Memory of Encaustic Tile (2022)
Heartwarming!
The theme montage itself brings you a nostalgic glimpse of childhood and friendship. It is upbeat and happy. And you find yourself excited to witness the scenes that were showcased in the montage. That's where the excitement is built. And it stays true to it.
One thing about this show is that it is very honest. It has the same vibes of the show 'Go Ahead'. The only difference is that I actually watched this one till the end. It revolves around the journey of and relationships between multiple families that grew up together in the same neighborhood. It is about a group of friends.
There are points where the show lacks including lack of character growth for the female lead Xue and the inconsistent presence of the rest of the gang (excluding ML and FL). But in a way, the second part feels justified. Though some things feel unnecessary, that's what life is.
The thing about this show is that it is an emotion. You have to feel it to love it. I felt it. I loved it too. Some parts are harder to swallow but they don't cast shadows on the rest of the goodness.
I'll rate it a 9. It was originally supposed to be a 10 but something hit me hard. Could it have been better? Yes! But it's good enough as it is. It is heartwarming. It makes you smile. It makes you cry. Most importantly, it makes you feel that soulful warmth and brings you the sense of home. I'd recommend it.

Soulful!
I'll start with the music. The theme is so calming. It makes you want to stop and listen. As I said earlier, it is soulful!
This is the first time I watching something with Zhang Hans but I'm a fan now. His subtle nuances make you smile and his spontaneous boyfriend behavior simply makes you fall in love. His portrayal of Tang Mingxuan is, to put it simply, awe inspiring.
This is the second time I watched Xu Lu. Love Scenery was a show that introduced me not only to her but also chinese drama in general. Fell in love with her then and still am. . . Even more so!
Moving on to the plot. . . Despite being slow paced, it holds a lot of meaning. Even if some might consider it a drag at certain instances, one would not be obliged to drop the show. This is not only a very heartwarming love story about a mature couple but it also introduces you to the multiple facets of chinese fashion. I'm a fan!!! I learned a lot. THE VISUALS!!!
And one thing I love about this show is that despite there being several cliches that are characteristic of the romance genre, it doesn't feel fictional at any point of time. It's very real. There is an innate sense of understanding there. There are times when the facial expressions say it all. There are several endearing side characters too!
And, the best part is that there are no loose ends. Everything seems to come together for everyone in a way. Highly recommend it! I can't believe that I had this waiting on my 'to-watch' list for months.
