South Park: Put It Down (2017)
Preechy, Not Funny
This Episode really scares me about the direction that South Park is headed. South Park for a long time, now has all been satire comedy. This I am completely fine with! I think it is great to take today's current events and problems and make fun of them! This episode failed at this, when the episode started it caught my attention, talking about north Korea and Texting and Driving are both 2 topics that you COULD make some good jokes about. But just like last season, South Park is now more focused on keeping up with their past episodes than they are creating a funny show. For example, this whole episode was Cartman and his girlfriend arguing and then calling each other babe. And then plot line 2 was all about Craig and Tweak fighting and then calling each other babe. Just Because South Park makes an episode where something happens (such as tweek and craig being forced to be gay together s19e06), does NOT mean that they have to continue the joke. Especially when they continue it like this did on this episode meaning it brought no comedy value to the table whatsoever. This Episode also had two songs in it. While I am not opposed to South Park having songs in the episodes because Trey is actually a pretty good musician, I think it at least needs to have some comedy value instilled into it. Look at s13e01 The Ring, That is the one with the Jonas Brothers. The Song Trey makes up is super funny because it shows how corny the Jonas Brothers really are. The Suicide song on this episode on the other hand was just about how cool they could make Cartman look while talking about himself. But the comedy aspect was not there. I am beginning to look at Cartman like I have looked at Homer Simpson for some time now. A really really strong character that the creators completely sell out! For example, when The Simpsons were still really good, Homer did something new and inventive every episode. We watched to see what new things he was capable of. The same goes with Cartman on the classic South Park episodes. But now, everything about Cartman is about who he is (the name he has for himself), instead of what he does. It is like they are just now riding on his popularity instead of making him do something completely insane and original. He is less cunning now a days and more of just a whiny little B. He has always been whiny, but when it was matched with his pure cunning and evil, it created great balance. I just do not see that in him anymore.
