Evil Dead Rise (2023)
dont believe the hype. it was just ok
The orginal 80's evil dead is the only movie to ever scare me when i was 5 years old. Nothing has come close since then, and this latest installment isnt an exception.
From the start it had so much potential, back in a cabin with some grisly scenes, then cut to the previous day to see how things happened.
From the outset i dont think i was as invested because i was routing for the 2 older kids to be killed/turned then killed, i didnt care for them at all, the girl was a climate activist vegan whos demographic annoys the hell out of me, the boy (i think it was a boy) was, i think trying to be a mixture of miley cyrus and ellen degeneress they/them/ whatever. The characater develpment was almost non existant.
The acting itself was absolutly terrific from all parties but especially the mum and and the little girl.
With all the trailers and the 'reaction' viedos i had high hopes to reboot the evil dead franchise, however, for me personaly it did not live up to the hype.
There is plenty of blood and gore, but there was just something i cant put my finger on to what it was lacking.
Direction, tension and acting spot on, the rest just felt very mediocre.
Overall i would say it is definatly worth a watch weather your an evil dead fan or new to the experience. But i dont think i would watch it twice.
The Toolbox Murders (1978)
Not bad, but not real
After listening to a podcast about the toolbox murders serial killers by robots for eyes podcast, I went into this film thinking it was based off the true events of the real killers. Unfortunately not. However as a film by itself it is not bad. Starts off really gory and well made deaths. The middle segment of the film was a bit slow going but still good enough to keep you watching. The ending was a surprise if your not clever enough to work things out before hand.
All in all its a good exploitive movie but not based on the real toolbox murderers.
