Outlander (2014)
One of the best shows I've seen
I see why so many people love this series. The storyline, acting, writing, clever dialogue, directing, cinematography, character development, subtle Easter eggs and callbacks, etc... This is one of the most beautiful and well done series I've ever seen on TV. The earlier seasons are so perfectly done in my opinion. There area few things I disliked about the seasons after season 3 (Questionable casting choices of major characters and whatnot). Later seasons have a few episodes where there are unnecessary scenes that I assume are used as fillers, but it doesn't take away from the storyline progression. Aside from those small negatives of the series, this show has quickly become one of my favorites that I can't wait to rewatch.
Lucifer: Buckets of Baggage (2021)
Boring and offensive
There was a lot that bothered me about this episode.
There are two VERY offensive male characters in this episode who puts on womenface and push sexist and harmful stereotypes about women. One of the characters starts talking about how he's going to change the world by dressing up as a women. It's terrible writing and I expected better from the series. Much like the previous episode, the entire atmosphere of the series has changed. I realize that the writers are trying to wrap up the series, but so far it has felt like it's dragging. Characters spend too much time repeating information that was previously given and it feels much slower than previous seasons.
One thing I did like about the episode was the introduction of a new villain to the series. It makes me look forward to what the series has in store for this new villian. But aside from the new character introduction, the episode was offensive and boring.
Fresh (2022)
Underrated Favorite!
There was something so different and unique about this film. Going into this film, I knew absolutely nothing about it. I had no idea Mimi Cave directed it or who she was, but I feel that the horror genre from a female perspective is what made this film so interesting to watch. It was one of the most creative takes on horror that I've seen from this genre. The cinematography was brilliant, there were amazing character performances put on by the cast, and the soundtrack matched the film perfectly. I do not like horror movies personally, but this was one of the few exceptions because of how tastefully done the horror was. The horror in this film was intentional and selective, showing no more than what needed to be shown, but just enough to leave me feeling uneasy as a viewer.
This was not your typical mindless-horror film that the genre is all-too oversaturated with. There wasn't an unnecessary amount of violence and sex, no misogynistic portrayals of female characters that was intended for male viewers. There were many moral questions hidden in the horror, as well as references to modern societal issues. I loved how the film touched on issues particularly regarding modern dating and the many fears woman face in the dating world. I've always joked with other woman that you never know if the person you "swiped right" on is actually a serial killer cannibal meat farmer. This film explores the horrors of that possibility in an artistic way!
Don Quixote (Kitri's Wedding), a Ballet in Three Acts (1984)
Favorite ballet
One of my favorite ballets! Baryshnikov and Harvey are absolutely outstanding!
