Not bad but not great either
17 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I feel like there are a lot of 10 ratings because the movie stars Do Kyung-soo. I love him too (swing kids was amazing) but he can't fix this movie. The CGI and special effects are really good, the music as well. However there's very little build up before the first tragedy so it doesn't really impact you emotionally. There's also no part in the movie when something is actually successfully and calm. It's just disaster after disaster after disaster. It becomes extremely numbing. The acting on the Korean side was good, besides that one guy who's plays the minister of science (I think). He's so over the top, falling on the ground, crying and screaming every time something happens. The Americans in this movie were AWFUL. I don't understand this. It always happens in K-Drama's too. Are these people real actors? Everything they say sounds extremely awkward. So I guess if you like space and action movies (or do Kyung-soo ) watch this...It's not bad but it's not great either.

Tragic
11 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Hard to describe how bad this was... The plot description and the cover seemed interesting so that's why I chose to watch it.

The acting is horrendous! The actor playing the part of Shirley is the worst out of all of them. I hope he chooses a different career path soon... The plot was also complete nonsense.

Feels like it was written by a group of children.

It's all over the place and felt like they couldn't agree on an ending so they just put everyone's suggestions in.

At one point someone is taking photographs with an analog camera, in the dark, with no flash.

Just to give an example of the level of stupidity.

Don't watch this...for real...it's SO SO bad.

Chaotic Mess...
23 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Watching this was a struggle... The plot was all over the place, just a bunch of scenes from different time lines bundled together.

I didn't care about any of the characters and the one I did care about, Laurie, was hardly in the movie.

Also if you haven't seen the previous movie (I did but it was ages ago) you don't understand half of what's happening. Should've called "Halloween scenes: Michael goes places" because that's all that happens. Michael goes to a house, Michael stands in the street, Michael goes to the forest,... The whole movie is so extremely dull and unnecessary.

Makes me sad because I looked forward to this.

You did not see this coming?
9 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I keep reading reviews that say "omg I never expected this ending!! :0 "... What the hell are these people talking about? It's called malignant and it was obvious in the first 15 minutes that it was a "twin" situation.

Makes me question the insights of the average viewer... It was extremely predictable.

I'm giving it a 2 because the whole walking backwards stuff gave me the creeps but other than that .. I keep giving James Wan chances because he made the first Saw movie but most of the things he does now are just ugh... :(

DC finally nailed it!! About damn time!!!
8 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I watched this movie with no real expectations.

I've seen almost all DC Universe movies and sometimes I feel like a masochist because of it... Only 'Wonder Woman' and "Birds of Prey' were worth the watch everything else was just cringe and disappointing.

But this movie just nailed it!!!!!

I laughed non-stop the entire first half (Weasel!!! The "Is this thing a dog?" scene still makes me chuckle) and genuinely felt emotional when Cleo was talking about her father.

I wasn't bored for a second!!

Costume design and visual effects were also AMAZING.

The scene where Harley is in a shoot-out with the flowers spurting out instead of blood. It's like a little glimpse of how she sees the situation and the world.... AWESOME.

The music made sense in this one as well. I still cringe when thinking about "Without Me" by Eminem being used as the music for the character introductions in the first movie... I can go on and on but there's really no point.

WATCH THIS. It was great!

And it's mostly great because the DCEU finally stopped trying to be "serious".

'Harley Quinn the animated series' paved the way and they should keep going in this direction.

LOVED IT!

Serious let down...
8 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I went to see this in 4DX in the movie theatre.

I was excited about it because I really love Blackpink!!!... but this was just a disappointment.. For the first 20min I was still wondering what this movie actually was.

It was all over the place.

It felt like a very long commercial leading up to nothing.

Just snippets of performances that got cut off, then just random footage of the members posing in various rooms looking pretty,... I'd watch that on youtube but a ticket to see this cost me over 20euros... Eventually they did show some full song performances which was nice but the whole thing was very incoherent tbh.

I love all the members but the things they were saying in this movie were just weird.

It felt very rehearsed and just plain strange.

Like "I tend to look forward and try to prepare for things to come" and then right after saying "I live in the moment"... Like wtf are you saying?

I saw the Netflix docu and that was real and great but this just sounded like scripted gibberish...

Also my experience was 4DX because it was only available that way and while the whole thing was happening I felt very pissed off because 4DX was absolutely NOT necessary for this.

Making a seat shake left and right during a dance sequence? What is that?! It had nothing to do with the content! It added nothing and was very distracting.

It was just a way to get more money out of blinks because 4DX tickets cost twice as much.

In my case I was also unfortunately seated next to two teenagers who were singing along (in what I assume they thought was Korean) the entire time, LOUDER than the actual BlackPink. The movie is not to blame for this but it did ruin my experience even more so maybe I'm not totally unbiased.

Watch this at home once available and don't expect too much. That's all I can say.

Looked forward to this for a year and a half... and was sadly disappointed
24 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I really looked forward to this movie for a long time since it's release kept getting stalled by Covid.

I loved the first half, I enjoyed Chris Rock's comedy dialogues and the story was interesting to me.

The "traps" seemed kinda lazy but whatever, I was on board anyway.

Sadly the minute Schenk was "murdered" and the only way he was identified was by his tattoo it was obvious he was behind it.

After that I felt the movie was just full of plot holes.

Like when Zeke says he wants to inform Schenks wife before the press finds out....and then like...doesn't. Because if he would try to do so he would find out Schenk doesn't have a wife.

