Madame Web (2024)
I nearly lost it
Aside from Dakota Johnson's calm demeanor (which her profession as a paramedic makes up for) this movie was pretty awesome. I love the connection it makes to our current spider man (the mom being Mary and uncle Ben) as well as one of the girls being a spider woman from across the spider verse. The unnamed baby boy? Definitely Peter Parker. I'm a huge marvel fan and geeking out over the connections. Sydney Sweeny's character did bother me at first, but I grew to like it. The ending had me at the edge of my seat. My husband enjoyed it as well. I also had to remind myself while watching that it's set in 2003. Which answers a lot of questions that we initially thought were plot holes. I honestly have been seeing a lot of review bombs for movies that are mainly led by female casting. Before the review bombs I would have given the movie an 8 out 10. But because are literally leaving poor reviews because they don't like the actors I gave a couple extra stars.
Avatar: The Last Airbender: Aang (2024)
A promising start
To start I'm a big fan of the anime and I tried to separate that while I watched.
I liked how it gave back story before the actual story began.
Aang, I'm not sure if Aang talks the way he does to make him sound more child like or what but he needs to enunciate better. At times it was hard to understand him. I do love his personality and the child like gleam he gets in his eyes.
Costumes: to me the costumes are too bright. Almost cartoon like. They stand out against the characters. They're beautiful, just too much at times.
Also, the rating is PG but in the first episode they were burning people alive so I definitely don't think it's PG.
At times the cgi is really good. And at other times it's not so good. Overall I'm exacted to continue watching.
Peter Pan & Wendy (2023)
Better than the reviews
My family and I really enjoyed it. We're 29, 28, 3 and 2. My husband and I thought it was a one to one with the animated movie just from Wendy's point of view. It was missing the scene with the "Indians" although we both found that to be for the better since the live action portrayed Tiger Lilly in a much more respectful way. The ending added a big, family friendly fight scene. I do think the reviews are right in the sense that Pan is not as arrogant or jovial but I think it's done purposefully to not distract from the fact that Wendy is the main character. Which leads me to what I think most people's issues are with this movie.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023)
Probably better than the 1st
I loved it. From start to finish and the music. It's art really. It had really cool twists that I did not see coming (and I'm usually really good at calling those). It also has some great cameos and Easter eggs in it that I was excited to see. It does say ass quite a bit. Probably at least 3 or 4 times but that's it. We took our school so it was hard to hear it over the kids. Meaning the cuss words are well placed. As a mom, the speech that Mile's mom gave had me tearing up. I also think it's something that my three year old would enjoy. So it's definitely family friendly (unless you're super strict about cuss words.)
Quantum Leap (2022)
Loved it
Didn't see the first episode, started it at episode 3. I really liked it. I only saw a couple of the episodes of the original so I didn't really have anything to compare it too, which is probably for the best. I love that diverse cast. The stories are interesting and have just enough sentiment in it to not be over the top with emotion. Yeah, the scenes in the "command center" looks a bit corny and 70s ish but I didn't mind it. Maybe a Easter egg to the original? I don't have many complaints other than I wish I would have seen it from the beginning. Really hope more episodes come out. I was ten characters short for this review.
Blue's Clues & You! (2019)
My kids love it.
We love Josh both my kids can't look away (9months and 2.5 years). Josh uses American Sign Language and Tagalog frequently which is great for culture emersion. The songs are pretty good and the content is always wholesome and educational. I think the episodes are fair as far as culture representation (very correct episode on Hanukah in addition to an episode about Christmas. Note I say culture and not religious because they did not bring in religion, but the holiday and it's activities). There's disability representation in its latest episode with a deaf cohost. Josh is a very considerate host, always asking if he can help instead of just helping.
Baby Shark's Big Show! (2020)
Ask a child
My son will be three in March. He loves everything about this show. It's what he wants to watch. I love how every episode has two different themes. Usually one is social emotional learning (bullies, impulse control, friendship) and the other has a more practical lesson (usually science related). I'm a teacher and I love it. It also opens up a chance to have a lot of good conversations with my kid (why baby shark is being treated differently because he's a shark and such). I mean it's a show for children and a lot of people are rating it in whether they like it. I'm rating this on how my kid likes it and it actually teaches him something while staying entertained.
