Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
An interesting film with unique ideas!
Title, Themes, Acting, Cinematography, Story, Make-up, Costumes... such a perfect mess. It's hard to find an original story like this nowadays. To write a script this complex and to produce it would also be challenging. However, the directors and producers pulled it off perfectly.
The film belongs to multiple film genres such as comedy, action, fantasy, drama etc. EEOA also references movies like In the Mood for Love, The Matrix, and 2001: Space Odyssey.
The visuals are very much similar and most probably inspired by Wong-Kar Wai
About the chapters of the film, the last act/chapter is the most enthralling for me with the first act being a lil bit off. Most importantly, the acting of Hsu as Jobu Tupaki standout of all and is not talked enough.
The Sixth Sense (1999)
From the king of plot twist!
Such an incredible ending and totally unexpected. There are hardly any plot holes throughout the movie unlike most films that have a plot twist. With this, the acting of Bruce Willis and Haley Joel Osment makes the film even more interesting.
The film follows a mentally disturbed 8 year old kid (Cole Sear) who believes that he can see and communicate with the dead. He is being consulted by a child psychologist (Dr Malcolm Crowe) who then learns from the kid about this. On the other side, Dr Malcolm Crowe's marriage was falling apart as he wasn't able to give enough time for his wife due to his obsession with his work. By the end of the film, Malcolm knows the situation he's in and how things revolved around him without him knowing anything.
Donnie Darko (2001)
Solve this rather than experiencing this!
Simply put like this; it's a mind-blowing masterpiece. Initially, the movie was not much popular among moviegoers which resulted in making much less at the box office than it truly deserved. However, as time passed by and when it became well known in households (i.e. Due to the release of DVD), it became a hit with critics as well as audiences alike. It's also buzz-worthy because the movie has different interpretations for its viewers to converse with each other. Its complexity requires solving, as in mazes, but there is no solid conclusion as a result of its ambiguous ending. The film itself deals with the theme of time traveling and it feels like the whole movie is kind of a loop. What's truly amazing about a movie dealing with such a complicated subject is that I hardly found any plot holes in it. As a side note, the lead acting of Jake Gyllenhaal is amazing since he stands out from the rest of the cast (he played the role of a mentally disturbed teenager)
La haine (1995)
If you want to know what it's like in the French streets during 90s, watch it!
La Haine (1995)
La Haine is one of those movies that is flawless, but less talked about. Most notably, the ending is surprising, mainly because there are not many actions or twists prior to that. The acting of Vincent Cassel stands out compared to the remaining two leads. Overall, the movie is mediocre, at least for me, all because I love films that have some suspense and interesting storyline in it.
About the synopsis, the film's three primary characters are racially inclusive and consist of a Jew, an African, and lastly, a Muslim who are all from the working class. The movie shows how these three spent their daily life in the Paris ghetto/suburbs while others who are likewise protested and confronted the police because of the state violence, that led to the death of a Muslim. The whole film is shot in monochrome and the plot is set for 24 hours. For the entirety of the film, characters develop, most importantly, Vinz who is played by Vincent Cassel. The character transforms from a friendly persona to someone who is filled with rage and hate, all because of how the community, especially the law enforcement agencies mistreat those who are in the working class.
Shahsiyet (2018)
Truly phenomenal! Utterly perfect story development
Deserved to be on the top tier besides crime mysteries like True Detective, Fargo etc. Story development throughout the series from the beginning to the end is spectacular. Then there's the acting, especially of the lead actor who reminds me of Hannibal Lector from The Silence of the Lambs.
Pride & Prejudice (2005)
An underrated drama film!
This would be in the top 5 of the romantic dramas I've watched. The plot is not boring and the cinematography is also great. Needless to say, the acting of lead characters are marvelous. Also, the costume design and makeup is as well mesmerizing.
WolfWalkers (2020)
Enjoyable movie!
Exciting movie with a plot that isn't much complicated but is a little bit predictable. Animation of the film exceeds in relation to other films of that year.
T2 Trainspotting (2017)
Enjoyable Prequel movie
T2 Trainspotting is a great drama film but never exceed the quality of it's prequel film. Sceneries and visuals are great as well as the storyline. The acting is not bad either but not outstanding.
Trainspotting (1996)
With That, Mark Renton Had Fallen in Love!
A movie doesn't need a thrilling plot twist to be a masterpiece and this is a perfect example. You won't see many unexpected events nor suspenseful scenes in Trainspotting. Yet, you will be indulged in the film because the storyline is very compelling pertaining mostly because of the narrative which contains so many thoughtful lines/quotes. Besides, the cinematography of the film is great especially when the whole gang is in one frame. I'm certain that you'll be moved and inspired by the film.
Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021)
Not interesting at all!
The plot of the movie is mediocre with poor visuals. Furthermore, some of the dialogues are confusing because both symbiote and the host are talking at the same time. However, it introduces the great archenemy of Venom. By the end of the movie, another Marvel Symbiote, Toxin is introduced within the host Detective Mulligan.
Spider-Man 3 (2007)
The least favorite of the Sam Raimi's Spiderman Trilogy
The quality of the film is much lower in relative to the previous films in the trilogy. There are too many heroes and villain characters in the film with poor humour that makes less sense.
Spider-Man 2 (2004)
Great but not greater than Spiderman (2002)
Much better compared to other superhero movies. The villain is also cool but inferior in terms of acting by Willem Dafoe as Green Goblin. Nonetheless, the visual of the film exceeds the film that precedes this one greatly.
Spider-Man (2002)
Beautiful as well as Romantic
For me, the best Spider-Man movie in Sam Raimi's trilogy. The reason why it exceed all other films in this trilogy is because it has an exciting storyline and also a thrilling villain (Green Goblin). Not to mention that it has great quotes, especially the final line in the film.
Trois couleurs: Rouge (1994)
Cinema at its finest! Perfection! Full score!
Unarguably, the magnum opus of Krzysztof Kieslowski's film catalogue. Still stunned on how Kieslowski managed to connect the entire trilogy at the end of this film. The visuals of the film are flawless with the use of warm colors, especially red hue. This can be seen from the most prominent shot of the movie which is the photograph Valentine took for the chewing gum ad and it's corresponding frame shown during the rescue of Valentine. The thematic representation (Fraternity) of the film is super extensive. Even The telephone call which is shown at the beginning portray that everyone is connected either intentionally or unintentionally.
This is the third film of the three colors trilogy which follows the motto of the France 'Freedom, Equality, Fraternity'. This is the only movie other than Fanny and Alexander (1982) which score 100 in both Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic.
In this film, the director emphasizes on the interconnected lives of different people as a ramification of fate, destiny and chance. Each of the characters in the film is somehow interconnected with or without their knowledge. Even the retired judge, Kern and his alter ego/reincarnation, Auguste.
Throughout the film, most captivating performance is from Kern and Valentine. Kern tries to play 'god' but redeems due to the compassion and kindness of Valentine. The main theme of the film 'fraternity/connection' is further implemented at the end when both neighbors, Valentine and Auguste meet each other for the first time after their ferry got capsized (unintentional connections). Even more fascinating is that Auguste (also a judge) was overseeing the class-action lawsuit filed against Kern by his neighbors due to spying.
Valentine, Kern, Auguste, his lover Karin, and the protagonists of the preceding two films were brought together through destiny and fate. Even more, Valentine, Kern and Auguste were also interrelated by chance.
Trois couleurs: Blanc (1994)
Second film of the Three Colors trilogy, directed by Kieslowski. A great comedy drama heavily reliant on it's story.
Three Colors: White (1994) is the second film of the Three Colors trilogy, followed by Three Colors: Blue (1993) and Three Colors: Red (1994). The movie title refers to the second color of the French flag, and represents the second term/word of the French Motto 'Equality'. In fact, that is the main theme or the idea that alludes the film. Equality through revenge.
In contrast to Three Colors: Blue (1993) which uses dark tone (blue shades), this film comprises of much lighter tones in the scenes. In addition, this film is the only comedy in the trilogy. The film relies mainly on its plot/story unlike Three Colors: Blue (1993) which emphasizes the emotions and the psychological personality of the lead actress. Furthermore, Three Colors: White (1994) focuses on the lead actor while giving much lesser screen-time for the lead actress. The film is much better than Three Colors: Blue (1993) in terms of the plot. Despite that, the film is widely considered as the least favorite by most movie critics.
Three Colors: White (1994) is a revenge story of a Polish immigrant-hairdresser named Karol Karol who got sued for divorce by his French wife, Dominique due to his impotency and the inability to consummate. Because of the divorce, he had no home and had his bank account frozen. Also, his wife, Dominique framed him for arson by deliberately setting fire on their salon. With the help of a wealthy Pole known as Mikolaj, Karol escapes to Poland (by hiding inside his own suitcase). After spending some time in Warsaw, he got rich and started a partnership business with Mikolaj. He then frames Dominique by faking his death while amending his will to let Dominique have all his property as a pretext. Due to this suspicion, Dominique went to jail. However, in the end, Dominique reveals that she finally wanted to remarry Karol. Hence, the revenge affected both equally which is also the theme of this film (i.e. Equality).
