Licorice Pizza (2021)
An exceptionally boring film
This film was a major disappointment for me, 2 hours and 13 minutes that felt like 2 weeks. Cinematography is the best part about it but nothing of note happens.
One major concern I have is the lead male is Cooper Hoffman who was 16 but looked 36 when this movie was being filmed and he falls in love with the lead female played by Alana Haim who was 29 but looked 49 when the movie was made. That's right a 16 year old and a 29 year old and nobody has said anything, if it was the other way around reviewers would be up in arms.
Ray Donovan: The Movie (2022)
Sometimes I wonder if "reviewers" on here actually watch what they reviewed.
Sometimes I wonder if "reviewers" on here actually watch what they reviewed.
So far I've seen tears about too many flashbacks when in reality the flashback scenes are maybe 10% of the movie. I've seen tears about it being too slow and boring, well did you actually watch the tv show?? And then of course the classic 1/10 worst movie ever crowd.
Is this as good as early Ray Donovan? Absolutely not, those days were gone as soon as they killed Abby and got rid of Avi as well which ended up leading to the show dipping in quality but this is still a good ending to what was an entertaining show.
Red Notice (2021)
How did this cost $200m?
You have to wonder where the $200m went for this film, I assume $190m of that was on salaries of the people involved and the rest was on horrendous CGI.
I'm not even exaggerating in saying 90% of the movie is green screen, almost George Lucas Star Wars prequels bad CGI. They go to multiple locations and it looks like a Syfy channel movie at times. I get covid would have restricted the travel but they could have shot these on a studio lot.
You look at Terminator 2 which is godlike and had a similar budget and was released 30 years ago and it looks 100 times better than this.
As for the movie it has the usual Ryan Reynolds and Dwayne Johnson humour with Gal Gadot popping up every time something good happens to ruin it for everyone.
If you have Netflix then watch it to pass 2 hours otherwise you aren't missing anything.
Music Box: Woodstock 99: Peace, Love, and Rage (2021)
A disaster of an event with an even bigger disaster of a documentary
Dear oh dear. We all know this event turned into a disaster but what you didn't know is this would be a documentary with the classic 2021 talking points.
It's all the fault of white people, it's misogyny, homophobia, basically all the ist's and ism's you can name. This could have been a smart way to look back on this era but why do that when you can just be a victim.
This documentary just turned into a sjw fest pretty quickly. One contributor Wesley Morris from the NY times especially has a problem with white people to the point that he himself is a massive racist.
What you could actually blame it on is immature people in a crowd drinking alcohol and taking drugs all week, mixed in with an event that wasn't planned properly and it's only going to end one way.
Sweet Girl (2021)
Jumps the shark an hour and 18 minutes in
Well well well we meet again identity politics. The movie was plodding along nicely as a generic action movie with big Jason kicking the bad guys teeth in until it isn't Jason Momoa but his 5' tall daughter.
You see Jason Momoa is 6'4 and is a big dude so you can easily see him doing this until the movie flips it and it turns out it was his daughter. She is only 20 but looks about 14 and is known for playing Dora the explorer but it turns out she can break the neck of ex military fully grown men without any trouble.
As soon as this happened I did let out a grown but ended up just laughing and wondering when movie studios will stop this nonsense.
We'll probably all be called sexist for pointing this out but it is what it is.
The Suicide Squad (2021)
How is this rated at 7.8/10
The fact this movie has such a high rating shows it's not just review bombing that's an issue now it's movies given far too high praise by a bunch of nerds on the internet.
The movie starts out like all these DC/Marvel/Cape Crusader movies do with lots of fighting then slows down to try and establish the plot and characters and then the last 45 minutes it's all the buildings you can think of getting smashed to bits as per usual.
This is a James Gunn movie so you should know what to expect humor wise but for me it very rarely lands and is just a bit naff.
Margot Robbie... I'm 100% done with her as Harley Quinn, she's a gorgeous woman but the character is unbelievably annoying. Also I'd imagine Quentin Tarantino would be absolutely fuming at the fact that Margot Robbie's feet play such a pivotal role in one scene and he missed out on them toes in his last film.
Terrible dialogue, I'm talking daytime soap opera level.
I watched this for free online and I'm glad I didn't pay for this. Is it the worst movie you'll see? No obviously not, it's just below average and dare I say not any better than the last Suicide Squad movie from a few years back.
