Orion and the Dark (2024)
Meh...
Started out soooo good. And then it took a turn. All the cute fun quirky stuff disappeared and it became a heavy, more serious movie. That really didn't seem like much of a kid movie annymore. And it absolutely doesn't hold the attention of kids.
My almost five year old looked at me and said, This is boring."
And it really was. As a mom with a kid who is scared of pretty much everything, I had hoped this would be a bit more relatable.
If you watch the trailers, you get the fun vibe. Even my 16 year old agreed to watch it with us once he saw the trailer. But the movie as a whole doesn't have the teased appeal.
For us, this movie just misses its mark completely.
Wolf Pack (2023)
As my teenager says, MEH
Full confession: I'm an adult and I like this show. The writing definitely needs some improvement, even for a teen drama, and it needs to progress a little faster than it is. They are really drawing out the first season storyline almost to a painful point.
And the CGI has been pretty cringe at times.
But there is so much potential in the concept and I'm hoping the writers and actors find their groove with it. While the concept of the show isn't anything new or earth shattering, it is a new-ish spin on an old storyline.
And I'm over the bull-headed teens. Two of them are almost impossible to deal with and most definitely on my nerves (but then I've met real life teens like that too). Bet they won't get a redeeming character arc until a cliffhanger season finale though... 😒
F9 (2021)
Absurd
I've been watching this series since the original was in theaters. But this one was absolutely absurd even for an action movie.the plot, the action, NONE of it was even remotely believable and that's saying something for this franchise. And for all these things to happen and they all come out unscathed is unrealistic. I don't want to say too much because I don't want to spoil anything, but the level of ridiculousness of this one was simply out of this world. 😏
Fear Street: 1994 (2021)
Had high hopes
I was beyond excited when I saw this on Netflix. The first 5 minutes in the mall started great. Then it felt like a scream knockoff. They do not portray the 90's accurately at all. I agree with a. Previous reviewer who said it was modern trying to be 90's and didn't truly have a 90's vibe. Language, situations, how they handled things...not 90's at all. (I was a teen in the 90's so first hand experience here). This didn't feel like the Feat Street Books I read growing up and this adaptation seemed really far off base. (I still have the original saga-betrayal, secret, burning on my shelf). This movie just misses the mark on everything.