Trois couleurs: Bleu (1993)
A film about emotional liberty 🇫🇷 The first color of the France's flag
Three Colors: Blue (1993) is the first film of the Three Colors triptych followed by Three Colors: White (1994) and Three Colors: Red (1994). The three colors represents the French Flag which also consists of Blue, White and Red. At the same time, the each film represent the France's national motto of 'Liberty', 'Equality' and 'Fraternity' respectively. Besides, each film in the trilogy extensively uses the hues/color filter of it's title.
In Three Colors: Blue, Julie is haunted by the death of her husband Patrice, a prominent composer, and her daughter Anna due to an accident. She was the only one survived and so, she does everything to free her from the haunted past. She removed her ties connecting to the past by moving to a flat in Paris as well as by selling off her property except for her daughter's blue beads/diamonds. However, she finds herself bonding with other humans connections.
As Kieslowski stated, the film is about emotional liberty. Hence, she 'rebirth' in a new life where she got the freedom "to do anything she want which is nothing". She was free of her family responsibilities after the death of Patrice and Anna, but only to do nothing about building a new life. However, as things unfold, she finds herself connecting with other humans, mainly due to her kindness and generosity.
To sum up, I recommend this work of art to anyone who is a fan of Psychological Dramas.
Krótki film o zabijaniu (1988)
Note: not a thriller, but an emotional crime drama
The film captures the life of 3 man, a homeless wanderer (Jacek), taxi driver (Waldemar) and a passionate lawyer (Piotr) and how those 3 life intersect each other. To be brief, Jacek murders Waldemar and later, Piotr represent Jacek as his criminal defense lawyer.
Most significantly, the film shows how the death of Jacek's little sister took a mental toll on him which also exacerbated because she died due to his drunken friend. Subsequently, this created a soft spot in Jacek for kids. However, at the same time, this led him to violence.
The release of this film provoked and resulted in the suspension of capital punishment in Poland at the time. The sorrow emotions and feelings of Jacek captured in the film transcends that of other Kieslowski's films as well as of any other Polish film.
Krótki film o milosci (1988)
A romantic masterpiece from Kieslowski
This romantic drama film is a rare gem. It is emotional as well as interesting even though the plot has a slow pace. The film revolves around a virgin boy named Tomek who fell in love with a promiscuous lady (Magda) after watching her daily life from across his apartment. The ending is a fairy tale that Magda dreams/wishes for on how her life should be.
La double vie de Véronique (1991)
Weronika & Veronique. That's the double life!
This movie is a masterpiece. The plot is also interesting even-though there is not much suspense in it. The direction of Krzysztof Kieslowski and the ending is also magnificent. The cinematography of the film is state of the art for the 90s era. In addition, the title of the film is also relevant to the whole plot.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021)
Recommendable compared to other typical MCU movies
The movie is much better compared to Black Widow which was released prior to this in the MCU Phase 3. The action scenes in the film is also fine while the storyline is also not boring.
Black Widow (2021)
An average movie with humor that don't even make sense
An average movie, with bad humor. Much like a family movie rather than the so called 'Cinema'. Same Like Most other marvel movies without much interesting storyline.
Gokseong (2016)
Superb movie with great visuals and a plot twisting end!
The Wailing (2016) is a Korean horror film which has an interesting and suspenseful plot. The film also has beautiful visuals and transition shots. This is surely one of the best Korean Horror Films I have watched. Plus, the ending of the movie is mind-blowing 🌀
Busanhaeng (2016)
Great horror film!
Train to Busan (2016) is a great emotional horror film that also consists of many thrilling scenes. The whole story is good compared to other average horror movies. The locations and visuals of the movie are also above average.
Hanyo (1960)
A film that's well-blended into 2 genres: Drama & Thriller
A classic Korean drama+thriller of 1960s. The film captures audience attention through suspenseful events which makes the plot interesting. The final part of the film is more exciting and twisting.
Beoning (2018)
A Mystery Film
Burning (2018) is a slow-paced Korean Movie. In the film, the lead character, Jong-su tries to find out what happened to Hae-mi who disappeared without any trace. There is also a mysterious supporting character (Ben) who Jong-su is suspicious of murdering Hae-mi.
Despite it being slow paced, the film is interesting, especially near the ending.
