10
Yes, it's the same concept as of Uri:the surgical strikes. But in a more elaborate manner and slightly modified storyline.. Amit Sadh is the talk Of the town here.. One word for him: BRILLIANT!! He shows off his acting skills right from the word GO! His first scene itself is hair raising!! Very nice potrayal of the Indian Army.. surely will up the patriotic feelings within the viewers!! Brilliant casting again.. terrific acting by the antagonist.. Evryone plays their part honestly.. Power packed show..!! Go for it.. just a matter of 4.5 hrs.. definitely worth your time!
Lootcase (2020)
And enjoyable ride!
Stellar cast, great acting, good one liners, situational comedy.. evrything makes Lootcase an interesting watch.. a very nicely written and executed story line.. after Irfan khan's blackmail, this is another dark comedy that stands out.. Vijay raaz, gajraaj Rao, Kunal khemu and ranvir shorey light up this fun film with their brilliant screen presence.. definitely recommended!
Manmarziyaan (2018)
Love story with a 💓
Abhishek Bacchan isnt a bad actor at all.. just that two things make him look like he's bad at acting..
1) being the son of a megastar and being constantly compared with his father..
2) being a victim of bad scripts...
But he's turned the tables with this one and hope he continues to do so in the future as well..
Vicky Kaushal and tapsee pannu do not need a mention here.. they r pure form of talents and I love watching movies which has either of them.. their chemistry is sheer joy to watch.. AB brings in that calmness that a love story requires..
Anurag kashyap again proves y he's one of the finest directors in Bollywood.. he brings in a love story without being too melodramatic or without the formula that love stories in Bollywood normally embrace..
"happy beginning, sad interval, happy ending" kind...
It's not at all a stereotypical Hindi film love story and thats what works here..
Breathe: Into the Shadows (2020)
Grasping!
To b honest, I normally watch and read about some reviews before diving into any long web series.. one thing that kept bothering me was the fact that most of the reviewers were completely in awe of Amit sadh (which is quite genuine), but mentioned very less or negatively about abishek bacchan.. And after I started watching this I realized y none was talking about AB Jr's performance.. even I felt that he was not doing enough justice (after probably 1-2 episodes). And the reason was very simple.. we are all humans and we r prone to making comparisons😃😃 R Madhavan delivered what is to b called an extremely superlative performance in season 1.. and that's y AB Jr was being compared with the former and that's y the conclusion.. but as the episodes kept progressing, trust me when I say this, I was simply in awe of his performance.. he's nailed his character.. it was like slow poison.. din taste good the first time but improved in taste gradually.. his character was such that one could have easily overdone it.. but he kept the right balance and thankfully did not try to overdo it.. this has to b his best performance after Guru.. Amit Sadh shows us yet again y outsiders should not b ignored.. although he doesn have too many or many full fledged dialogues, he still potrays his part so damn effortlessly that it's definitely applausable.. all the supporting characters need a mention.. great casting!! Evry single character... Bang on..
Coming to the series, I would give it a 9.5 as it slows down just a little in between.. but the story telling is such that it constantly takes us on a tour of the past and brings us back to present.. apart from the pacethat I din find any such flaws.. it lives up to the "suspense thriller" genre perfectly..
The biggest plus of this series is the background score.. it is top notch...!! It is very good at the important junctures..
These content driven stories were reqd so badly after the duds that Bollywood was giving us over the years.. thanks to the birth of OTT platforms..🙏
Gulabo Sitabo (2020)
OK..!
A few laughs here and there, a few light moments here and there.. amazing performances by all the supporting cast.. but it's a nothing of a movie.. good that it released on OTT platform.. u can give it a shot if u r an admirer of AB or Ayushman..
Malang - Unleash the Madness (2020)
Dragged to the core...
I would say it's a wasted opportunity.... There was certainly something in the script.. but very badly executed.. the antagonists don't look menacing at all for their role.. Disha patani is strictly okay.. her acting really weakens the storytelling... Unnecessary songs at incorrect timings further makes the movie seem endless.... Cud have been a lot crisp and tight.. all in all, give it a shot of u have nothing to do.. and what do I say abt spoilers.. watch the trailer and it's all in there.. but it's hardly of any big significance ...
