The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023)
Much better than expected
Did not have much expectations from the movie, however the movie was actually very good. For fans of Mario you will find several instances of nostalgia and references from the game. If you just want to follow the script it does elicit a few laughs and is great fun to watch with family and kids. Overall a totally enjoyable experience with many characters from the game and adventures for Mario and Luigi to take on. Grab some popcorn and enjoy the movie with family. It is fun, entertaining and has a decent story line. Don't expect a Pixar or a Disney and this movie stands on it's own. Enjoy it and have fun.
Bullet Train (2022)
Amazing ride.
The movie is exceptional in being loud, boisterous, explosive, witty, hilarious, action packed, unique, over the top and is just a glorious mix of exceptional editing and special effects that will leave you mesmerized, aghast, laughing - all at the same time !
You cannot be disappointed watching this movie. If you are then you probably needed a different movie for your day. Give it a watch when you just want to watch something.
The story builds itself in a train and everything happens with the train. The characters are introduced in the train and their back stories zoom out and bring them back to the train. It is a spaghetti that you need to roll up to enjoy.
What a blast !
Runway 34 (2022)
Decent aviation thriller
The movie does justice to itself by not following the typical Bollywood tales of yore. It is fast, cinematographic, has some crisp editing, great special effects ( albeit with lots of liberty on aircraft details), and a decent exchange between the lead actors. For the most part the aviation scenes in the movie are exceptional in terms of what has been shown to Indian audiences before. Si bravo to the team for some excellent work. The inquiry scenes were decent but could have been much better. The background score kept the movie ticking along to a good beat.
Overall a decent and engaging watch.
Brahmastra Part One: Shiva (2022)
Stunning visuals, Stupendous premise, Silly script
The promise of a VFX universe at par with perhaps Marvel Universe is the awe inspiring premise that the film builds upon. The visuals are stunning and of top notch quality not seen before in Indian cinema. Combining them with myths, fables of yore would have been an impressive feat and that's where the movie loses its plot
The overall premise has superb promise. Unfortunately to cater to a wider audience perhaps there is too much focus on everything which is irrelevant to the movie including the emotional drama, dance and music. If the script writers had instead focussed on developing the plot delving deeper into the astras this movie had all the ingredients to set up a breathtaking enterprise for the ages.
The music and VFX in certain scenes combined with almost magical effect. Kudos to the vision of the director and all technicians to that.
The plot disappoints and the script writing focussed too much on the central characters useless romanticism and using banal terms like 'on' and 'light' to make it laughable.
Indian audiences are smarter than this now but some directors just don't seem to get the message. Truly disappointed because the premise is amazing and the VFX are glorious.
Gehraiyaan (2022)
Watch it once
Not many folks will like this movie or appreciate it. However the actors have done a tremendous job bringing their characters to life aided by some good writing and directing. The inter-personal relationships portrayed are well drawn out and hover on ludicrous but still manage to keep sanity for the most part.
Overall it is a decent fare and can keep one engaged. Some great performances.
Shikara (2020)
Unjust and frivolous
The movie attempts to showcase itself as deciphering a painful and tragic timeline in history and fails miserably in terms of storyline, plot and direction. In the end it trivializes the trauma and comes across as a useless narrative on an otherwise sensitive subject. Vidhu Vinod Chopra dissapoints on all fronts.
Late Night (2019)
Nice watch
The movie has good performances and touches a lot of themes with a touch of humor. The writing is smart, actors are great and there a few laughs in and about. In all it is a decent watch and it probably doesn't deserve the low ratings here.
The Capture (2019)
Intriguing, brilliant start with an okay ending.
The shows premise is brilliant and relevant to the times. The cast, acting and direction are all brilliant as well.
The plot, execution start off at a high but end with a slight whimper probably as a hook to another season.
There side stories are interwoven well enough but some are left hanging. It is definitely worth a watch and worth the time.
The show has many positives to watch out for.
Special OPS (2020)
Brain dead
Not sure how people can rate this so highly and the comparisons with family man are really unwarranted as that series is in its own league.
Now this particular series is probably enjoyable to all those who are left yearning for brain dead bollywood movies of that past. There really is not that much in this show worth watching with predictable acting, the usual stereotypes and dumb plots.
Xiao men shen (2015)
Kids will enjoy it
The movie is not as bad as the other reviews have stated. It does start slowly but once the main theme has caught on it does take on its own original theme. The animation is nice and the dubbing could have been better but the kids will enjoy it nevertheless.
The Upside (2017)
The movie is worth a watch
The movie is well made, great direction and awesome work from all the lead and supporting actors. The movie has several bright parts, comic moments and touches tragedies with a light finesse.
