Doctor Who: Blink (2007)
Superb!
So in Series 2 they tried a "non doctor centric" episode. While this idea was intriguing and gave a different dynamic to the series, the writing, in particular the disappointing "absorbaloff", wasn't quite up to scratch (don't get me wrong it was still a great episode!). However, this time round, they appear to have honed their skills and come up with one of the best episodes yet, certainly one of the highlights of this series.
The format of this episode gave us a break from prosthetics, animal heads and spaceships and produced a extremely clever and frightening episode. It was superbly acted by Carey Mulligan (Sparrow) and if she were to return in future it would be great, she fit into the Doctors universe with perfect ease. I look forward to other "non doctor centric" episodes in the future. I also look forward to more episodes written by Steven Moffat, easily one of the best writers the show has.
King Kong (2005)
Very Good Re-make.
OK, so the first 50 mins is a little bit slow, but once it gets going this film is pretty damn good. The Scenes in the Jungle with the over-sized animals grip from start to finish, as do those where Kong is Rampaging through New York.
But thats not why i like this film. I love the characterisation of the leads. Jack Blacks, 'stop at nothing for fame' Carl Denham is superb, even down to the fact that he will risk the lives of Ann and Jack to Capture Kong.
Above all though, the relationship between Kong and Ann and how it builds throughout is excellent. Some of the best and most poignant scenes of the whole film are between the two, particularly on the icy lake in New York and on the Empire State Building.
Its obvious that Jackson has put a hell of a lot of effort into making one of his favourite films of all time.
Go and See this Film, pay the money, Jackson deserves it!
