ER (1994)
The best shoow in history
This is, and always will be, the best medical based drama to watch. Out of all the shows and movies I've seen, this remains to be the only one I've gone back and watched so many times that I can now recite the majority of the episodes from memory. ER was ahead of its time in so many ways, and to this day cannot be topped by anything else.
One very special thing this show did was introduce actresses/actors that no one else had heard of. I'm not just talking about the main cast, I'm referring to the temporary set characters, like patients, "civilians" and other background pieces. It brought a newfound fame to people who otherwise probably wouldn't have had any. There are actually a lot of people from ER of whom I've seen in other shows and get excited by seeing them.
As I said before, ER was ahead of its time. There were some interesting and real scenarios that either happened previously, or happened at some point in the future. The Lucy death episodes will forever be haunting, but, ER was able to tackle a serious issue which is drug addiction and did it in a respectable way that shed light on a problem.
There was just so much about this show that was perfect, so much that even to this day remains unmatched. I will forever love Anthony Edward's Mark Greene. Dr. Greene was a phenomenal character, and I was so sad when he passed.
Carter was another favorite. He was the Robin to Dr. Greene, they were amazing together.
The only character I hated was Carol Hathaway. Her character was obnoxious and a hypocrite.
At the end of the show, when they showed Mark's daughter starting her medical career, I had really hoped there'd be a spin off series with her as the focus. That was wasted opportunity, and I'll never forgive them for that.
Cursed (2020)
Had potential, was awful
I don't know anything about Arthur, or even what this show was intending. My review is based solely off entertainment and story.
The story pissed me off and made no sense at all. Nimue has powers, but they are only helpful when there are trees and plants near by? What kind of power is that? And speaking of her power, she never did learn how to properly harness it. Such a waste of a power.
The way Nimue died turned me off entirely, and is why my review is so low Her death was because of some shrew that nobody knows? A girl who has zero backstory, and zero real reasoning for why she wants Nimue dead. Tis was the stupidest death.
The Weeping Monk character is great, I love how ruthless he is. However, it doesn't make any sense that he suddenly has a heart and decides to help a kid. He slaughtered and burned so many, yet all of a sudden he cares?
There is so much I could talk about, so much I could rant about. As a gritty action show, I enjoyed it, but story wise it was a complete let down.
Code 8 (2019)
Great movie
People must really be stupid with all the negative reviews. I had never heard of this before, but gave it a try and I really enjoyed it. Was a great take on people with powers and was believable.
The acting was good as well, I especially loved the "Enforcers". I loved the idea of heavily armored robot police who can tank anything. With some of the things real world cops see, that would be helpful.
Back tracking a bit, everything futuristic in this movie was believable, and is something I'd expect to see some day in real life. There was nothing I looked at and thought "this is too scifi-esq". Overall, I really enjoyed this movie.
How It Ends (2018)
What a waste of a movie
Always love Forest, he is an AMAZING actor! I didn't even know he was in this, Netflix recommended the movie and I thought I'd give it a try. During the initial trip to Seattle, I hated how Will didn't seem to be in any hurry to drive and check on his pregnant wife, and instead was questioning some of the decisions Tom made
The overall story was meh, and I liked how the "challenges" the main characters faced were pretty mundane, nothing crazy. However, I HATED how at the end it became a cliche "neighbor hits on hot wife of allegedly dead husband, husband comes back and now the two men fight." That was so stupid and unneeded. Not to mention, the use of "we thought you were dead." Mf it has only been 5 DAYS! What do you mean?
Additionally, there was no reveal in the movie about what exactly happened. I looked it up, and Wikipedia confirms the cause was never given. What garbage is that? When people watch a movie like this, we want answers! We want to know what happened and why. The entire movie was bland and boring, and feels like it was made to gain some money.
Hunter Killer (2018)
Nice action movie!
