Sleep Eater (2016)
Sleepeater homage to campy horror B films
If you have grown up in the 1960s and 70s watching those campy horror B movies, this will not disappoint. The writer and director, Shane Grant, pieces a crafty humorous tale about a hapless man "Quinn Rogers," played by Bill Cassinelli (Scary Tales, 2001; Dirty Cop No Donut, 1999; and Screaming for Sanity: Truth or Dare 3, 1998) who, unbeknownst to him, has been contaminated by infected blood from a homeless man Quinn refused to share his sandwich. Ahh, Karma Sucks! A voracious disease seems to afflict Rogers when he is asleep. He does not know what is happening to him when he wakes up from his sleep with blood on himself. A dream sequence should be noted as a highlight of the film that will satisfy you blood gore lovers. Although the sequence seems a bit long, you really have to applaud Grant for his clever use of food! Excellent "homegrown" special effects are all Grant. I found this movie laugh-out-loud funny and satisfyingly horrific at the same time. Kudos to Grant for sharing his off-beat and gore talent to the State of Maine where he resides. Fear not gore lovers, Grant will surely bring you a Sleep Eater II and hopefully many more films to come.
