Welcome to Wrexham: Giant Killers (2023)
Only the FA cup triggers these emotions!
I love watching high quality, high intensity football. I live in Greece, so our league does not have the greatest quality, so I really enjoy to watch the game, where the sport was born! The English and Welsh teams give their all every game, even when they are not interested in the result, in all leagues. The last team can beat the first in any league, not only Premier League. This is why I consider the Premier league the best league in Europe, even at times when the best teams are the top Italian or Spanish teams.
This team dynamic is magnified tenfold in the FA Cup! Any upset is possible! This gives the greatest chance for a team like Wrexham to upset a much stronger opponent, in theory anyway. And these one-off games can give you that. If the favorite has a bad day, they're out! And Wrexham were so close to upset a practically Premier League team... All this was captured perfectly, along with the emotions of the team's members. Feelings of disappointment, mixed with pride for the effort
PS: Here in Greece, whenever a game has many goals, like the 3-4 we saw in the first game, we call this an "English" score! And we love these games!
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia: The Gang Goes Bowling (2023)
This has everything that made Sunny great
Another great episode of season 16 (I dare say an all time great!) It had everything:
Almost every recurring character made an appearance. And yes, after all these years, the McPoyles are back! Did not have much involvement though, but it was great seeing them and I hope that we do not wait so much to see them again
Artemis, Snail and Frank were their usual selves, with their right amount of disgusting, each one in their own way. Not a surprise they hit it off at the end!
And yes, the boys were so easy to manipulate, especially Mac, as always. The easiest one to be manipulated and get in his mind...
Charlie was easy too, behaving like an adorable child, as always
And Dennis... The punch scene has everything that made me love his character. Everybody are great actors, but Glenn (and Dennis) has a little more and is my favorite. The psycopathic self control was gold.
And the last scene... Typical Sunny style. Everything the gang was working for the entire episode, suddenly loses its interest and they just drop it! Dennis almost got in Dee's head again, and all the struggle of both parties to win until the last moment, suddenly doesn't matter at all!
The Flash: A New World, Part 3: Changes (2023)
Talk, talk, talk, as always
OK, let's say that having Eddie and the negative speed force play a significant role at the end of the series was an interesting idea. But the execution? The below are unacceptable for a series penultimate episode
- The first 1/3 + of the episode, Barry isn't even there! Shouldn't the Flash series focus on the main character for the final episodes?
- Talk, talk, talk... Of course the greatest superpower of the fastest man alive (when was he really?) is talk to the villain or to the antihero, to convince them not to do the wrong thing. "Eddie you can make the right choice" and "Nora, I know you re still in there".
- And of course, on that note, where is the action? Talking about what has happened, what is about to happen, but we had so little action for this penultimate episode. And whatever action we had was not that effective or a real battle
And the cherry on top? The cast from 2023 to 2049 aged 5-10 years at most! Of course this has been done many times. And what was Eddie talking about? Did a 30 year old Eddie propose to a "60 year old" Iris? Or this would have a ripple effect throughout time and he would get a younger version of Iris to start their life together in the past.
The Arrowverse is ending in ruins, because on average. This is not how you write a shortened final season. Let's hope that the series finale is not just OK or even a bad one, but something spectacular, like episodes 9 and 10, so that the series and the arrowverse end on a high note at least.
The Flash: The Good, the Bad and the Lucky (2023)
The show keeps getting worse, as it approaches the end
Oh, God, enough is enough! It's the first time I am trashing this show with a review, but I should have many times. So, what are our main complaints throughout the entire show, or at least during the last seasons? Everything has gotten worse in this episode. And this last short season has been a disaster so far, instead of the show ending on a better note. The ongoing problems are:
1. Is it really the Flash? It never is about Barry's story lately, so why not remove him from the episode altogether? This is a recipe for success, has been done again, so why not midway the last season?
2. Half of the episode is about talking, whining and complaining. Cecile and Mark were unbearable
3. The "fight" scenes? At times, they have been decent enough, especially when Barry is involved, but this time they were attrocious. The slight glimpse of action for 5 of the last 10 minutes does not save it.
4. About Chuck and Allegra, I don't hate them, but don't care about them either. They should have hooked up years ago, and the way they started their relationship was so wrong and awkward (timing, etc). Their scenes together also feel kind of off.
The Winchesters: Hey, That's No Way to Say Goodbye (2023)
Supernatural feels gave me the chills!
What can I say about this episode? Everything comes in place!
Dean's presence is explained. When everyone said he is not from this earth, I thought that he is just dead, from heaven, and has the ability to travel back in time, maybe to fix some inconsistencies in the timeline caused by another supernatural being. But no! This is another timeline!
