Fake Russian accent (and not even one sentence in Russian!), the worst acting and the most embarrassing sex scene I have ever seen on screen. I still can't believe Jeremy Irons (one of the best living actors) was willing to participate in this. I hope he got well paid.. I usually like Jenifer Laurence - That's the reason I went to see "Red Sparrow" last night - but this..? For God sake, She has the same look on her face for 2 long hours and 15 minutes! The look of "let's get it over with already"...

High hopes

Since I really loved "The Fifth Element", I went to see "Valerian" with lots of high hopes. I knew I can expect a whole lot of impressive visual effects (duh?), so I decided to go for the whole deal: a 4DX experience.
Well.. let me start by saying, that regardless the 4DX, the visual and sound effects are indeed very impressive. No surprises there. If you pour a 200 million dollar budget(!), you might as well get that part right - and Besson did.
Unfortunately, all the rest was pretty much forgotten in the process: The acting is so poor, that soap operas can be considered as masterpieces in comparison. The dialogues (more like screams and clichés) are terrible and mostly childish. The characters (and actors) have no charisma what so ever, and the plot is basically nonexistent - not to mention the predictable ending (You'll figure it out 15 minutes into the movie).
Besson said he was inspired by James Cameron's "Avatar". Well - that part is true, but he also took all the bad things from "Avatar". 137 long minutes, 200 million dollar budget and somehow Besson managed to blow it. At some point, I just wanted this to end.
Bottom line, this might be the biggest flop of 2017, and the end of Besson's career. If that's the best he can do after 15 years of work and a gigantic budget, he's done.
