Peppermint (2018)
Why Wasn't This Publicized More.
Good action/adventure movie. For a change, like SALT, the hero is a tough woman. Reminiscent of the Equalizer films in that there is revenge for a severe wrong to people important the lead character, but with a strong desire to help the oppressed or lost in our society. This time, though, our hero is a woman. She spends the needed time to prepare, then deals with the villains appropriately.
As with all good revenge films, evil is seen as it is: evil, and good, while seen as weaker, triumphs.
I find no major faults in this movie. The acting is convincing, the storyline is good and reflects some of the challenges we see to our justice system every day, the character development is sufficient yet brief enough that they get to the action quickly. Well done.
Reprisal (2018)
Bruce alone is worth a two
Poorly written but okay on the acting. The score was a little too military for my taste and overly macho in spots. There aren't a lot of basic plots to be had put there for action movies, but this one kind of misses the point. They spend the first half of the movie dancing around the problem instead of building a solid overpowering reason for the hero to be forced into action.
This film tells you what 5o be concerned about, but the concern isn't all that important. The sort of saving storyline doesn't appear until the last 20 minutes, and even then, it's played as a sideline issue.
The director seemed intent on telling what each side, good and evil, was doing at the same moment. To do this, he/she had the editor constantly switch back and forth between the bad guy and the good guy, the family and the bad guy, and on and on. I've seen this technique done effectively in other films to build tension. In Reprisal, it just builds confusion.
So, I'm keeping the two rating simply because Mr Willis is in it.
Lethal Weapon (2016)
Excellent show.............was
Crawford is gone and with him the charm of the best buddy series perhaps since Alias Smith and Jones.
The first season was absolutely awesome. I liked it better than any of the movies, and I love the movies. Then some of management, not to mention Wayans, had problems with Crawford. Eccentric actors in Hollywood.......Who would have thought? The new guy is as exciting to watch as an Alka Seltzer dissolving in a glass of water.
Bring back Riggs or just dump the series!
The West (1996)
The West?
Don't take the title of this series as indicative of what you'll see. This is 80% a video essay of the white man's I'll treatment of the Indians. "The Indians are kind and simple people slaughtered and persecuted, cheated and abused by the white man" is the clear theme. Sure white men achieved progress in the West, but, according to this series, only on the backs of Indians and other minorities.
The series skips gently over much of what we know as the Wild West. The Earps are mentioned and nothing more. Many of other notorious characters you would expect are completely ignored so that more time might be expended on the plight of the Indian.
Many advances were achieved by the white Americans. It's just that only a very few are mentioned in this series.
