Mommy, I Didn't Do It (2017)
A pretty decent lifetime film
Four years after the Wrong Woman (2013), Ellen Planview has finished law school and is looking forward to spending time with her 17 year old daughter Julie, before she goes to college. But things take when turn for the worst when she is arrested for her teacher's murder. Now Ellen must take what she has learnt from law school in order to defend her daughter.
As a whole, I thought this film was pretty decent. I didn't think the acting was bad at all. I was very impressed by the way she defended her daughter, pointing out all the flaws in the police investigation. My favorite part is when she brought up the fingerprints, how can they assume that she was in that car on the night of the murder based on the fingerprints. When he had given her a ride to tennis practice many times. I thought the daughter did do some stupid things, and at several points during the film, I was really unsure as to whether or not she really is guilty. But this was a very enjoyable film to watch from start to finish.
47 Meters Down (2017)
Acting killed it......
I wanted to like this film. The tension was pretty good, the jump scares with the shark were pretty good, but i'm sorry, the acting was just TERRIBLE. It was cringe-worthily bad. I do not know much of these 2 actresses, but whoever gave them a role in this film should be kicking themselves. This would have been a great film if they had found better actors.
Woman on the Run (2017)
Good film
I enjoyed this movie. A very interesting and original lifetime film. Just think of how crazy it is; you are attacked, and the next thing you know, someone else is pretending to be you and no one believes you. Plus they managed to hack all her photos and ID and replace her name. What a mess! I don't understand why she would not get a done a DNA test or have the kids vouch for her.
Lights Out (2016)
Utter crap....
I'm generally not a fan of these supernatural horror films, but I decided to give this one a go, and this film did not add any hope for me in this genre. I'm baffled by the good reviews this is getting. This has to be one of the most lamest horror movies I have ever seen. The acting is very pedestrian, and it's jump scares are just utterly laughable. There is no plot whatsoever, I was just waiting to see the whole film for some action to actually start rolling, but all I got was some lame jump scares every 15 minutes or so. Good thrillers, and even good movies in general, are supposed to follow a certain protocol; beginning is supposed to introduce us to the characters, build up the tension, get them in the setting. Around 25 minutes or so, the action is supposed to start rolling and not end until the final 15 minutes or so of the film. This films follows no structure whatsoever.
Anyway, like I said I'm not a fan of the supernatural horror films, not because it's not realistic, but because it's a lazy excuse for horror writing in general.
12 Feet Deep (2017)
Pretty good film, but the ending made me so angry.....
First of all, I really liked this movie. I was hoping it wouldn't be slow and boring like Open Water, and it was anything but. There was enough dialogue and action to keep me entertained throughout. The two actresses were amazing, and their acting was all very realistic. But just the ending made me so upset, I mean, this janitor lady nearly got you and your sister killed, and wouldn't budge on opening the cover on the pool no matter how much you plead, and you just let her go and forgive her? I would have made sure she paid dearly.
Don't Breathe (2016)
Didn't like it........
I seem to be in the minority, but I just truly did not like this film. And maybe it's just me, but using teen actors in a horror film like this always seem to be a downer. This is simply because most of them cannot act or they tend to overact and it quickly gets annoying. That was certainly the case here, with teen actors, it's just simply hard to sympathize with them from the start because their acting is so cringe-worthy. But let's talk about the film itself, shall we, the film is slow and boring, it takes about 30 minutes to get going, and when something finally does happen, it's nowhere near as intense as what it looks like. The fact that the bad guy is blind, what is that supposed to contribute to the film? Is it supposed to make the viewers feel sorry for him? What's the point of making a handicap for the bad guy? What, if he wasn't blind, he would have been able to easily see them and kill them? It makes no sense. In Hush, for example, even though I didn't like that film that much either, but it made sense to game the girl deaf because she was running from the bad guy, and it made the film more intense as they used the fact that she was deaf quite well in some scenes. But what is the point of making this guy blind, to add something unique to t he film? Fair enough, but to make him blind just takes out the fun a in a film like this. The fact that he is blind acts NOTHING to this film.
I'll end saying this, I can't really pin-point why I did not like this film. But, like I said, I found it slow and boring, and I never like teenage actors in horror films. In comedy films, they are fine, but in horror films, their acting never ever matches up, and you hardly ever feel sorry for them.
The Hitcher (2007)
Not bad for a remake
I know most remakes usually pale in comparison to the original, but this one wasn't bad at all. I don't really know so many people disliked this film. I thought it was a fun little B-movie, well worth a watch if you like these type of "run from killer" films. The movie obviously wasn't fantastic, I think they could have found better actors. But to complain about things not making sense or plot holes is silly, a movie is not meant for that, it's not meant for people who watch them to compare it to how things work in the real world. Movies are always just meant for enjoyment, and I enjoyed this film, to me, that's all that matters. If I cant enjoy something or get into it, I will not like it regardless if everything makes perfect sense and there are no plot holes.
ATM (2012)
Hated the ending......
This movie has probably one of the worst endings I have ever seen to a horror film. What happened to the guy that was arrested in the end, did he go down, did they catch the real killer? The movie never answered any of that. Why we never saw the killer's face? I have never seen a more incomplete ending to a horror film. It kills the movie, and also no reasons for the credits to be so long, I thought they were going to use that time to fully complete the ending. Anyway, beside the ending, it was a decent film. Would have been better if they had found better actors though.
