The Irishman (2019)
7/10
Mixed, brilliant, but flawed
26 January 2020
It was way too long. The last part was painful to watch. They should have ended it earlier.

The details of the era, the sets, the costuming was incredible. The actors were just too old. Even when playing younger, the body movements were just obvious. I am old and remember when all these actors were young. It was distracting that these three have been in every gangster movie for decades. I could not separate the actors from the characters.

what a horrible film
14 December 2016
We saw it before all they ads and hype started. We hated it. What a waste of time. Actually too much like real life with dumb dysfunctional people. An ad finally came on TV saying is was funny. I started yelling at the TV. "Funny??? Funny???? Where????? While yelling a description of some things that happened in the film. My husband came in to see if I was OK and wanted to know if I was having a seizure.

It did have pretty scenery. But I would like to know how a bachelor and a teen age boy had such a clean house. I couldn't connect with any of the characters. None were likable. So, no I can't recommend it unless you are into depressing films.

why are people comparing it to other films?
12 March 2012
This story came out in 1917, before James Cameron, before Star Wars, before Avatar. All these stories came out AFTER A Princess of Mars. Before James Cameron, Steven Spielberg and Lucas parents were even born.

They got some of their ideas from Edgar Rice Burroughs, not the other way around.

The film did have some updated ideas to make it a bit more exciting for younger watchers. I had to think about it for awhile. I did enjoy the film a lot.

My review is kids, read the old science fiction.

loved it
13 August 2009
I had read the book three times when it first came out, so I was excited when I got tickets to an advance screening. I was just hoping they didn't ruin the book. I know films can't be like the books, so I carefully did not re-read it.

They did an awesome job with the film. They captured the story, the flavor, the essence of the book, even if they did have to leave some things out. I loved the girls playing Alba.

There was laughing at the funny parts and some crying at the sad. My sister loved it. She had no intentions of reading it and only went because I had tickets. She was sniffly when we left and now has the book.

Notice to guys who like blow em ups. This is a romantic chick flick! Though the one guy I had talked to in line was crying as we left. He did say he loved it.

I would have given it a nine if some of the scenes hadn't been filmed in the dark like a lot of Hollywood.

get a tripod and some lights
3 August 2007
We had to leave in the middle of this movie. I was getting seasick and a headache trying to watch the shaking camera. It was filmed with dark, close up shaky head shots. The action scenes where filmed so fast and blurry I could not follow them.

I could not see what was happening and spent a half an hour with my eyes closed hoping it would end and that my husband was enjoying the horrid thing when he tapped me and told me he was feeling sea sick and could not follow anything with the camera that would not hold still.

I am totally at a loss as to why anyone would or could sit through this movie, much less think it was good.

The Secret (2006 Video)

if it doesn't work it's all your fault
9 April 2007
Warning: Spoilers
I finally broke down and borrowed a copy to watch. The reason I finally did was I have problems with my post office. I have for 20 years. As I was trying to track yet another missing piece of mail, the girl I was talking to said I needed to see the Secret. If I just thought more positive, my mail service might improve. Wow! Mail by positive affirmation.

I should sue them, along with several other authors and people. It was a complete ripoff of a class I teach on Candle Magick! The problem is that the positive affirmations, visualizations and all they explain can work. But then they say if anything, and I mean anything goes wrong in you life, IT IS YOUR FAULT! Yes, many people cause their own problems, but bad things do happen and the blame the victim mentality is just wrong.

There is no Secret. Many people teach and write the same thing. Think positive and your life will be positive. I believe that. But things do go wrong. I say that we are not always responsible for what happens in our lives, but we are responsible how we deal with it.

honor your parents or else
2 December 2006
I got this movie because I have become quite a Govinda fan. I almost didn't as it had no reviews and only a few votes. Did only relatives vote? But Govinda and his dancing and his smile won out and it was worth the view. A little heavy handed in the message, but Bollywood does that.

We have a son who's greed for money has him rejecting his honest father and his views of life. The son marries the daughter of the honest father's worst enemy. They become estranged. Then the son has his own son. The grandparents become close to the grandson The grandson comes to prefer his grandparents over his parents and so are thrown out into the cold cruel world to fend for themselves and the child is told his grandparents are dead.

20 years later the child is all grown up and finds out his grandparents are still alive and decides to teach his parents a lesson.

revenge and forgiveness
28 July 2006
I bought this movie as it said 10/10. It was closer to a something between a 7 and an 8. I didn't notice it was only 5 votes. I decided later that it must be relatives of someone on the film as the one review is exactly what is on the DVD box. The movie was quite good however. It was very confusing at first as it did not explain what was going on until a good 4th of the way through the movie. I almost gave up on it, but then was glad I didn't. It is about a cop who becomes a criminal to destroy crime. My disk was very poor quality but there were enough explosions to satisfy any action type person. The romance was a little thin but the dancing to Ganash was awesome. The movie is about revenge and also forgiveness.
