The Fame Game (2022)
Too much to unravel.
This review contains only minor spoilers, and I will try to keep them as few as possible.
An upright female cop investigates the kidnapping case of a Bollywood actor who has a husband, daughter, and son. The cop is lesbian, the son of the Bollywood actor is gay, and the husband is abusive.
Now couple this with thriller writing, good casting, and good acting and that's pretty much the whole show in a nutshell.
The show focuses on the lives of a Bollywood actor and her family and depicts how, after gaining so much fame and money, they're still vulnerable and face the same problems that regular people do.
Through this, Dharmatic Productions and Karan Johar have tried to do all of the following:
1. Convey how broken the lives of Bollywood celebrities are in the real world.
2. It is trying to generate empathy in viewers for real Bollywood celebrities.
3. Showing how the lives of star kids are more or less the same as regular kids, and sometimes star kids face more difficulty.
4. How the media harrases Bollywood celebrities
5. Discussing topics including same-sex marriage, feminism, mental health, sexual orientation, and true love.
The show consists of 8 episodes, with an average episode time length varying from 40-50 minutes, and for this many episodes, there are simply too many storylines and subplots being shown in the show.
The casting is great: there's Madhuri Dixit, Sanjay Kapoor, Manav Kaul, Rajshri Deshpande, and Suhasini Mulay. Every single actor is flawless in their acting. You won't feel bored watching this as it's a fast-paced show, but you may feel confused as there are many flashbacks in the show and it changes quickly and randomly.
The music, cinematography, and color grading are top-notch. This could be the Netflix effect, but I will give credit to Dharmatic also.
Madhuri Dixit is flawless, in this single show you can see her range of acting and expressions like never before, so it's a must-watch just for Mrs. Dixit alone.
Now let's come to the bad parts of this show, or should I say, the bad parts of this show.
First, there's too much going on. There are only 8 episodes and a heck of a tonne of subplots.
Second, lots of flashbacks, and I mean lots. Half of the show is shown in flashbacks, and I get it. It's a thriller and partly a crime show, so there are going to be some flashbacks, but there are a lot of flashbacks, and they just appear randomly and fade out randomly.
Third, Dharmatic and Karan Johar have tried too hard to generate empathy in viewers for Bollywood stars. KJO wants viewers to watch this show and praise real Bollywood stars for how difficult and enduring their lives are.
For people who are wondering why Netflix is so obsessed with KJO and making Dharma movies and shows - Netflix and KJO signed a long-term deal in 2019 to produce fiction and Non-Fiction movies and shows for Netflix.
In conclusion, watch it if you have some spare time and must watch it if you're a Madhuri Dixit admirer but there's going to be a heck ton of flashbacks and sub-plots in this.
Bob Lazar: Area 51 & Flying Saucers (2018)
Jeremy Corbell should jump off a cliff.
Such an interesting Topic and you got the man Bob Lazar himself and it's on Netflix but such and pathetic direction, any youtuber could've done better direction. This documentary had the potential to make career for Jeremy and he ruined it. It's like jeremy wants audience to see him and not Bob. Jeremy you're nothing, no one wants to see you. OKAY, so just go already and jump off a cliff.
Altered Carbon (2018)
Season 1 is a BLAST!
Season 1 is just pure great, due to following points i liked the season 1
1- The casting is very accurately picked
2- The script moves at continuous speed and doesn't let bore you
3- The character Development is very nicely done
4- The future is depicted as it will be
5- Compared to other shows which have all the time travel stuff this show leaves few plot holes
So if you have free time or you just want to see a sci-fi web series then this is it.
Bhaukaal (2020)
Should've been an netflix original.
Yes the show is so good and well crafted that you won't believe that is made by MX Player team.
For following points i liked the show
1- Culture and language grasp of the show is very much accurate
2- 30 Min per episode which is very much appreciated
3- Script is made so smoothly and it shows on the screen
4- Cast is new and refreshing to the eyes and everyone acted well
5- Finally the editing team at MX Player is just amazing, the cuts they've given are so well done, no extra shots.
6- Unlike Asur, Bhaukaal has a better budget
Just one con is that there are way too many long and numerous ads on mx player but hey they are giving us the show for free to watch so i think its acceptable.
If this review is helpful to you, i'm happy.
Marzi (2020)
It's so slow.
I don't consider it as a bad show but not as something great, if your'e on quarantine then well you can watch it.
1- The script is incredibly slow
2- The plot is clear from 2nd episode
3 - there should've been only 4-5 episodes
4- Outdoor shots are very less and only character focused shots are there which shows the lack of budget
5- Editing is very poor work, should've been 30 min per episode
6- Casting could've been better for characters
Well atleast voot is making attempts and for that i rate it at 6, Rest assured you won't be able to watch the 6th episode as it gets very boring.
Asur: Welcome to Your Dark Side (2020)
Entertainment at it's best.
Asur is a great show imo because of the following factors
1- Great cast
2- Great script
3- Clear understanding of indian mythology
4- Crisp and clear editing work
5- Arshad warsi as the lead
But where it fells short is that i think asur didn't have a lot of budget so the show doesn't have big shots or the more dramatic stuff that netflix and amazon prime shows have.
I would 100% Like to see the second season of Asur and thanks voot for casting arshad varsi, he is a fantastic actor but doesn't get many opportunities.
Student of the Year 2 (2019)
2.26 Hrs of complete nonsense.
1- Movie in which no actor knows acting
2- The lead actor of the film apparently just wants to show off his gymnastics.
3- This movie was released in cinema halls.
4- The price of tickets were 200-600
5- The songs were like half of the movie.
6- This movie will have a part 3 i.e SOTY3
Vodka Diaries (2018)
Great movie, good acting and measurably okay cinematic scenes.
Kay kay menon's acting is what will get you going through this movie, the plot is okay but you will find the movie somewhere moving slowly. Apart from that the cinematic scenes are well taken.
So if you're a fan of Kay Kay menon. Go ahead
Looking for a different concept film. Go ahead
Admires acting and cinematic process. Go ahead.
If you can't watch slow paced movies. Don't go ahead.
Whoop! (2018)
Change Genre in description.
First of all decide yourself what you want to do Acting or Comedy/Stand-Up. The only funny thing in this standup is that you realize this is a amazon prime show and you paid to watch it.
Zero Comedy, 100% Acting.
Abish i think you should try in Bollywood
I would also like to ask Amazon Prime Video why they picked abish when there are literally 100 comics better than him.
I don't hate abish, he is good at Talk Shows, but stand-up or comedy he can't really do. The show is a complete disaster and cringehall.
If there was a rating less than 1 Star i would've given it.
He acts to much which can be considered as overacting and slowly moves towards cringe, in the starting 10 Mins of the show you get to feel cringe.
It's upto you if you want to watch, consider this as a spoiler.