If you can overlook the story - which isn't plausible at all - and remember this is meant for entertainment, this is a fantastic action movie! The acting is good, the characters are good, and the beautiful Linda Cardellini returns. Even though most of the movie takes place on a submarine, they do a good job of balancing out screen time so you're not stuck in one spot for too long.
I really appreciated the respect this movie gave to submarine Captains of two different factions. Yes, initially there was repulse at "we're bringing Russians here?" but it turned into "no one wants this war, we will work together."
I should ignore it, but for the sake of being an accurate review, I'm going to touch upon the plot. As mentioned previously, this isn't possible. A military general staging a coup and deciding he's going to start the next war? And none of the other soldiers are like 'wait a second, that's the president, he's turning on the president!'
The guy who started the coup died, which - at least for me - felt like a letdown. He took his own president hostage and was about to cause a war, yet he dies and there's no justice. So now everyone moves on like "okay, it's over."
Great movie for action and excitement, but not at all a story driven movie.
Jingle All the Way (1996)
Great Christmas Classic
The people leaving negative reviews clearly have no Christmas spirit or imagination. This movie wasn't meant to be perfect or realistic, it's a Christmas movie! Having grown up with it, I adore this movie. Obviously it has some faults, weird things and story wise is goofy af, but Christmas itself is a goofy religious Holiday that ultimately means nothing. So I fail to see the problem.
Arnold is great, good humor, and at the end of the day it's about a dad trying to do good by his son. I think the ultimate message of the movie makes up for any small nitpicks.
I will forever love this classic!
Svart krabba (2022)
Wish I could have the time back I spent watching this
I normally don't spoil movies in reviews, but this is so bad that I have to. The movie is a glorified suicide of a woman who lost her kid. There was no real reason for this mission to happen, and it was a goofy idea from the start.
You had one guy die from the start, another who gave away their position by contacting his girlfriend, and the main character giving their position away with her weapon's flashlight. Not to mention, they were facing an attack helicopter, in what was a wide open area, yet the heli couldn't do anything?
Then you have the ending. Woman finds out her kid is probably dead and - what? Nades herself. Ok..so the entire purpose was to show her eventual suicide. There's no 'closure' or wrapping up to this, just 'hey they went and did this totally pointless thing, movie over.'
What a complete waste of time to watch.
The Railway Men: The Untold Story of Bhopal 1984 (2023)
Excellent show that helps spread awareness
Had it not been for this show, which Netflix recommended, I would never have known about the Bhopal incident. Having watched Dark Records on Youtube - a channel about events similar to this - I am very much interested in learning about disasters like this.
Mainly because it shows human error is almost always at the center of death. It made me mad knowing that someone was asking questions, someone wanted to raise the alarms, yet they were stopped by some idiot who only cared about saving himself.
The Constable's story was unique. Started off as a thief who became the good guy due to tragic circumstances.
There was one aspect to this entire story that wasn't really explained and left me curious. The rain that is going to Bhopal is a victim to these weird guys who are after a "girl", and it' revealed it's a boy. But there's never any follow up as to what they wanted with him.
Overall, I enjoyed this movie and am appreciative of learning something new.
Triple Frontier (2019)
Great for action, terrible for story
This is clearly one of those action movies that focuses on action and throws in a story for funsies. If you like a story that makes sense, this movie isn't for you.
I really did enjoy the insane action, this is a movie that would benefits greatly a 50" tv. It was very good at keeping your attention. As a pure action movie, it is amazing - no issues with it.
I loved the actors, they were all really good - especially Pedro Pascal. He is the best, and was one of my main reasons for even watching.
If you care about the story, here's where the cons come in. How exactly can one guy completely coordinate a military-esq operation and no one in the government has a clue?
The entire plot was getting fat money, men left their families - not for their country, but for money. And what happened? One guy died so they sacrificed all of it to his family. I understand giving some, but all of it? There was no point at all to having this movie if they gave the cash away.
Ava (2020)
Recycled from other movies
While watching this, I felt de ja vu, because there have been other shows/movies with a similar storyline. Similar enough that it felt familiar and predictable. "Employee has questioned what they are doing and/or refused to do something they are told? Kill them!"