And this is a timeline where Samuel has hair, where John becomes a hunter very early, where everyone knows about the men of letters, etc. Details that did not add up with our normal Supernatural timeline.
I hope that there is more to the story than this, ie that this is not the last we saw of Dean
And of course, Bobby's and Jack's guest appearances filled me with so much joy... Added to Rowena's from the previous episode, I hope that we will see more familiar faces in the future
And the good thing is that if we are keeping seeing this timeline, everything is possible to unfold. Unless this is the (happy) end for this timeline and next season deals with another timeline! Then the title of the show 'The Winchesters' refers to different versions of them!
Superman & Lois: Lies That Bind (2022)
I have 2 problems with the plot
1. Really Lana? It is Clark's secret. If you do not get the danger everyone who knows is exposed to, you are an idiot, BUT the worst thing is: where is Lois at fault here? She is his wife, she barely knows you, she waited 15 years to tell her children! Why tell you? And it seems that Lois told every detail to Lana, not to warn her of what is coming, which would be reasonable, but to earn her trust again, to be forgiven, and she did nothing wrong! I love Lana, in general, but this behavior is unacceptable. At least, she didn't tell Sarah
2. Two superpowered Kryptonians were unable to stop Ally, even before she siphoned their powers (it was an equal fight), but John Henry could contain her enough and win enough time?? Sometimes, these shows do not show their heroes' full strength, for suspense reasons. The Flash's villains, for instance, should not be able to cause him so much trouble, and in most cases, any trouble at all.
Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty: Pieces of a Man (2022)
So many emotions!
We are seeing the showtime Lakers form, piece by piece (to use part of the episode's title). The chemistry between Kareem and Magic, the Laker girls, the mistrust towards dr Buss in the beginning becoming enthusiasm, little by little.
We are also witnessing in detail, Kareem's backstory, and we are feeling for him, in every step of the way... His struggle wanting his life to actually mean something, to insipre others, his almost indifference for the game in which he was great, his annoyment towards the always happy and enthusiastic young rookie, and in the end, his acceptance that he doesn't have to play god and that he can enjoy himself in the wonderful Basketball organization he is a part of
The emotion that caught me off guard though was the mention of Jelly bean Bryant... And of his baby son Kobe who was in the crowd. I felt so moved, so happy and sad at the same time... I cried like a little girl again for the Black Mamba.... I was not prepared for this
And finally, Jack McKinney's accident, which will set in motion Paul Westhead's career with the Lakers
What a wonderful series and episode... 10/10 hands down.
Superman & Lois: Pilot (2021)
One of the best pilot episodes I have ever seen!
Very promising show. It was like watching a movie. A DC movie, like they were supposed to be. With enough visual effects and cinematography, but without overdoing it, just to overdo it. Very interesting characters:
- Tyler Hoechlin may not be the most impressive looking Superman of all time, but his acting is 100% Superman
- Bitsie Tulloch showcases the strong character we grew up to love in Lois Lane
- Very interesting characters of the boys, with promising storylines, and general Lane
Batwoman: Prior Criminal History (2021)
A minor improvement. Hope for the show to improve much more
So we have a new Batwoman. The reason why Ryan took the role and is now wearing the suit is not satisfactory or convincing enough.
The plot of this episode had some improvements, when Ryan provided an unexpected solution to the problem in hand, in her first big heroic act.
Ruby Rose could not act, let's be honest. Moreover, the writers do not seem creative enough. My only hope is that Javicia Leslie will be able to act better, so that the show improves a little. I do not have high expectations though, because I don't trust the writers
However, I am not a quitter either, and specifically I have never stopped watching a DC tv show. Let's hope I don't start now and I will give this show another chance
This Is Us: Honestly (2020)
This is us is back!
After the mediocre to bad start of the season (for a show like this), at last we have an episode with many elements we loved in previous seasons: Kevin's struggles at all ages, Randall at his best and two great cliffhangers that who knows when they will be handled...
Trailer Park Boys: The Animated Series: Viral Video (2020)
I wish youtube had more of these!
It's one of the rare occasions that Julian learns his lesson, and in a such hilarious way! This is the kind of thing that can only be done in an animated series: Showing a grownup in his underwear getting hard, while clothe-banged by a muscular man, in front of little kids! I couldn't breathe, like poor Randy, but from laughing!
Trailer Park Boys: Piss (2015)
Old school TPB for a change!
After most of the season being so and so, this episode features classic TPB fun elements we have really missed.