Paatal Lok (2020)
It's okay not sure what the hype is about
The series is mediocre at best. Sure there are some strong actors and scenes in there but the story isnt that great or thrilling. Amplification of some story scenes including rape, sodomy etc may have pushed this series to gather more viewers however content is not really the king here. The actors though are great in their roles.
The series is okay there are better ones on prime. It's hyped definitely.

Great work
The script and the actors tell a tale that must be told. The director weaves it all together with perfection. It is a good watch with a noteworthy plot. It is not an entertainment drama but the subject and it's treatment makes this a must watch for many.
Mirzapur (2018)
Pretty darn good
Another interesting series from Amazon prime. This series is pretty darn good. The actors, the direction, the screenplay, the visuals, everything make up for a great watch. Kudos to all those involved.
The Family Man (2019)
Well executed thriller
Wow! This was a great surprise and probably the dose the Indian television was waiting for. The series is extremely well written with an awesome supporting star cast. It manages to hold several story lines in parallel to the main plot. The supporting story lines complement the narrative.
The landscape shots are amazing and the editing and camera work is excellent as well.
This is probably one of the best thriller tv web series made yet.
Shout-out to all the actors including the kids. Excellent !
Inside Edge (2017)
Season 2 is crickastic !
Season1 was a bit meh with the storyline attempting to shock and seduce with random scenes but for cricket fans the core cricket setup of analysis, team play, strategy showed promise.
And that's exactly what Season2 capitalized on. MoneyBall ! Oh boy for the cricket fans this is a great ride with the ups and downs of betting, doping, fixing, gameplay etc. The backdrop stories had considerably improved with a very impressive new supporting cast. Season2 is very well executed and shows great promise and was fun to watch. Had enough turns and twists till the very end
Jack Ryan (2018)
Season 1 is great
The 1st season has all the right ingredients for a fast packed action thriller with great acting from all. The plot grabs one in and is backed by an awesome cast and setting. I was surprised how good this is.
Kalank (2019)
Visual treats make it worth a watch
The movie is set at scale, visually and aesthetically magnificient scale. Kudos to all those involved in some real breathtaking visual pieces tied together with decent background music ( not the usual kj nonsense). The mlvie did have its dose of the usual kj nonsense though, the wierdish gladioric bull scene and the ddlj train just had to be there.
Apart from that the performances from the leads were pretty good. The story could have done with a bit better storyline ( there isnt much new there) but oh boy the visuals are awesome !
Bombairiya (2019)
Worth a watch
The movie is a bit fast paced and probably uncomfortable genre for some but it is well made with some great work by most of the actors involved. The plot is a bit convoluted but has enough in it, set at a decent pace with interesting moments and characters.
Overall the movie is probably worth a one time watch, there are quite a few smirks, possibly laughs in the plot but the overall premise and acting, especially from Radhika Apte, is way better than the usual churn of the mill.
Notebook (2019)
Nice watch
Beautifully shot and a decent but more importantly different story line set against a very complex backdrop the newer actors have show both charm and talent. The younger actors also contribute towards the storyline in amusing ways. The movie is definitely worth a watch and kudos to the entire team from direction, cinematography, music and acting.
Sherlock (2010)
Good Stuff
I must say given the 90 minute plots, the initial episodes in Season 1 may have dragged. The subtle jokes, splendid adaption to a modern setting, great acting made me stay on.
Season 2 is where this show really crosses over and transcends itself to be both thrilling and entertaining. The brisk pace, animations, tight screenplay, excellent characters , plot and acting leave u wanting for more than 90 minutes !
Outstanding !!
Sherlock Holmes is good stuff and just wish they had more shows in a season and is a worthy modern adaption.
Aurangzeb (2013)
Nice watch
This movie is pleasantly good. With some tight direction, great editing and tremendous acting the loose script can be given a chance because it is much better than the normal fare that bollywood produces. Given that context the rating for this move is right up there, although it does have the usual undercurrents of drama and emotion which sometimes drag upon you. The movie is still enjoyable and its story about politics and power in modern developing India looks authentic in most parts and can be forgiven for the rest. The actors have all done a good job and its really top-notch. This movie is a good worthy watch and you should not be disappointed.
Apocalypto (2006)
Fast Paced Thriller
Kudos to Mel Gibson for creating an authentic amazon setting complete with rituals, tools, warfare and language. The movie develops pace along with the plot and reveals itself as a thriller in an unconventional sense. The acting and settings are superb and the attention to detail is refreshing. There may be a few nuances that would seem out of place but overall this movie works because the action, the background score, the acting and direction come all together to give a refreshing piece of cinema. There is a little bit of caution advised for those who cannot stand the sight of blood and gore in much detail because it does drag on for a little while. But that only adds authenticity to the overall story. Watch it !