There was an attempt at giving Ava background, of exploring her psyche, but it didn't turn out well at all. Action wise, it was great, but that's all this movie had going for it.
I really expected more from this, and am disappointed that all Ava did was reuse from other movies/shows, with only minor changes. The only real positive was Ava's actress, she is stunning.
Security (2017)
Story was a little too generic, but was a good action movie
If you're looking for a good action movie, this is for you! There's lot of action and lots of violence. Antonio is an amazing actor and was probably the best part about this.
Story wise, it was far too generic and wasn't even done that well. For one, magically all communication, reception, etc gets cut when these guys are around. No real explanation, just "giggle giggle we can't reach anyone!"
Second, I appreciate attempts at humor, but in a way, it felt very forced. Like when the "head" security guard is making jokes and being stupid. Granted, I could see a security guard being like that irl, but it was such a boring, overdone cliche.
Third, there's all this gun fire, even explosions, yet no one around seems to notice. What's the excuse for this? "dis mall is in middle of nowhere!"? In almost every city where there is a mall, that mall is either in the center of everything, or close enough that there is always traffic/people around.
Fourth, so this girl is a witness, yet the Marshals have very basic security for her. Really? And it takes them ages to even find out something is wrong?
Again, action wise it's a great movie, but the story is meh.
The Old Guard (2020)
Great movie!
When coming here to write a review, I learned something new - there's a comic! I came into this movie blind an was pleasantly surprised. The powers that the immortals have reminds me A LOT of Wolverin's powers - maybe the same?
There were a few small snafus and things that didn't make sense, but overall I loved it. I really wish I could say part of the story is unrealistic, but it's not. While some things are definitely for entertainment, there's a lot that we have seen and will continue to see in terms of the science field.
The actors were all amazing and fit their part perfectly. I hope this turns into a series!
Interceptor (2022)
Unrealistic and makes little sense
The description sounded interesting, but in terms of execution this movie was awful. So many elements were unrealistic to the point where it wasn't entertaining. Very disappointed.
I think my biggest issue is more with the story. As I said, a lot of it was unrealistic, and certain character reasoning for why X was happening didn't line up.
The backstory behind the main character was a typical cliche that obviously was used for the sole purpose of explaining why she was where she was. It was such an overused sub-plot I started getting annoyed whenever it came up.
The ending was even more confusing. Granted, I skipped ahead a little cause it was boring, but how it ends leaves you scratching your head as to who the bad guy was.
A Man Called Otto (2022)
Beautiful, sad and true
Out of all the TV shows and movies I've seen, never has there been an attempted suicide at the beginning of the movie. That was really unexpected, and frankly, there needed to be a huge disclaimer for this movie about all of the attempted suicide scenes. It's kinda wild that they have a guy hang himself and there's zero warning before it.
The story is beautiful and 100% accurate. My uncle lost his wife and he is miserable. Has no friends, no social life, nothing. I honestly think at some point he might do something. People don't understand how powerful love and grief can be.
Americans are prudes when it comes to suicide. The majority would rather pretend suicide doesn't happen, lets not talk about it at all. This movie helps shed light on something real, on something that can happen to anyone.
Movie wise I do think it's cliche that this random pregnant lady shows up and is now a figure in his life preventing him from leaving, but I get it, they did it for the story.
13 Minutes (2021)
What is this a movie against southerners?
I'd like the time I spent watching this back. It's an awful stereotypical play on southerners. Granted, some of it is true, but it is absurd just how much of the Southern stereotype they covered. It felt less like a weather movie and more like "here is your typical southern folk."
What really annoyed me was their son came out as gay, and instantly they disowned him. Even after the tornado, they were like "Nah bro, wish you had died." Why was Trace Adkins in this? Love his music, but he is not an actor.
This entire movie is stupid and has no real reason to exist. You don't connect with the characters, you don't even care about them. There is honestly so much I could point out, but I don't care enough about this train wreck of a movie.
