Night Gallery: Hatred Unto Death/How to Cure the Common Vampire (1973)
Not one of the better shorts
This is one of those "humorous" shorts from Night Gallery that really falls flat. Not all of them were bad and they were meant as nothing more than quick time fillers. But this one is a real groaner.
I guess what bugs me the most about this one is that the establishing shot of the castle, and the Vampire Hunters approach and then the opening of the coffin lid. All of this is made to pound the fact in that these guys are going to kill a Vampire.
And then it is all over within a second.
Ah well, I still love Night Gallery. Although as for the short humorous bits my favorites are "Mrs Lovecraft sent me" and "Junior".
The Blood Beast Terror (1968)
Mothman!
OK, not one of the better offerings of British horror, that's true. But it does have Peter Cushing who is always fun to watch and I have to give credit for the writers to try to bring a somewhat more original monster to the screen than just another rehash in the Vampire or Frankenstein vein. Well, come to think of it aside from making the monster a moth ,this really is just another rehashed Vampire story with a few elements from the Frankenstein storyline thrown in for good measure.
I cannot help but wonder if the monster was inspired by the legend of the Mothman, the legendary beastie from West Virginia. The resemblance is pretty close. A man sized moth creature with red glowing eyes.
Shame more people have not seen this though, it's not as bad as its reputation. I find it pretty enjoyable.
Heavy Metal: Louder Than Life (2006)
Covers a lot of history
I loved this film! It covers a lot of history of Heavy Metal music. From its earliest influences to the latests incarnations today.Contains interviews from artists not heard from often and that was refreshing to see. Some of the stories these guys tell, esp about their own early days are fascinating and funny as hell!
Gives a good overview of the history of metal and I would recommend this to those who are long time fans or to those who are newcomers or even to those who are not fans at all but are just interested in Metal as a social phenomena would find this interesting.
Hell, I wish this DVD had even more to see on it, and it contains a lot!
Passion in the Sun (1964)
Truly surreal
I personally love this movie. It's like some sort of fever dream caught on celluloid. There is not much that makes a lot of sense but that is fine. I bought the DVD of "The God-Monster of Indian Flats"and was thrilled to find this gem attached to it. "God-Monster" is pretty bizarre too .The scene with the girl dancing around with the sheep creature will remain burned in your brain forever. But "Passion in the Sun" is the icing on the cake. I remember "The Monster at Camp Sunshine" and it comes in a close second to this one (it involved a monster and nudists) but this is something I can watch again and again.
This movie is a lot of fun to show to your friends as well. Some of mine just hated it while others really had a laugh.