Or the whole nobody notices their police chief is missing, or basically anything else (like someone hacking security footage or setting up a murder room? ) because ONE cop got a minor knife wound on a street corner...

What I love about the Saw franchise (and yes even the bad ones) was that the ending was a total plot twist.

Sadly this one was so obvious it ruined the whole second half.

They tried to do this cheap imitation of it by doing flashbacks to things Schenk said but it didn't make me go "Ooooooh!!" because it all seemed obvious...

I'm giving it a 5 because I really do like Chris Rock and it was nice to see him act again.

So sad it's cancelled
22 June 2021
I don't get why this show was cancelled. I really loved it. I started watching 'The Goldbergs' after watching 'Schooled' and I just don't get why people think 'Goldbergs' is so much better. Every episode of 'Schooled' had me laughing the entire time... 'Goldbergs' has it's moments but I don't find it all that hilarious. I'm hoping some streaming service picks it up but it's doubtful.

Just nonsense
18 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I was semi-interested when it started. Creepy old dude who turns out be a nazi. That's the only reason I'm giving this a 3 star rating. But the whole movie was just whack. The acting was horrendous, well besides the old dude. He did an okay job. The whole movie is just full of plot-holes and just plain...oddness. Vern has all these people he experimented on and all of them are crazy dog people besides this one girl (or girls I should say)? If Vern had to move because "too many Jewish people had gone missing" I would have to assume those are the people he experimented on...and suddenly they're crazy creatures with no sense of self?... Whatever. The movie was just dumb. The best part for me was when Schill rescues Imani from the operating table and after she punches Vern they hug and just let Vern get away :')

Peninsula (2020)

Mostly an action movie but does keep you invested.
26 August 2020
I absolutely love 'Train to Busan' and because of that knew that I shouldn't expect Peninsula to be equally great. There's a lot of action and it doesn't have the same character development that Train to Busan have but Peninsula does have a lot of characters so I guess that's to be expected . The high speed chases that might appeal to some made me queasy but I know that's just a personal thing. It has action, it has fight scenes and by the end I was like 'oh well it's a good action flick' and then I started crying. Which I did not see coming. So watch it until the end because it pays off.

Not what I expected and that's great!

Warning: Spoilers
I watched this movie thinking it was a typical horror flick. I enjoy those, so there's nothing wrong with that. But this was something else and I am grateful. I actually watched it with someone who did not understand the 'message' of this film and it's really important that you do. Dementia or alzheimer's will but both parties in an uncomfortable and horrible position. The person you love, and have always known, will change and become unrecognizable at times but they are still there. In need of love beyond all that. I feel like the final scenes of this movie portrayed that beautifully. So I loved it.

Didn't love it at first, loving it now!
12 August 2020
I haven't finished the show, I'm at the end of season 4, but I actually love it. I started watching it 7 years ago and was very disappointed because I was expecting 'Psycho' and it wasn't that. I remember turning it off when there was suddenly a weed plantation involved and it just didn't feel right in the memory of Hitchcock. I started watching it again now, with different expectations, and I actually enjoy it. Freddie Highmore, who annoyed me at first, actually has a lot of range as an actor. He went from innocent, to strange, to...psycho and I could see it all in his acting and I'm very impressed. Vera Farmiga is just GORGEOUS. I was mesmerized by her from scene one and she keeps me guessing all the time about her character. Wondering if Norma knows she's manipulative or if she simply has no control and she's just going through life without knowing the consequences of her actions. For me the show really takes off at season 3 but that's a personal opinion but I am loving it.

I really tried..
1 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I really tried to like this movie (I even started watching it again after I turned it off) but it's just all over the place. Pick a horror "genre"! I love asian horror, and it's ghosts but this movie had every single one of them. Creepy child, old lady, nurse, hospital patient, ghost hanging upside down in an elevator, ... It's TOO much. And then suddenly it's "gore". There's legs being chopped off and someone's going to town with a hedge saw. Then it's the exorcist with the bed floating around. It's like they took every single aspect that was remotely scary and tried to put it into one movie. So there's that AND the acting is pretty horrible. I'm giving it 3 stars because the special effects and make-up were good but that's it's only redeeming quality.

Not "bad" but not great either...
18 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I watched the first episode because I wanted to know why the woman in the first scenes did what she did. I finished the whole show but tbh I still don't know. Since everyone only started to off themselves when Jacob 'infected' them, why did she kill herself?

I feel like if I would have seen this as an American or someone who has no insight in Dutch culture I would have asked fewer questions. People don't walk in and out the 'Rijksmuseum" for starters... They don't hold lunches for people neither... And I'm sure the Netherlands have sororities but it's not the cloak wearing kind.

I personally am not a fan of anything spoken in my native language but it didn't bother me that much. So the acting and the dialogue was okay.

The soundtrack was compelling and there was a lot of mystery so I enjoyed that. Visually it was good as well!

But the ending? ... "Er is geen beest?" ("There's no monster?") No but there's this mystery tar pit! We have that! ... Okay, I get it's a metaphor for years and years of cover-up (doofpot) and all the vile it contains... But who was the old woman in the box? Was she pleased or not pleased with what happened? Was this about slavery? Why was Rosa's dad hugging her in the end while she's obviously not herself anymore? ... And on and on...

I would say watch this if you wanna see a supernatural mystery series but don't expect it to make much sense.

Unless someone has some insights for me? If so please comment!