Elser (2015)
Beautifully sad movie
I simultaneously love and hate watching these movies. I love learning about history and seeing all of the good and bad things we, as humanity, have done. However, I truly, deeply can't stand Nazi based movies and seeing their atrocities because it enrages me to no extent.
I will never, in my life, understand how you could do the things that they did and be okay with it. Torture, continued torture for a confession that doesn't exist, an straight up execution. If only he had succeeded and gotten rid of Hitler, truly a shame how some things don't go as planned.
It's sad that in this modern age, most people have forgotten what happened, or they ignore the past because it's just another thing to sweep under the rug.
97 Minutes (2023)
Not even worth watching 5 minutes of
This movie made no sense at all! For starters, we are thrown into it with zero build up. No proper character introduction or explanation.
Second, it was hilarious that the terrorists suspected/knew the one guy was a traitor. "One thing goes wrong? We have a traitor!" Why do you suspect him? Why do you think there's a traitor? Never explained.
Also, I found it appalling how INSTANTLY they wanted to shoot down a passenger plane full of people. Really, that was their first option? And then they end up shooting down a completely random, innocent plane.
This movie had potential, the concept is great. The execution was terrible and left me very disappointed.
Lou (2022)
Great movie, but not everything makes sense
I had never heard of Janney before, but her portrayal of Lou was really good! Her acting was top notch. Overall this was a very entertaining movie, but there was some questionable things.
For starters, the big reveal at the end didn't make a lot of sense. Okay, Lou's son is the bad guy here, but why? He really kidnapped his own daughter just to get revenge on his mommy? There's no logic there.
Something I noticed as well, when. Hannah is able to get her message out to the sheriff, we hear that everything is gibberish and garbled. Yet, somehow, the sheriff pieces everything together and knows what is happening. Logic?
So, Lou had some knowledge the CIA didn't want out. Alright, but "shoot on sight"? On American soil? CIA can't operated within the US.
I enjoyed the movie overall, but more could have been done so it made sense.
El recluso (2018)
Not worth watching
If I could rate it 0 stars I would. Nothing about this show makes sense. For starters, this US judge's daughter is kidnapped, but..why? It was never actually revealed what the grand plan was with her. Further, it was even more unrealistic that literally everyone who found out about her was like "What are you doing? Eh it's okay!"
EVERYONE looked the other way, no one questioned anything. No authorities cared, nothing. I know corruption in Mexico is big, but even the Warden? That's a joke. This show was designed in a way that made it so everyone was against the main character, and it's so dumb! There's no logic behind it.
What also made me laugh was that Dante and the prison chick ended up kissing and together. Really? There was zero build up of their relationship, nothing to imply they liked each other. But okay, lets throw this kiss in randomly.
Also, why was the daughter held at the prison? And why were the inmates just like "This is fine!" The cherry on top of this stupidity is that at the end, NOTHING is explained. There's no proper conclusion, it's just "I have snuck out of prison, coooool!" This was an awful show.
Im Westen nichts Neues (2022)
The harsh reality of our world
Beautiful and sad movie. I've never been anti war, or really had an opinion on it. But as I get older, and I hear more and more about war and its tragedies, I find myself angrier. The ending, the General forcing his troops to make one final push before the armistice enraged me. Our leaders, regardless of the country, always push for bloodshed from the front line soldiers, but they themselves have never spilled blood. It's insulting.
This was an incredible movie, though, and I completely support the anti war sentiment. There have been so many unneeded deaths due to wars, and the olny people who profit are the leaders.
The Imperfects (2022)
Nothing about this show makes sense
Reading other people's reviews tell me they are casual viewers and not hardcore show/movie buffs. This show made absolutely no sense. For starters, all of the main characters know each other right away. There's no build up, no explanation, just "hi guys".
