Dune: Part Two (2024)
Denis Villeneuve and his team continue to push the boundaries of sci-fi cinema.
It's probably been said before by someone else that this adaptation is one Frank Hurbert would have been happy to have watched.
Since I agree with most of the themes of the books including the relevance of ecology to the current global narrative, I played my small role in promoting this movie by buying admission.
Denis Villeneuve and his team continue to push the boundaries of sci-fi cinema. I was especially impressed with the mobius-ish neo-noir stylistic elements which pays homage to the history of sci-fi and the visual novelty of large anti-gravity machinery and the Sardaukar. Hope we get a great conclusion to the cinematic trilogy.
Foundation (2021)
A spectacle to be seen, ideas worth pondering
As a sci-fi/space opera entry its not going to appeal to everyone's palate but personally I think anyone who's generally into fantasy can have a great watch out of this.
The visual effects are at near game of thrones level and the acting is top notch. You can tell it's a project done with genuine care (at least as far as the first 4 episodes go).
Foundation was one of the first English science fiction series I read from cover to cover and the first 4 episodes follow the books narrative as faithfully a tv show can follow without being too booky or being outdated. The real test in my opinion is whether they can keep up the same quality across the season.
I can't remember the last time I was this entertained by a piece of modern made for TV sci-fi. Great start. Let's keep it up. All the best.
Mythic Quest: Raven's Banquet (2020)
Appealed to the engineer in me and reminded me the immerging importance of gaming as an artistic platform
I really enjoyed the software development aspects of the story. I'm not sure if other shows have gone after the gaming psychographic before but it's a smart bet.
At the expense of sounding like a broken record, my biggest reservation with this show is the cussing. I mean I understand the writers have to appeal to the gamers, and I like the occasional cuss, but when you use it all the time it looses its power(sniff sniff).
Loved the season one finale. The characters and the writing has promise. All the best.
Ted Lasso (2020)
Great show, but just too much cussing for my PG-13 spirit to handle
It's positive and got a lot of heart but there's just too much cussing going on and I heard there's some nudity along the line too. So I'm gonna drop it. All the best.
Mission Control: The Unsung Heroes of Apollo (2017)
A heartfelt look at the men and women who made Apollo possible
The movie makes great use of historical footage and insightful interviews to paint a picture of the human side of the Apollo missions. A side that is easy to go overlooked and as far as I know have not been revealed before.
Tough and compitent. Respect.
Behind the Curve (2018)
Mark Sargent's mom is the star of the show.
I guess we should be glad this bunch found each other. Interesting watch for anyone studying the human condition.
P.S. Earth is not flat!
Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) (2014)
A beautiful movie with beautiful acting, cinematography and soul.
A beautiful movie with beautiful acting and cinematography. The long shots blend into each other, when combined with the amazing acting it make it feel like you are watching an actual theater piece.
To me, the movie is about the subjectivity of perception and the price one pays to change that of another. Alejandro addresses the ambiguity that arise as a result of the subjective nature of perception in multiple ways, through the direct narrative where Riggan has to deal with the ambiguity of his own thoughts and desires as well as that stemming from others. Finally, he puts the viewer through the same dilemma. Did Riggan die the first time he jumped off the building? did he blow his nose off and live to see another day? or did he fly away from the hospital like an avenger? I guess the answer depends on who you're asking, therein lies greatest beauty of the movie. 10/10 for me sir.