Thappad (2020)
WOW, WOW, WOW, WOW, WOW, WOW!!!!!!!
This isn't anti-male intended.. This isn't feminism propagation intended.. This is a pure and simple story of self respect and love... Sadly, women do have to face these issues in their daily life.. And men think that they can get away after one slap, but once a mistake is commited, it actually gets repeated over many a times.. But the point here isn't about the slap. It's abt the fact that the husband wasn't even apologetic for once.. all he cared about was his world, his career, his job, his plans, his life.. This in plain words is the story.. But finally some sense prevailed and the husband eventually realised his mistake at the very end.. Had he apologized right after that particular incident instead of putting his wife in the fault-zone and trying to play himself safe, I'm sure the result would have been different.. I'm a man and I thoroughly enjoyed the movie.. not a single dull moment.. yes it's a lil slow, but who cares when the subject is so hard hitting.. Kudos to director Anubhav Sinha.. he's been on a roll now.. Mulk, Article 15 and then Thappad..
And the funny thing is that this movie is getting a lot of negative reviews😂😂 which goes to prove that those ppl would have definitely raised their hand on someone or the other in their life and the numbers are huge... But all said, this movie is an eye opener for the society.. those with an open mind will definitely take away a lot.. and the ones with closed minds, God save them!!
Extraction (2020)
For action lovers!
Extraction is a film that reveals itself in the trailer itself.. what u get to see in the whole of the movie that is not revealed in the trailer is just truckloads of action.. beautifully shot action scenes.. at times it gives u feeling that h r actually playing a video game.. few things miss out here and there.. the main antagonist in the film seems to be absolutely powerless.. couldn't figure out the reason behind it yet.. randeep hooda's character was not portrayed in a very meaningful way.. apart from that there is nothing else in the story that u can bank upon.. it's a 2-hr long action packed junkie!!!
Room (2015)
An absolute gem of a movie!!
If u haven't watched this film yet, watch it right away as soon as u get some free time.. this one will amaze u, move u, and inspire u.. this film will make u feel the true meaning of freedom.. watch it for the little boy if not for anything else.. and boy oh boy!! His expressions are bang on.. perfect for each and every inch in the storyline.. One of the most overwhelming films I've watched off late..
Forooshande (2016)
Gripping
Truest form of cinema.. no fancy music, no fancy songs, no fancy costumes.. just a simple storyline, delivered in a suspenseful and engaging manner.. brilliantly done by all the actors..
Mulholland Dr. (2001)
Mind-boggling!!!!
Bizzare, unauthentic, dramatic, chaotic, non-sensical!!! But yet I'm giving it 9 stars!! Ask urself if Ur dreams are not like these!! Cuz my dreams r exactly the way I hev described this film in the first line of my review with some adjectives.. the thought itself deserves 10 stars cuz I'm giving 9 cuz by the end of this movie I had got a serious headache... In the quest of finding out what the story is all about😀
Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo (2020)
Entertainment!
Best entertainer.. u won't get bored at all.. I won't say it's different from the conventional Telugu cinema.. the masala is the same but the final recipe is different.. it wil keep u hooked throughout.. 10 on 10 for the entertainment value..
Section 375 (2019)
Has BRILLIANCE written all over it!!
Watched such an amazing movie after a long long time!!! If u end up not liking this movie, I'm sorry my friend, something is definitely wrong with you then.. we, Indian audience want critically acclaimed movies right? Something different from the usual Bollywood clichés.. here it is for you.. I was simply awestruck at the end.. in the era of copy-paste and remakes I'm glad ppl are coming up with such innovative, fresh and bold stories.. Richa Chaddha is exceptional as this "always for justice" lawyer.. but boy o boy, Akshay khanna u beauty.. he just steals the show!!! What masterful acting.. his best without an iota of doubt..
But above all, it's the writter and the director who deserves all the applause for giving life to this stand out cinematic experience..