The thing that really floored me, and was the least realistic was that ALL of their parents blindly signed consent that their kids can be experimented on. Really? I could understand if one of their moms/dads didn't care about them, but they literally show Juan's family and that they care. Juan's parents never would have signed that. Point is, not all parents would have thought 'this is okay!'
Speaking of Juan and his family, it is atrocious how he was the only character to have SOME depth to him. Tilda and Abbi? Nah, no background. Nothing. It's so weird that they gave Juan a little bit of character background, but none to the others.
Something else that was stupid was that in the beginning, Tilda struggled with her powers. But then, magically, she is in full control of them. Zero explanation, just "oh hey, I can control it now!" Really?
And then you have Juan's girlfriend who isn't at all freaked out by him being a chupacabra, but is...turned on by it? Honestly, I got the impression she asked him at least once to do her from behind while he was the chupacabra.
Also his niece. She finds out and isn't at all scared or questioning? She shrugs and is fine with it?
I found Tilda's alcohol obsession to be really distasteful. These are supposed to be children, right? So, why is she drinking alcohol? Further, it was never explained WHY she was an alcoholic.
Finally, the entire story/plot made no sense at all, and this is further enhanced by the final episode. We were led to believe they got cured of their powers, but then magically, they all get them again and are now the masters of using each one. What a joke of a show.
Kaleidoscope (2023)
Unique show with a great story
Words cannot express how much I enjoyed this show. Giancarlo and Rufus were AMAZING together! I loved their characters and I loved the portrayal. This is one of those shows where only specific actors can make the characters work. Both men NAILED it. Had it been anyone else, it wouldn't have been the same.
I usually hate episodes which skip around, as it can get confusing. Oddly, Kaleidoscope did it in a way where it worked flawlessly. I had no trouble knowing what part of the story we were in where in the timeline it took place. I also love how each episode was named based off colors. Really unique concept.
My biggest complaint was Abassi, her storyline pissed me off and it made no sense. She had an unhealthy obsession with catching the crew, one that went into illegal territory. She had someone deported for no reason other than to get revenge. I don't know if her character was set up specifically to make people sympathetic towards the heist crew, but either way, she is by far the most hated and annoying character.
In all, this is one of my favorite shows I've seen. Storytelling was one of the best.
The Stranger (2020)
Fantastic show with a good story.
This show was AMAZING! One of my favorites. The story was realistic and kept you hooked, wanting to see what exactly happened and having things answered. All of the casting choices were great, I thought everyone fit their character perfectly.
My biggest complaint was the lack of justice towards "The Stranger". She ruined countless people's lives, harassed and blackmailed them, and she gets to walk away? Absolute garbage. At the very most she should have been arrested.
All in all, though, I did really enjoy it and practically binged within a few days. There was one story point that wasn't concluded involving Katz, bu I can live with it.
Upload (2020)
Unique spin on whhat the future could be like
It's your typical take on the future and how it could look, but with a twist. I have to give this show credit, aside from the digital afterlife aspect, a lot of the futuristic aspects in the show are things we could - at least I hope - eventually see in real life, like robotic cashiers, machines that tell you how much of something you need, etc.
Spoilers ahead!!!!! A very weird part to me is the digital afterlife that your family has to keep paying for otherwise you get downgraded to the VR equivalent of homeless? It's so freaking weird. If their family stops paying, why not remove the person from the world? Why degrade them to what looks like a jail cell?
I hated, HATED ingrid. I still think she had something to do with his death.
Locked Up (2017)
Good concept, but certain scenes could've been left out
When I first heard of this movie, it was definitely something that sounded like I'd enjoy. I can deal with nudity, I could care less if movies have it. However, I felt the nudity in this was over saturated. I was also taken very off guard by the sex scenes, which includes the gang rape. While penetration was not shown, you know what's happening. The nudity and sexual content was just too much, and really felt like this was more of a porno. I understand wanting to showcase the corruption and problems, but it was just too much.
I enjoyed the story and the idea, but feel the nudity could've been toned down and the sexual content implied only.