P2 (2007)
A decent movie.......
This film actually reminds me a lot of "Vacancy" a movie which I really loved. With the cameras all around the garage, the 2 police officers turning up in the middle, things like car and cell-phone breaking down. and an intense game of cat and mouse. Anyway, I did enjoy this movie, it's well worth a watch if you like thriller movies. I was expecting this to be more of a psychological thriller rather than an action thriller.
Ratter (2015)
I wish i could rate it zero
This is the most dullest, boring movie I have ever seen. How on earth can you call this movie a thriller/horror? Nothing happens at all, throughout the film, it's just her recording her boring everyday life, while supposedly being "stalked." It was like watching some kind of high school project, rather than a movie. Totally sucks, and very disappointing too.
The Last House on the Left (1972)
Very disturbing movie with no real plot......
Under different circumstances, I would have given this movie a slightly better rating, but it leads a lot to be desired. It's just disturbing and gruesome. There's no suspense, no plot, the movie doesn't go anywhere. It's literally like watching it just for the torture. A good movie is supposed to build up tension and the plot. This movie does not do that. I'm not a big fan of gore in horror movies as there are much better ways to make it scarier and build suspense at the same time.
Frozen (2010)
Horrible
Terrible, terrible movie. I can't believe so many people gave this film so many positive reviews. The acting was horrible, the script was poorly written, and the film followed no plot whatsoever. Whatever you do, don't watch it - it is not worth the time, patience or money. I felt like I was watching a train-wreck waiting to explode watching this film. It hurt my brain that much.
I rated it 1, but only because I can't give it 0. Stay away at all cost.
The Shallows (2016)
I enjoyed it........
Reading IMDb reviews a lot, it seems a lot of people complain about the movie being "unrealistic." To me, because it's a movie, I don't see how it matters. Movies require unrealistic things that would probably not happen in real life in order to be entertaining. The shark attack in the beginning where it bit her leg and we saw a plethora of blood was not realistic because no one could survive such a attack like that. However, if the shark had eaten here there and then, there would be no movie. I enjoyed this movie, Black Lively's performance was great. Best shark movie I have seen, yes, I think Jaws was highly overrated.
8.5/10
Black Water (2007)
Good movie, but loses out on a few things
Well made film, despite the story-line being very basic. Basically, four people go on a fishing trip in a tiny boat into the mangroves, a crocodile flips their boat, the guide is eaten immediately. The three survivors climb a tree and try to find a way out of their situation. The husband gets impatient and trying the boat, but gets eaten by the croc. The other two, when they finally decide to get in the water, are nearly taken by the croc. The older sister suffers a severe injury to her leg which ultimately leads to her death. The Younger sister manages to get the guide's gun and kills the croc. Had some good jump scares here and there to make in an effective thriller. My complaint it is that the crocodile was very inconsistent, every time they showed the croc it looked different. It just looks dumb in my opinion. The crocodile is a character in this film as much as the others. To make it look different every- time when as far as the audience knew, there was only one croc, is not good. The other thing is they used real crocs, but real crocs don't really behave like what we saw in the movie at times. But I won't complain too much about that as horror/thriller movies require a lot of unrealistic things to be able to work. Also, the way she killed the croc to me was very predictable, it seemed obvious to pretty much everyone who watched the movie that the guide's gun was going to be what killed it. I would have liked something that was a bit less obvious. Otherwise, good film with a lot of suspense.
The Strangers (2008)
Not good
Rated with 3 only because of the beginning which made me jump a few times. I don't have any problems with cliché story lines that have been done 100 times before, all I care is how they execute it. And the execution here was very, very poor. There is nothing scary at all about the cat and mouse chase with the intruders. It's very slow paced, and the acting is horrible. A similar movie "Vacancy" was the same story line as this, and Vacancy was much, much, much better.
The Reef (2010)
Not great.....
I don't know why this movie is regarded as one of the best shark films. The pace is very slow, they didn't even realize a shark was there until about 50 minutes into the movie. The rest is just them swimming and swimming until they all die one by one. We do not see an actual attack here. I gave it 5 because it had a few good moments here and there.
I think Black Water was much better than this, although it's a croc film, the tension was built since the boat flipped early in the film. Here, no tension was built up at all until the shark showed 50 minutes in.
Hush (2016)
Okay, but not one I will remember/watch again
THis was an okay movie, but the complete use of silence is not really a killer for me. I prefer movie with a lot of jump scares and something that will make you go yell at the character like "Go, go run....." This movie did not do that for me. Also, I did not like how they unmasked the killer within only a few minutes after Maddie realized him. They should have kept the mask on for at least 25-30 minutes, and it would've been more scarier.
Vacancy (2007)
Terrific film
Amazing film. Truly a great, suspenseful thriller from the time the banging started to the end of the movie. This has to be the best thriller movie I have ever seen. Every second of the film is sick and has you on the edge of your seat. I liked how the film was not long, and yet still managed to gradually take it's time to develop into a nail-biting thriller. Really, really impressed with this film, and recommend anyone to watch it if you haven't already. By far the best part of the film is when they realize the snuff films, and the lights go out, and it goes on like that for a few seconds. I do not see how the realistic the movie is or the character's choices in the film can impact on how good the film was. A movie is supposed to be for entertainment, whether it's realistic or not doesn't matter as it's a movie, not real life.