- Ricky and Lahey are the entire show as usual. Ricky's schemes, storming outs and F&%$ing of the English language are awesome
- AT LAST Lahey gets wasted and gives his all! Missed you really bad, bud!
- Old references like bottle kids and the trailer park really f#$%ed up with trash and crack really warmed my heart...
- Even Jacob offered us a bit of good acting for a change, in many Cory and Trevorish moments
- J Roc and his son had great chemistry
In the Dark: It's Always Been You (2019)
A little pushed and non-believable aftermath, but great story
After the last episode's shock (best episode of the series), the good part of this episode was the storyline of Dean killing Tyson. I was very interested in seeing his point of view, because everyone rooted for Dean throughout the season. Maybe this was indeed the right thing to do or maybe he killed him by accident. This is what it seemed like when he strangled him. But no! It was an intentional decision, which we should not have made. Chloe's sake does not justify his action.
So, after my sympathy for Dean changed, we should have a closure. He should be punished. I litterally thought that maybe Murphy could snap and kill him. But no, she went back to her old ways, using sex to get what she wants. All good until then. But the final resolution was not believable. Instead of both of them being killed in that accident or even severely injured (Murphy finally snapped and did not give a damn whatever happened), the result was convenient. The blind girl gets out of the accident with scratches and bruises and the villain fights for his life. Fair but not believable...
Supergirl: O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2019)
Alan Harper is a GREAT Lex Luthor!
The best episode of the series, hands down! And the reason is one: LEX!
Who could think that Jon Cryer would be one of the best Lex Luthors ever?
- The schemes... Of course he had everything planned, for years, to the last detail!
- The obsession with Superman. The only being he is extremely emotional about.
- MISS TESSMACHEEERRRR!!!!
Gotham: Legend of the Dark Knight: Ace Chemicals (2019)
Jeremiah is the JOKER!!! 100%!
WOW!!!!
What a performance.... What an evil plan! All Jeremiah did in this episode was 100% JOKER! The plan, the facial expressions, the NEED to gain Bruce's/Batman's attention, to become his archnemesis!
Cameron Monaghan is the best actor of the show, hands down! And he is that, by portraying 2 different characters, with many similarities, but differences as well.
And of course... If this is not the origin of the real JOKER, I don't know what is...
The Walking Dead: What Comes After (2018)
Speechless... Every scene should get a 10! Best episode of the series
I really can't talk... It's not because I am home alone, I wouldn't be able to speak anyway!
I 'll tell you the truth. I have never been a zombie enthusiast, but enjoyed the first seasons. The decline of the previous seasons was obvious and I could not wait for the series to end. Well, it kind of did! And a new series began! This is not only the best episode of the series, but one of the best of all time for any series! And it means a lot by a non-zombie fan.
Every scene was epic. Scene after scene, emotional flashback after flashback, the sense that was building up was that Rick is a fighter and will fight it till the inevitable end. In every occasion he could have died. He sacrificed the bridge and himself. Oh, what a heroic end... But no! He survived and was rescued! This was what Rick deserved! Even if he had blown himself up, I would say the same though!
About other scenes? What an EPIC dialogue between Maggie and Negan! Negan... Man, can this guy act... And at the end? Judith transformed from a cute little kid to a BADASS!!!
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia: Time's Up for the Gang (2018)
GOLDEN GOD!!!
As I was worrying that ther might be a bad season for sunny, there you have one of the best episodes of the series!
Caustic about sexual harassment, and Dennis...
You have to worship this character's depth... Manipulative, strategic, god knows what he may have done in his life and NEVER got caught...
There simply cannot be sunny without its Golden God!
13 Reasons Why: Bye (2018)
Why are you butthurt???
I don't get why some viewers are butthurt! (pun intended). I just watched it, knowing the bad critics beforehand. So, I assumed that the plot was bad, emotionless, simple etc.
And what do I find out? That some viewers were offended by Tyler's graphic scene! It was harsh, no doubt, and I was worried he was going to die, because the second half of the season made everyone feel for him. He has been bullied more than anyone in the series. I really wouldn't mind if he killed those guys and wasn't even caught! This would result in some justice for the first time in the series. Bryce deserves to die as well.
However, that's not how life works! The entire series describes the real world, where those in power screw over everyone else. The more unethical and powerful you are the less punishment you get. This is outraging, but it is the reality. And most series don't show that, they prefer happy endings.
So, congratulations to the writers for showing that! The only problem I had with this season was its first half, which was slow and had lack of direction. But in the second half, while it was not the same with the first season, it had you on edge.
10/10 for the final 2 episodes
